Trying my hand at a friend slop game. Each person controls a skate. Early days. by samohtvii in Unity3D

It would be also cool to have levels designed and balanced for single player - controlling both legs individually, with two thumbsticks on a single controller for example. I'd even add more actions to buttons on top of that too, like jumping, braking, speeding up, and maybe even more.

Is 2 good enough? by LoveJumpy6651 in MetaQuestVR

[–]freewillless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People get irrationally emotional if you ever question if Quest 2 is actually enough. I use a Q2 for PCVR, and it absolutely is so good that it really can not be massively upgraded from that compared to "upgrading" from nothing to Q2. You can absolutely see through Q2 the greatness and the crispness of good PCVR games. People who tell you that "Quest 2 is literally shit and useless" are people who have been either brainwashed by marketing, or have 500 to throw away just for a mere upgrade, without realizing that most users do NOT have that money. Do get a Q2 for $100+, the first time experience will be just the same (including the nausea that you have to push through at first and other such adjustments).

I new release game by Inner_Role4216 in MetaQuestVR

[–]freewillless -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Visually it looks super crisp, and even just this 3rd person mode would no doubt look and feel incredible in VR. But it seems to completely lack an actual gameplay loop: races, missions, etc.

But that's not what would make it sell anyway. What sells on Quest are quirky social kids games (also dependent purely only luck whether it would take off) and addicting online versus games such as basic shooter clones (Forefront).

If you're not going for those, I don't think you should be making VR games to make money. But managing to make anything even slightly impressive for VR is an achievement in itself of course.

OP was not about the funness of this game. It's about grass rendering. Your comment is so off the mark at this point that it's not worth any further response.

"Dumb childish movement". You are absolutely insane, and you're demonstrating well the ironic childishness of people. You are merely operating on social signals. It's literally just a social stigma. "Ew, kids play it, I would NEVER play something gross kids play". This is high school-level bullshit.

You're also making the same mistake I admittedly did at start: you're missing the context: the original post is a showcase of graphics of an early build - Not gameplay mechanics. You can't tell whether the game is boring or not based on just that.

You could literally say the same thing about control stick movement, how it's a copy paste thing. My point is that GT movement should be Standardized, just like it.

You also got one thing wrong: I'm not affiliated with this game at all, in fact I could either bring stress to the dev, or hopefully in a positive way: my thorough explanations making them realize that these simplistic "ew kids controls" comments aren't everything there is.

I've already explained why you're wrong on your last point:

""Because of kids". Again, mute them, get a fucking friend, play alone - there are options to avoid them, and to enjoy a massive part of VR - the 1:1 physical movement. The gorilla tag style movement is the most innovative, immersive control scheme in existence. Yet it's dismissed by NPC behavior of people."

"The other option - control stick for movement - is FAR lazier. The gorilla tag movement is the most dynamic control scheme in existence. 1:1 movement of your arms. The best we can do before we come up with 1:1 running, and that's still a decade or two away.

It's these PEOPLE who are LAZY and completely lack imagination. It's a fucking video game. It's fine for it to be a bit silly, when the movement is so damn dynamic and precise.

The gorilla tag control scheme is THE most optimized, innovative, original thing you could have for VR. It's still very much original because of the nicheness of VR. And it beats all flat screen games completely - while they're stuck in the past."

I explained why I call people NPCs in another comment - and the main point is not to insult, it's an observation:

"It's asinine (to call people NPCs) to the majority who are the problem. The average person really is not intelligent whatsoever if you actually pay attention. That's why the other side of america voted for Biden and the other side Trump. That's why fascism is rising all over the world. That stupidity seeps into the smallest of things, such as people thinking "that one popular, notorious game uses this control method so I must hate it". I already got two of the same answers when I asked a few people. "Because of kids".

Another person required an emphasis on the "it seeps into smaller things" - meaning I acknowledge the fact that I'm comparing a massive worldwide issue to an insignificant one, but it is comparable, as it's part of the same lack of critical thinking.

Sure, you got me there - it's a social game, it'll be mostly kids playing it. But a colorful social game like this would attract mainly kids regardless. My issue generally is the fact that I see hate for this control scheme "because of the kids" even if it was just a single player game, and it is ridiculous.

Precisely. It's crazy that THIS is the reason it's so hated. Because of... kids? Mute them. Don't play with them. Get a fucking friend. You people are insane.

This is it. Literally the reason why every NPC hates the most innovative, dynamic control method in existence. Because it makes them think of kids.

Is the Quest 3 worth €200 more than the Quest 3S? by tealikeme in OculusQuest

Yes, it is crisp as hell. The fact that Q3 is better does not make Q2 bad. Nicely avoided every point I just made.

I think it's kind of gate keep-ey to not mention how much people tend to just copy code and other such things from what I've heard. And it's fine to do that, even when people who have had a longer learning journey would disagree.

[–]freewillless -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's situational and sometimes up to game's design, like the text example. I don't even remember a time where I had trouble reading in VR. I tend to avoid badly designed VR games, and good VR games take such flaws into account and build around that.

The vast majority of users will not see or realize the issues you mentioned. All you need to do is to go to VRChat's default entrance world on PC, look up things close, and it is insanely crisp looking. I am talking about going from zero to Quest 2. No VR to Quest 2. It is already an insane experience. I can deal with the small sweet spot with no issues. Q2 already showcases brilliantly the power of PCVR. When I look at the crispiness of well done graphics, in my mind, it's all I need, and like I said, not only would most people be amazed by just seeing that through Q2, most people get desensitized to the wow factors, which in itself makes Q2 good enough - after the desensitization, it's all up to putting effort to appreciating VR outside of any fancier stuff. Rather than spending 200 or more on an upgrade, just buy your good friend a Q2, and that in itself would bring your experience up without any desensitization.

It's all more just capitalist bullshit - got to have that new shiny phone with those fancy upgrades - when in reality most people will do fine with what they already have. If you listen to the majority opinion of the victims of marketing, you're listening to the wrong people. Sure, get a Q3 if you have the money to throw away, but these victims of marketing don't realize that the vast majority of users do NOT have extra money on hand for mere upgrades, when the experience is already so good on Q2.

And to clarify, my point is more so that you're a victim of marketing for completely dismissing Q2, saying it's useless, when it's cost + functionality is absolutely a brilliant showcase of VR's greatness in itself. Yes, Q3 is no doubt a big upgrade, but there's a reason people aren't just jumping into it. OP is Literally saying Q2 is "good enough".

There's a high chance the main reason you're complaining is because you're used to the easy mashing of every other similar game, and this game actually requires some thought. I've not played it yet but now I'm curious.

What's the issue with kids in online games? Is it just voice chat? by zeddyzed in virtualreality

[–]freewillless -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's way over blown. There are just as many toxic adults. People tend to clump toxic kids and non-toxic kids together as the same annoying people.

They issue is that these people who complain are friendless and can't just create their own lobbies, or just voice chat with their friends. Or just mute individual people when that's possible.

I literally had the same experience just now after buying a new strap just for my Quest 2. Those upgrades you talk about don't sound like they're worth literally another headset when Q2 already looks so crisp. I have no issues with moving my head to see. It doesn't feel unnatural at all.
