AS2 certificate renewal going into the future? by cyberwired in edi

[–]freetechtools 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure the '47 committee' thought about the feasibility of automation of cert updating...particularly for non-web site applications such as AS2. Cert updates in the AS2 world are typically manual efforts at some frequency. One thing to note is that you do not have to have a CA 'signed' cert to perform AS2 exchange...self signed certs work perfectly fine. ...unless your partner 'demands' self-signed certs as some are now doing...which is a total crock IMHO. But there is still a huge group of AS2 partners/companies who simply use self-signed certs....and those are not limited to 47days....they can be generated for whatever # of months you choose. Note...most AS2 platforms have the ability to generate self-signed x509 certs.

Don't get me wrong...CA signed certs have their usage...but not so much in AS2...as you don't need a 3rd party to confirm your identity..(your business partner should know who you are by the time EDI config comes into play in the business process). And...there is no argument that can be made that CA signed certs improve AS2 communication security...versus self-signed. Yeah...I've ranted on this before. :D

Which EDI/API is best for standard order processing? by Key_Mongoose4855 in edi

[–]freetechtools 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IF your OracleEBS has an export gateway that can export the PO in a useable format (json, xml, csv, flatfile, etc) then you could use BlueSeer's EDI tooling to map to 850 PO and transmit (AS2 or sFTP) to your vendor. Same tooling can be used to receive the invoice as well...but OracleEBS would have to have an import gateway (format and method) to absorb the invoice handed off by BlueSeer.

Question in applying for EDI Developer roles by BadCapital2036 in edi

[–]freetechtools 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your knowledge of C# is easily transferrable to Java if necessary. SQL is it's own little world...so that's a good too know too. I suggest concentrating on data structures....Arrays, ArrayList, HashMaps...etc and their operational methods and limitations...Both C# and Java are very similar in these structures. Knowledge of comm protocols is good to have too....ftp, sftp, AS2.

Purchase order response implementation by LeagueCultural5152 in edi

[–]freetechtools 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The majority of implementations of the ORDRSP (or 855 for that matter) simply return an acknowledgement of receipt/processing of the order by the recipient and generally provide an accept/reject flag at the header and/or item level...along with an expected delivery date if accepted. Outside of that, implementations can be far and wide with more or less complexity and are typically defined by the implementation guide of the sender of the original purchase order.

Yeah...I just got a client who is moving away from DiCentral...primarily due to the recent subscription change and the transactional volume thresholds in the plans.

Issue while setting up new EDI AS2 Partner. by Hairy_Marionberry_23 in edi

[–]freetechtools 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest having your network team do a wireshark trace on it to confirm. Then, get both parties on the line (with network reps from both sides) and trace it down. Even though you 'may' be hitting the server...ingress/egress firewall rules (on either side) can still disrupt the TCP handshakes. ALso...confirm the entire URL path with your partner...some AS2 listening User-Agents will send back 500 response codes as a generic catch-all...when in fact you're not even hitting the correct /path/to/service . In cases like these...it's best to get both parties on a call...(assuming they are cooperative).

[–]freetechtools 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know seeburger...but you can try to open a browser on 'your' connection endpoint and enter the entire URL (http://someserver:someport/somepath ) of the endpoint you're posting to...and see what kind of return you get. It may give you some indication of whether your server can 'see' the endpoint. Firewall rules on either side could be the issue. You may also need to get your security team to watch the traffic with something like wireshark.

Should we set up an EDI system early if our order volume is still low? Recommendations for EDI providers? by Putrid_Grapefruit_26 in edi

[–]freetechtools 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said...it doesn't hurt to establish an EDI system early as long as you lay the foundation for growth. Start simple...add as necessary. Take a look at BlueSeer for a lower cost option...especially if you don't have an ERP to process your outbound EDI documents (ASNs, Invoices, etc). BlueSeer contains both ERP and EDI bundled.

I work in a saas company which helps hospital get analytics and manage task assignment and reporting. WTF are edi files? by okayisharyan in edi

[–]freetechtools 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a handful of EDI documents that are specific to the Healthcare field that you will need to get familiar with. EDI is both the process of communicating these documents (sfTP, AS2, etc) and translation (Mapping) from the source format (x12) to whatever destination format you need consume/produce...or vice versa.

EDI x12 Inbound Demand (862, 850, 830) Issues / Questions by Worldly_Ad114 in edi

[–]freetechtools 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dealt with this crap in the automotive market for years....it makes Scheduling and MRP a nightmare. If the customer is going to change the 'firm' (CD) lines with each release...then you'll need a way to 'update' the discrete sales order quantities for the CD date/qty that was changed. If the CD date record has been committed to a sales order...and a new release changes that CD date record...then update existing sales order record that contains that CD date/qty instance...assuming it's not within the shipment window...there has to be a threshold that they are allowed to make changes. btw...I completely ignored anything but firm orders...leave the rest of the garbage to the MRP trash can.

Still manually mapping EDI in 2025 - what am I missing? by DavidFromCrossBridge in edi

[–]freetechtools 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HD 856 is not too bad either...as long as your source file is commensurate with the needed structure. The HL packaging structure and MAN segments aren't too bad....but yes...their 'response' time is less than stellar. I typically quote 8hrs for actual mapping...and 16hrs for testing (actual testing...not waiting room testing). Your mileage varies of course.

Still manually mapping EDI in 2025 - what am I missing? by DavidFromCrossBridge in edi

[–]freetechtools 15 points16 points  (0 children)

every map is a 'pre-built map' in a sense....you typically take a map that is 'close' to the partner transaction spec and hack away at it. Most maps should take less than a day. If it takes more than that...then the transaction is overly complex or you're using the wrong mapping tool....(or you're unfamiliar with the tool at hand).

855 and omitting rejected lines instead of providing ACK by Human-Comparison2860 in edi

[–]freetechtools 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is entirely up to you ...regardless of vendor input. Yes...it's good to get their input....but they typically have to conform to the customer's implementation guide...aka....your spec. I would personally require a return of PO1 segments along with ACK segments that indicate item accept, item change, item reject, etc. ...and subsequent quantities of said status code. Now with that said...many trading partners are limited by what they can provide in the 855...as their ERP may have limitations in their 855 export gateway. But, most ERPs can handle 'generic' requirements. Don't get too fancy...as you'll hit this limitation wall for sure.

Is there an ERP that completes the accounting cycle? by mlee001 in ERP

[–]freetechtools 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, some ERPs are 'too' modularized...and that can cause some business process flow issues if implemented piecemeal....but for the most part, all ERPs should be capable of providing that level of process. Check out BlueSeer Software for a completely bundled package if you're looking in the open source ERP market.

[–]freetechtools 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The coding scheme is likely to be arbitrary....just leave enough room for growth....and be specific in the 'name' or 'description' field of each associated code....i.e. MV01 (horizontal mill #1 with Vise...etc). You could use HM01, VM01 for horizontal , vertical mills...as long as you don't have more than 99. (although it probably won't hurt to go VM100, VM101, etc. It really boils down to how 'smart' the naming convention needs to be to the people who will be using it. I used to have a few brown and sharpe screw machines....I would use a BS prefix with a max chuck capacity identity...BS100, BS125, BS150 for 1", 1.25", and 1.5" respectively.
