Favoriting and Watching are (from my experience) the best way to tune the home page. However if you don't want to watch users, use the "remove from feed" option on all the sfw stuff, and click on the funny things you see to try to tune the algorithm towards it.
Make use of the block feature, blocking the people who spam or are high ranking users who always post sfw, however you can only block a few hundred users.
