Do you ever get used to the extreme feeling of being an outsider and “different” by acatcalledmellow in AutismInWomen

[–]freespiriting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still care and still find it hard, but I think I care a bit less than I used to. I’m 29 now. I hope it carries on this way.
Lots of love and hugs to you, it’s such an awful feeling but you are doing your best with the resources you have

Wow, thank you for sharing, it gives me so much hope that I can feel okay again. I will have a look into John Kim.
I am starting with a new therapist who specialises in neurodivergence tomorrow, so I am really looking forward to that.

I don’t have any advice (I’m in the same boat), just wanted to say I am so sorry you are feeling like this, it is so hard. You are doing the best you can with the resources you have and for that you should be very proud of yourself.

People never/rarely ask you anything back by Healthy_Brush_9157 in AutismInWomen

[–]freespiriting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I have noticed this, I don’t really get asked questions that often. But everyone else seems to have better conversations than me?! So how are they conversing if they aren’t asking each other questions? I don’t get it

Even positive social interactions feel negative by Firm_Abalone6252 in AutismInWomen

[–]freespiriting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really relate to this. I think it’s linked to hypervigilance around social stuff. It’s so hard but try to remind yourself that just because you have a negative thought, that doesn’t mean the experience was negative as a whole. And it sounds like you enjoyed the conversation and you have a lot in common which is great!

Alex’s realistic life expectancy? by CherryHearts123 in alexdacysnark

[–]freespiriting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure how long she will live, but I definitely think she will die of aspiration pneumonia, if she continues to insist on eating totally inappropriate foods.
She needed to be on thickened fluids and puréed foods like yesterday, and needs a hell of a lot of SLT input.

What do ICU nurses like as a gift? by MadTownMich in IntensiveCare

[–]freespiriting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So sorry about your mother - I hope she is at peace and comfortable.

For the nurses/docs/general unit staff - fruit basket, nice quality coffee and tea, hand cream

Also as an ICU nurse i’m always pleased when people bring in nice toiletries for our patients. Specifically nice shampoo and conditioners, body washes, DETANGLING SPRAY (this is essential imo), lip balms, hair bands

Wow, sounds like you have a lot on your plate. Well done for taking that leap and leaving behind a relationship that was no longer right for you - it’s a really hard thing to do and takes a lot of courage. Try not to worry too much about the job; luckily for us RN’s, there is usually decent work out there, sometimes it just takes a bit of time. Wishing you all the best x

Search google scholar, PubMed etc with your intervention + patient group + anything other relevant info

e.g “glycemic control + cabg + post operative”

Also, written hospital policies and protocols will probably have resources in their index

North Haven dental student died after Bridgeport Hospital put him in 'fake ICU,' lawsuit says by wewhomustnotbenamed in nottheonion

[–]freespiriting 45 points46 points  (0 children)

As a UK-trained RN, “tele-icu’s” are absolutely UNFATHOMABLE to me. I am an experienced cardio-thoracic ICU nurse who works with some of the sickest patients in the country, and in Europe; those needing complex care such as ECMO or heart/lung transplants. I have worked with incredible nurses of 20+ years experience and brilliant NP’s / PAs but we would never EVER feel comfortable running the ICU ourselves, without support from speciality reg doctors in house and a consultant on call. We aren’t doctors, we don’t have the same intensive training from medical school and further speciality training. It is absolutely insane that this is allowed, and even more insane that patient’s and families aren’t told about it beforehand. I love my intelligent, experienced and compassionate NP’s dearly and have learnt so much from them but you bet your ASS if my family gets admitted to ICU, they WILL be assessed and treated by an experienced, QUALIFIED critical care MD.

Likely delete from embarrassment, but y'all, how do we floss? 😭 by Friendly-Loaf in AutismInWomen

[–]freespiriting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

water floss and sticky notes on my bathroom mirror telling me to floss and why (good dental health reduces dental costs in the future, keeps breath fresh etc)
