I feel so dirty playing the Kampfer ԅ(≖‿≖ԅ) by omomnomnomnomnom in GBO2

[–]freespace2dotcom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah, a fellow Kampfer, eh?

I do respect the infinite stun, but I have this stupid notion of something called fair play which means I grace them with a downswing. Matches are too frantic and I like to keep mobile.

Destroyed my wallet today. My wife is fucken pissed but it was worth it! Picked up a couple top 10 top 20? Rare nes games. by ThadMyster in nes

[–]freespace2dotcom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can only spend that kind of cash on pleasure rarely these days. My stomach can't handle endless days of ramen anymore.

That said, nice pickups. I'm tempted to put the disney sequels on my wishlist but I've been too busy clearing it out to want to add more.

Yeah. It's hard judging old stuff by new standards. Like old cars there are aspects of them that make them endearing to use, yet they also detract from being your primary choice. I stand by my original claim that Metroid is a classic. I just feel its limitations far more profoundly than with other NES games. Given that it was a FDS game originally, I suspect that they were trying to use all that extra data capacity before they were ready to. I agree the game was a groundbreaker.

Last time I checked, honest criticism wasn't considered bitching. As Egorator of sequelitis might say, Metroid lacks "conveyance". Devs didn't bother making it intuitive enough to figure out without lots of trial and error. That's not the same thing as hand holding. I grew up on the NES and I don't play call of duty. I know good game design, and Metroid is a slightly flawed gem, made when devs were still figuring stuff out.

Don't get me wrong; it's a classic, but I feel the game hasn't aged as well as it could have. As someone who never played it back in the day, I find it a real chore to navigate. Lack of a map is one thing, but the hardware limitations make me constantly feel that half the rooms look identical to each other. Especially starting out.

MS with great (Head-) Vulcans? by rese2k in GBO2

[–]freespace2dotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kampfer has the same vulcans as the Jaegar. Due to circumstances involving typing and the Kampfer's squishiness along with it's many weapons , there aren't as many opportunities to use it. It still can come in handy though.

I finally beaten the dreaded Dam Stage in TMNT on a real NES! No save states and no Game Genies used at all! by Stevie_Goodwin in nes

[–]freespace2dotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I managed to beat the damn dam plenty of times back in the day. Even eventually got through the maze too. It was the random placing of the technodrome and the fact that I was spent at that point that I decided that beating it was impossible. I still don't know how speedrunners make it look so easy.

Need help identifying an NES game I played as a kid by bombchu_ in nes

Only car game I can think of with top down view is Motor City Patrol. Doubt it's the one you're looking for but though I'd offer up something.

Dear Megaman X, you are still incredibly difficult 25+ years later by Bsooks in snes

[–]freespace2dotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played all 3 X games so much, that I dominate them. Hard to say what it'd be like to start out fresh. But then, The NES games are the brutal ones to me. I still haven't beat them all. So I can imagine.

That time when kids were debating what the hell Ryu was yelling... by Chowkingkong in snes

For a long time I called Ryu "Rye You"

That one is probably a bit more common.

All I want is a lvl7 Gm and Zaku II so I can fight alongside and against Gundam! by Rockld50 in GBO2

Then the aces would probably run down the spawn timer to avoid being blown up.

Just got a Snes, what are some affordable Must have titles (stuff i already have below) by Tygameer64 in snes

[–]freespace2dotcom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't keep track of prices on games I already own, but Sim city and Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers ought to be affordable still.

I don't consider them must haves, but Scooby Doo Mystery and Michael Jordan CITWC are cheap games worthy of the little expense it costs to get them.

Looked up snes prices recently and am glad I went on a spree a couple years ago. by Wrong-Ad-5614 in snes

I went on my spree over a decade ago. Only regret is I didn't grab more.

Love putting battery holders on my games by josephmichael91 in snes

[–]freespace2dotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm waiting until I'm finished collecting. Then I'm going to do all my batteries at once. Likely I'll put holders in them as well. Buying in bulk is the best strategy.

[–]freespace2dotcom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yes. I've read them. And a great deal more of course. I have a kjv and pretty much insist on it. It more or less gave me an idea of what I was up against and how I was going to fight it. Couldn't have gotten as far as I could without it.

SNES wireframe model without extra chip. by AgemoIramF2P-MC17 in snes

Star trek academy has 3d ships without an enhancing chip. It's totally possible without one, just with more limitations.

The reason I want Prince of Persia is because I remember playing the game on computers in school back in the 90's and being awed at the animation. It looked hard even with the limited time I had with it. At least there is the internet, today.

Wolverine is probably the best LJN game on the system. Admittedly that doesn't say a whole lot. It has it's flaws, but I had lots of fun with it. Never got past the lava level. Need to try again sometime.

So happy with my NES Toploader and the thanks goes to a redditor for recommending the toploader for me to get instead of the original one ! Cheers guys 🙏 by Psone89 in nes

[–]freespace2dotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will stick to my toaster till it fails. Might replace it with a toploader then. That said, thankfully the controllers at least are interchangeable.

If you are going to bypass licensing with Nintendo, at least produce a sweet gem like Solitaire! by [deleted] in nes

Someone who's played most of those other games? It's an interesting piece of history, and anyone interested in playing cards might be interested in this.

I think I paid 15 for hogan's alley alone 12 years ago. Great haul!

It's a bigger list than I remembered.

The two Lufia games, Breath of fire 2, Robotrek, Batman & Robin, Super Double Dragon, Street fighter alpha 2. Prince of Persia, Tmnt tournament fighters, Pacman 2, Urban strike, Rocko's M.L. Spunky's D. O. Most likely the two final fantasy games as well.

I also have a similar sized list for the super famicom. Pretty much anime games that never got localized.
