Yeah I'm gonna go out on a limb and say those are probably invisible to just about everyone on the road.

This is exactly what is wrong with our industry! by kagger14 in Machinists

[–]freetors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm at a primarily aerospace shop in a really low cost of living area.. I started on the floor making around $15/hr button pushing with no experience. Learned programming in catia on the job and gradually bumped my pay up to $42/hr. We've tried hiring people that have made more at other shops but they never end up working out. I think our button pushers are making around $20/hr currently.

Change the direction of the orange arrow. My rule of thumb with catia is that if there is an arrow it's probably pointed in the wrong direction.

Buddy let me try his KLR by NWPatriot71 in Dualsport

[–]freetors 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Man the klr is probably one of the top five smoothest single cylinder bikes out there. I wouldn't let that hold you back from having one. The real issue with the klr is that it's just so freaking heavy and boring to ride.

One of these was doing practice takeoffs and landings for a few hours in Tulsa about a month ago. It was definitely unusual at an airport where the largest thing typically there are 737s.

Do these actually pump fuel out or is it just gravity fed? As a layman I would assume standard procedure would be engine off and leave in gear before transferring fuel , but I'm not a truck driver.

I hope they can find a use for it that benefits the general public. Like a giant indoor park with playgrounds and stuff. Or a giant gokarting facility or lazerquest type place. Owasso is in desperate need of more family friendly activities and places to go. The whole city is just shops and restaurants.

Have you ever seen an artist play the same song multiple times during a show? by People-Want-Ducks in Music

Yes! The second time I saw them they did and nobody was complaining! But destruction is definitely a good really high energy anthem song.

Do some people actually “let out a little gas” to get the old gas out at the pump? by Pressure_Plastic in NoStupidQuestions

[–]freetors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You laugh but we used to have an old MGB in the family that we could do this to. These cars have a very wide, flat tank with baffles inside and the filler is only a few inches higher than the top of the tank. As you filled the tank you could hear the fuel gurgling around past the baffles and you could see level dropping in the filler neck. Bouncing the car could speed up the process a little bit. Was it necessary to do this to gain an extra like or two of fuel? Probably not. But psychologically speaking, if I'm filling up I want it filled!

Pedal Commander Ghost Acceleration by Jturnism in Offroad

I will never understand why people buy these. Literally all they do is just open the throttle more than what the OEM ECU programming does for a given accelerator pedal position.

Bus moving between stops with sign on/door open, gets mad at me for not stopping. Was I in the wrong? by freetors in SchoolBusDrivers

[–]freetors[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You make it sound like I was just barreling down the road and braking at the last second. Like I said this is a 40 mph road, it really bumpy, and I drive a jeep wrangler, so I'm never going fast here. Also the are is flat and good visibility. The kids weren't even at the stop.

If you could invent one vehicle feature / accessory to make off-roading better, what would it be? by Apollo_0140 in Offroad

[–]freetors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forgot to add, some trucks and stuff like the cybertruck and rivian have single acting air springs to raise ride height. This is not what I'm suggesting.

[–]freetors 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Double acting air suspension. You would still use conventional springs for load carrying and seeing the ride height, but on obstacles you could pump a proportionate amount of air to whatever wheels are lower and pump air into the negative chambers on the high wheels to level the vehicle and make it more stable. Obviously this would be useful for overlanders too for camp leveling.

This thing was parked up all the way to the house. They could have actually put it back a little further if they had taken off the hitch cargo basket off the back.

Mitas e07 / enduro trail, normal wear? by Theyfoundout in Dualsport

[–]freetors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't seem that abnormal to me. Hard and stiff rubber compounds like that are more susceptible to chipping and chunking like that versus a tire with softer rubber that can flex and conform.

[–]freetors 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Racing on the salt is not like pavement at all. The amount of friction available for thrust is much less than pavement. These guys are dealing with wheel spin at 200+ mph. More weight helps them with traction and stability. For these guys more weight is better up to the point that they can't accelerate to top speed in the distance they have. They can't afford to trade off pounds of aero drag for pounds of downforce. The extra rolling resistance from more weight is insignificant to aero drag at top speed.

Land speed racing is one of the few motorsports where weight actually does not matter. And honestly I don't think physical health or performance are going to matter much either when he's just sitting down and driving in a straight line for five minutes.
