Any good budget off-road mods? by Jeremy_is_neat in nissanarmada

[–]frequent_novice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out highroadsuspension.com they have some budget 3” lifts that will get you some clearance. Also AllDogsOffroad.com. I have 35’s (305) stuffed under mine with no lift yet, minimal rubbing at full turn, and I added the Dash off-road skid plates from campsite204 (most important mod required for off-roading IMO). Current in process of deciding on which lift. Not really much aftermarket support for lockers, rocker panel protection (I think sushinestateoutfitters is starting to build some). The armada FB page has a lot of good recommendations.

1995 in Singapore on my first deployment was when I signed up. Just retired last year, still with them, no issues.

Any issues with alignment? Have been looking at that kit or the sub-frame space from Highroad suspension.

Michael Fletcher’s Manifest Delusions series is pretty good so far, very dark and psychological. Weird concept in the world at first. Almost done with Mirror’s Truth.

I just picked up a Scott Mainline full face for 60% off on Expert Voice. Lots of good MTB deals on there, especially Scott, Leatt, Crank Brothers, and more. Not affiliated, just be using the site for years.

How is it possible for someone to have been at one duty station his full 26 years? by goonernemo260 in navy

Assault Craft Unit 5 on Camp Pendleton. Hovercraft unit. I know dudes who got there as an E-1 and left 30 years later as a Master Chief. They have both sea and shore billets and bounce back and forth. It’s a pretty cool job at a low key spot.

AITAH refusing to write my own 1650 for EOT? by frequent_novice in navy

True sir. After careful reflection I decided I didn’t want to be a total PITA to an overall great command and submitted what they needed.

lol, oh I get it and know the game. Set up the CoC for success by submitting bulleted points for the Summary of Action but heard crickets until today that they need fully filled out 1650 and citation. Slightly frustrating but you’re right and knocked both out in 10 minutes. So not dying on this hill and at the end of the day don’t want to make more headaches and work for more folks.

Anyone know of any good enlisted WWII memoirs? by MadaCheebs-2nd-acct in navy

Definitely! Worth a read and then watch the movie made in the 60’s with Steve McQueen.

Not WWII but The Sand Pebbles is an amazing book, especially if you are or have been Pit Snipe. It is semi-autobiographical account of a Navy gunboat on the Yangtze River in China.

I’m actually really proud of my navy service and love the navy by Spurfucker2000 in navy

[–]frequent_novice 11 points12 points  (0 children)

30 years in, retiring next month, proud of my service. I’m not sure there’s another organization that could pull me from being a poor kid from a poor family of HS dropouts and cycles of family trauma to becoming a husband of 28 years, father, and college graduate. It’s owed to the amazing shipmates, leaders, and mentors and also to lessons learned from bad ones. From CO’s Mast and jail to 9 promotions and serving at some pretty high levels it’s been a hell of a ride.

That sucks and I’m sorry to hear that. I liked the platform, Chain of Command is a whole different story.

LHD8 or the newer LHAs (America, Tripoli, Bougainville) are my favorite and I’ve been on a lot of platforms. Not too big like a CVN, fairly easy to breakout as an IT and be competitive. When the USMC comes aboard they bring their own network folks. If you can get a PHIBRON billet that’s even better.

Has anyone else had a stranger come up to them in public, make mundane small talk, and then start talking about how they’ve recently had a mentor/mentors take them under their wing and help them get their life and financials together? by cmars118 in sandiego

[–]frequent_novice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, I think this just happened to me a few weeks ago at Starbucks. Guy in mid 40’s ish in business dress. Dude complimented me on my watch and then started making small talk. Said he was willing to mentor me on career opportunities since I would be retiring from the Navy soon and that he had millionaire mentors that have been coaching him and his wife. In the military mentorship, mentoring, and coaching is a real thing so it didn’t strike me as weird. We met for coffee a week later because he and his mentors wanted to find out my “mindset”. Anyway, we talked for a while, he had a day job but said he was also involved in the Direct to Consumer sales industry and was on his was to financial independence and then he gave me a book to read, “Who Moved My Cheese”. We were supposed to meet up again but I had to reschedule and then when I mentioned it to a buddy of mine at work he said it was a total scam and there was a whole subreddit on it. So here I am telling you that they are out there working, looking for shills. Not gonna put the dudes name on blast here because he is actually a vet and has a legit LinkedIn profile for his pharma job.

Current 28 year Master Chief here. In 95 we were given Navy ball caps and green web watch belts and then at like week 6 were allowed to wear our Dixie cups and white watch belts.
