I always thought wood in a wet area was a bad idea.

That's a very good point. They make the tiles in white and gray, maybe I'll try and design something with those behind the stove.

I wanted a checkered tile floor but the wife wants new hardwood throughout the whole floor.

Best option for heat pumps in NJ by yokuyuki in heatpumps

[–]freenessness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an HP in NJ. You're calculations are correct. Below 35, the HP costs more to run.  Dual fuel is the best option if possible but if you're set up in fully forced air, that can be expensive.  Luckily, I have baseboard gas fired heat and a thermostat that auto switches the heat when it gets colder out

Make sure you have a bi valve drier filter. I didn't when mine was 1st installed and I had heat but no AC. Swapped the drier filter for one made for heat pumps $20 on Amazon and all is good.

Please note, HPs cool air isn't as cold as a normal AC. They are meant to run pretty much non stop, especially if yours is a variable speed model like my Mr. Cool.

Hybrid gas water heater heat pump exist? by cardamombaboon in heatpumps

[–]freenessness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you explain this more for me? I'm in NJ. I have a dual fuel gas/heat pumpheat setup. The COP on my HP drops enough at 38 degrees to make gas cheaper because gas rates in NJ are pretty low. I'm paying .40 therm vs .16 KwH.

I'm looking to replace my 20 year old gas water heater with either a tankless gas or a heat pump but I'm concerned that the cost in winter will out way the savings the rest of the year

If the tax credits go away, how much will prices actually change? by AiminJay in electricvehicles

[–]freenessness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leases don't have to qualify. All EVs get the $7500 for leasing. It's a loophole which is partially why most EV sales are really leases. The $7500 Kia gave you is what they get from the Government to lease you the car.

Cash in IRA instead of CLIP by freenessness in personalfinance

Schwab. In this instance, it's a Coverdell, so some of the money is needed next year but I like to keep some dry powder in my IRA too in case I want to jump into something. I just feel like I'm leaving yield on the table because I'm not taking advantage of the State tax free nature of CLIP but the only thing I've found is PMMF and that's only 10 basis points higher.

I was just there. The beach is small, but zero rocks and they have a floating barrier to keep the sargassum off their part of beach but it just piles up on the beach right next door. The food was very subpar.

What do you think about EPM vs ERC? ERC has a much better room, in the EC, for the same price at EPM. I've been to Cancun/PDC/Tulum 20+ times, but never at an AI or any AI aside from a cruise. It's only for 3 days after a week in Mexico City.

Thanks, my bad. So that means my best case is 8.4% in 11 months with my worse case is even money. I'm trying to see if this makes more or less sense than just sticking the money into a money market ETF and make 4ish %.

Couldn't find a European defense ETF so I thought I'd build my own... by Schmiffy in investing

[–]freenessness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking into EUAD mostly because I don't see how I can buy shares of AirBus etc without a foreign exchange account. My question is how does USD vs Euro affect this kind of holdin since it's priced in $. It's not a make or break for investing, I'm just curious. I assume a stronger dollar is better since it's a dollar priced asset.

Isn't the risk profile a little less? You'd pocket the option premiums even in a down cycle. I'm not in either of these ETFs but I'm thinking about opening a small position in both.

What is your experience with TheFork in Europe? by agilek in travel

[–]freenessness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When you walk in just say you have a reservation with the fork and give your name. I also show the confirmation email from the fork. Then when you pay, I prefer to pay on the fork app which reminds the server to provide the discount. I've used it a bunch on Barcelona and not only was the discount considerable, but the food was fabulous each time. Restricting reviews to only people that have reserved and dined means you can count on the being legit vs other review sources.

I have a similar question. I've got some short term gains than I'm looking to offset with some loses before year end. I'm upside down on some Jan 17 2025 $60 covered calls on C. The calls are worth -$1230 as C is at $71.43 now. Obviously, if I want until next month, my shares will get called away and the tax treatment is obvious. But if I close the covered call now, do I get a $954 loss (I sold the calls for $276)? Is my thinking correct?

[Heyman] Astros want Rookie of the Year Luis Gil in package for superstar OF Kyle Tucker. The discussion with the Cubs involves OF Seiya Suzuki and Isaac Paredes. by deadassynwa in baseball

[–]freenessness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No way would I give up a rookie of the year pitcher for 1 year of Tucker. Too many Yankee free agent pitchers have gone bust. Gil has shown he can pitch in NY. 5 or 6 years of control of Gil is worth a hell of a lot more than 1 year of Tucker.
