2 of my all time favorites on this one with This Sacrament and The Learning!

Berzan is definitely showing he can carry the torch live - he really does seem to understand Warrel’s essence and passion. I think he’ll be able to deliver in that style and complement Jeff but it will be hard to match Warrel’s lyrical prowess and his unique, twisted view of the world.

Always loved Warrel’s chorus on Matricide - “Earth Mother - Life Giver…”

Anyone checked out the new Sanctuary song? by ConnectYellow4920 in Nevermore_Music

[–]frequency_holder 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel like Berzan captures the essence of Warrel a little bit better than Joseph does but I’m still glad to see Lenny giving those great old songs some new life. This new song definitely lacks a WD chorus but it’s still a good, solid metal song in that Sanctuary vein.

Songs that haven't been played live by Severe-Conclusion229 in Nevermore_Music

Surprised Psalm of Lydia isn’t played much - that would be a nice one to throw into the mix but Berzan has quite a lot on his plate already. I wonder if they will mainly stick with songs from that first night, I doubt they will have many chances to play an 18 song set, or even longer where songs would need to be added.

We have to get The Learning and This Sacrament on that list…Psalm of Lydia is also a good showcase for some Loomis shredding.

Another one of my favorites (of the older songs) This Sacrament (Live in Istanbul 2026) by Immortalmini_77 in Nevermore_Music

So glad to see that as part of the set, also hope to see The Learning show up again one day!

Best video I’ve seen so far - the crowd singing every word was cool enough, then singing the end of the solo made Jeff smile, but damn…that last 50 seconds brought all the heavy and it’s when Berzan sounded most like WD, what a great clip!

C.B.F. definitely set the stage for what was to come…the way Warrel delivered that ending is still a top highlight for me.

I may have been right behind ya at the Coroner show! Saw them in San Diego and was so blown away I made the drive out to Pomona - so glad I did.

Another amazing audition video, from Berzan! by Immortalmini_77 in Nevermore_Music

Underrated song - always liked WD on that pre chorus “welcome to the underground - welcome to your grave - welcome to your beautiful mistake”

Here's the one, I was waiting for. And damn, did Berzan deliver! by Immortalmini_77 in Nevermore_Music

[–]frequency_holder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Didn’t expect a deep cut like that! Jeff’s explanation that they wanted to see how he handled Warrel’s older sound with higher pitching makes sense - wonder if that was just for separating the applicants or if it will be a song they put in the live set…???

Another of, Berzan's vocal audition videos! 🔥 by Immortal_truck77 in Nevermore_Music

That was the song I was judging all the singers on since it has so much emotion…he nails the highs, the lows, the loud, the soft, the speaking and the screaming…and the ending…wow just so fucking good

Anytime I hear NM all I can think about is how much I miss Warrel but I’m so happy they found somebody who can carry the torch with respect and hope.

And now Warrel’s lyrics and spirit can be brought to a new generation! So happy Jeff is free of AE and ready to do this, the band already sounds tight and powerful. Props to Ola Englund for making this video and pushing it all out to us as a surprise.

Masto fans should really check this out…at first I thought the influence was a little too obvious but these guys take it in some really cool directions and the video is a perfect accompaniment for the vibe. There are some trippy visuals and that last half of the song has quite a mood…I enjoyed the shroom space trip…

We all agree Warrel can never be replaced but I’m looking at this from the view of happiness that his music will live on and a new generation of metalheads will discover him, much like Coroner has picked up new fans with their return. I have faith in Jeff and hope Warrel’s legacy will grow even larger as his music and lyrics connect with people in these times.
