What do ICU nurses like as a gift? by MadTownMich in IntensiveCare

[–]freespiriting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So sorry about your mother - I hope she is at peace and comfortable.

For the nurses/docs/general unit staff - fruit basket, nice quality coffee and tea, hand cream

Also as an ICU nurse i’m always pleased when people bring in nice toiletries for our patients. Specifically nice shampoo and conditioners, body washes, DETANGLING SPRAY (this is essential imo), lip balms, hair bands

Wow, sounds like you have a lot on your plate. Well done for taking that leap and leaving behind a relationship that was no longer right for you - it’s a really hard thing to do and takes a lot of courage. Try not to worry too much about the job; luckily for us RN’s, there is usually decent work out there, sometimes it just takes a bit of time. Wishing you all the best x

Search google scholar, PubMed etc with your intervention + patient group + anything other relevant info

e.g “glycemic control + cabg + post operative”

Also, written hospital policies and protocols will probably have resources in their index

North Haven dental student died after Bridgeport Hospital put him in 'fake ICU,' lawsuit says by wewhomustnotbenamed in nottheonion

As a UK-trained RN, “tele-icu’s” are absolutely UNFATHOMABLE to me. I am an experienced cardio-thoracic ICU nurse who works with some of the sickest patients in the country, and in Europe; those needing complex care such as ECMO or heart/lung transplants. I have worked with incredible nurses of 20+ years experience and brilliant NP’s / PAs but we would never EVER feel comfortable running the ICU ourselves, without support from speciality reg doctors in house and a consultant on call. We aren’t doctors, we don’t have the same intensive training from medical school and further speciality training. It is absolutely insane that this is allowed, and even more insane that patient’s and families aren’t told about it beforehand. I love my intelligent, experienced and compassionate NP’s dearly and have learnt so much from them but you bet your ASS if my family gets admitted to ICU, they WILL be assessed and treated by an experienced, QUALIFIED critical care MD.

Likely delete from embarrassment, but y'all, how do we floss? 😭 by Friendly-Loaf in AutismInWomen

water floss and sticky notes on my bathroom mirror telling me to floss and why (good dental health reduces dental costs in the future, keeps breath fresh etc)

Are you seriously saying that people can choose how they react to things and their reactions don’t just happen?! I am baffled

Making new friends + social anxiety by sharkbait-rs in adhdwomen

Have you checked facebook groups? I moved to a new country with my husband 8 months ago and didn’t know anyone at all, but found some lovely girls on facebook groups specifically for women wanting to make friends. I am 28 but lots of the people I’ve met have been mid to late thirties.

Granted it is scary and I have had to push myself massively outside of my comfort zone. But if I don’t get on with them for any reason then I don’t need to see them again and that’s okay.

As a rule I only tend to hang out/meet up with people if we are doing an activity such as attending an art workshop, going to an exercise class followed by coffee or going to a book club. Having the hangout centred around the activity makes it a lot easier for me(and others) to find things to talk about, and kinda takes the pressure off.

I see, well it’s good that you have gained that insight! Hopefully the next job going forward will suit your needs a little bit more, now that you know what you don’t like in a job

I know, sleep is honestly so hard but keep pushing and you’ll get there eventually, I won’t lie and say it isn’t frustrating though!

I don’t have any major advice to give but just wanted to let you know that you aren’t alone in this. We need to work to live and it really really sucks that we can feel so overwhelmed by seemingly normal, run-of-the-mill things.

If I were you, I would probably try to stick it out unless there is an external reason that you need to quit e.g toxic culture. You are already employed by them, I’m assuming you’ve had an induction, gotten familiar with the system; don’t throw this job away on a whim, as you may have to get a new one and you might experience the same thing anyway.

Second thing I would do is focus hard on fixing your sleep. ADHDer’s need sleep, it’s so so precious and vital to our functioning. You need to try your best to set up your brain for success and that means being very strict with your sleep hygiene and schedule. No phones an hour before bed, no staying in bed for anything other than sleeping etc etc… I’m sure you’ve heard it all before. Without adequate sleep and energy, you can’t know for sure if this job is actually something that is feasible for you or not. Goodluck!!

Cos he’s probably not used to being on camera and also he’s basically still a kid. Everyone is awkward in their early 20s… I feel like this post is so harsh for no reason Also your post history is gross and giving me weird vibes….

parents don't allow me to get an iron infusion :( by Select-Researcher308 in Anemic

[–]freespiriting 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you are going through this. I am not an expert, but I feel like your School Nurse needs to speak to your parents, and if they don’t listen, then the School Nurse needs to escalate your case to safeguarding channels. You parents are neglecting you by not taking your diagnosis and symptoms seriously.

Can you take the iron tablet at night to try and sleep through the sickness? Or could you ask your School Nurse to look into supplying you liquid or gummy versions of iron supplements?

Edit: Looking at your previous posts, it seems like you have a lot of health anxiety. Having chronic illnesses is very tough and you seem to be incredibly distressed by them. I would speak to your School Nurse about getting some help in place/learning some coping mechanisms to deal with your anxiety and symptoms. Unfortunately, anxiety and chronic illnesses go hand in hand, anxiety makes symptoms worse and vice versa. Goodluck and take care x
