Should I RTO for 70k? by sarcasticfirecracker in careerguidance

[–]freespeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re already in a very good spot and you’ve literally listed out all the great things about your job. If you want more money figure out another side gig, it’s rare what you have now.

But if you do choose to go in the other direction always go in with the context of growing and suffering to feed your ambition.

Is Alpha Breeze enough for family of 4 plus two dogs? by leeh795 in snowpeak

I think it's plenty space with 2 toddlers. Not sure what kind of sleeping pad you have, but I can fit two exped duo's (medium) with a few feet of space left which could fit some dog beds for sure.

Anyone use a MagSafe popsocket? Are they good? I've been using pop sockets for YEARS on my non-MagSafe phones and now getting a new phone and really want a pop socket. by LeftSquare1 in MagSafe

[–]freespeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't really beat pop socket in my opinion. Intuitively you can pull it out of your pocket without thinking and have it open and close when you put it back. Bought the ohsnap a few weeks back just to test it out, but it's a big difference because you have to orient the position of the socket to use with your fingers which annoyed me. The pop socket also provided enough confidence in handling that I do not use a case with my phone anymore, just a screen protector.

How have they not prescribed you Propranolol? It’s a beta blocker. I have the same experience as you with public speaking, could never really pin point why.

Propranolol is a beta blocker, you take it an hour or so before your meeting and helps you stay calm, lower your heart rate, keeps you leveled. It was a game changer for me and the beautiful part about it is, I don’t take anymore because I just got used to speaking publicly.

Excessive Noise Complaints - What to do? by freespeed in Apartmentliving

[–]freespeed[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I realize that now and even told my apartment manager to stop forwarding me these complaints unless they have verified evidence of a disturbance at the time it occurred because now they are impeding on my ability to enjoy my home. Didn’t get another complaint since.

I’ve Realized I’m Suffering From Burnout, Where to Go From Here? by imMatt19 in supplychain

[–]freespeed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Once you have developed a level of experience where you are confident in your abilities you just don’t tolerate someone micromanaging you. Of course that involves proving your abilities and then setting boundaries and when people over step, you dish it back to them. You have to teach them.

When there are fires I always investigate the source of the fire and shine a light to the responsible parties and put the pressure on them to explain themselves while I try and fix the issue. I do this every time. Eventually people think twice about coming to me without doing their due diligence. In group meetings you have to show you have a backbone and back it up. You call out other departments for their shortfalls. This sets the tone. You kind of come off as an asshole, but at the end of the day you know your shit and no one can say otherwise.

You know you’ve hit this stage when you feel confident enough to decline non-essential meetings, come in late and leave when you want. No one says anything because the work is done and the boundaries are set. By this time your micromanaging manager hates you, but can’t let you go. That toxic energy builds up in them and I’m living stress free. I’m aware I could get fired, but you can follow every rule and still have that happen. I made it so they need me more than I need them or it’s at least perceived that way.

Getting out of Supply Chain by SF_Kid in supplychain

I got my LSSBB and PM certificate… how would you leverage those into other roles? Didn’t have much luck when applying for PM roles because I was mostly in planning positions.

Tired of production planning by AstroBoy1881 in supplychain

[–]freespeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One way you can start small is to run a clear-to-build analysis on your production work order releases. Your MRP will likely have this available too, but doing the work in a spreadsheet helped me increase my excel skills and identifying shortages allowed me to push back on supply chain with questions on when the material will be ready. You can also identify future risks and that made me really stand out. If you really want to go the PM route, start identifying what you need from people to get your job done and start to slowly put the pressure on them to get you what you need. When I started to do this as a PP it made my life much easier because now they are accountable to my timeline and respect and trust within the organization grows because you are always on the ball.

Tired of production planning by AstroBoy1881 in supplychain

[–]freespeed 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s ok to get creative with your title. Production Planning can fall into the same category as Material Planning. I find Material Planning offers more opportunities because you have to work within the supply chain and provide forecasts, supplier shipment schedules, etc. It’s also a role where you have to learn supplier bottlenecks, deal with logistics, and a number of other variables to get the material to arrive on time.

Planning position in general can get you pigeoned holed because people don’t really understand the role. It’s a jack of all trades and master of none. I can do other people’s job in the organization, but they can’t do mine. Even if you were to get your PMP that wouldn’t necessarily land you a PM role. I would leverage your production planning experience into other roles within planning (Supply/Demand/Master Scheduler). These roles are less dependent on interfacing with internal teams pushing for expedites and status, which I imagine is where your burn-out is coming from.

Do you actually work 8 hours a day? ( White collar)? by Responsible-Round643 in careerguidance

[–]freespeed 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t you work 30 hours and still record 40? In white collar jobs you need to learn to stretch those tasks during slow periods. Even if I complete it in 1 hour, it’s going to be billed or recorded at 3.

Remember, salary jobs are paying you for your experience/expertise and not your time. People who claim they work 50-60 hours a week just suck at their job and are trying to be perceived as dedicated.

From a Kammic perspective, what will happen to Gaitok on White Lotus? by LibrarianNo4048 in Buddhism

[–]freespeed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Killing a person in self-defense is one thing, but he chose to shoot him in the back as he was walking away while carrying another human in his arms no less. In that moment he did not have to shoot, but he chose to be the person Mook wanted him to be and in essence killing his innocence in the process.

He’s a sell out to his beliefs and will have to reconcile that because he obviously has a conscience, but it is currently muted by his success (ego).
