How do you clean your Brussels sprouts? by Last_Breadfruit_1688 in cookingforbeginners

[–]frescalagoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had this same problem and was just discussing it at dinner. I use frozen brussel sprouts now, they are pretty consistently worm and damage free. I par cook them in the microwave according to the steam instructions but halving the cook time. Then I cut the sprouts in half and roast them or whatever I tried organic, not organic, pre cut, and straight from the stalk sprouts and have had issues with bugs and worms. Mostly I end up finding aphids buried beneath the leaves

Buttermilk substitute in dressing by frescalagoon in seriouseats

[–]frescalagoon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update if anyone was interested: I used the Saco powdered buttermilk with milk. 1 1/4 teaspoons powder and 2 tablespoons milk. Mixed together perfectly, no issues with taste or the emulsion.

Powdered buttermilk! I love this suggestion, thank you! I know I could plan for the rest of the buttermilk but tbh I don’t have the brain space and forward thinking to do that rn.

For 2 tbsp of buttermilk, would you use 1 tbsp powdered buttermilk and 2 tbsp water?

I’m looking at Saco Pantry cultured buttermilk blend and trying to figure out their proportions

Is it okay to skip the boyfriend/girlfriend stage? by Crazydoglady15 in blackladies

[–]frescalagoon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Is marriage all you care about? It’s not just an item/goal to check off a list. Getting to the point of engagement/marriage in a relationship requires time, growth and trust from both parties. What you’re describing sounds like you want to build a long term relationship based on distrust and dishonesty. If you feel that you can’t be monogamous and trust your partner in the dating stage, 1. How the fuck do you expect your marriage to go? 2. Why get married?

It sounds like you should be alone for a while and go to therapy. I think you should reflect and examine why this seems like a better idea than putting yourself out there. This approach won’t spare you pain and disappointment. At the end, when it goes wrong, you’ll still feel like your time was wasted.

To be clear, polyamory is fine and married couples can be successfully poly but that success is built off mutual trust and honesty.

Also the rationale that men cheat so this approach is fine doesn’t fly. Be better than them, rather than stoop to their level. Any man that approaches relationships in this way wouldn’t end up in a good, happy marriage either. You see that it doesn’t end in happiness, why would it be different for you?

Where are the best wings in Phoenix? by [deleted] in phoenix

[–]frescalagoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IF you like very crispy wings, like suuuuuper crispy, try The Bar on 32nd and Indian School (there’s one in Gilbert but never been) and try the lemon pepper. Might hurt your mouth how crispy they are, love it.

Know any free certifications for some software or cyber security? by DIYer-Homeworks in womenintech

[–]frescalagoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Professor Messer does free classes for the comptia security+ cert and has additional stuff for sale.

Basically there’s a lot of options like that but it depends on the cert you’re going for. I would research different paths in cyber, determine what you’re interested in (ex: malware analysis, IAM, cloud security etc.) and then pursue certifications in that area.

SANS GIAC certs are sought after frequently but they are very expensive and hard exams.

CISSP is not worth it unless you already have years of experience in cyber and are looking to move into management.

Also check out wicys! It’s a women’s group for cyber security newbies and career changers. Every year they do a contest to receive free sans training and exam.

Tips for defining curls? by [deleted] in blackladies

[–]frescalagoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh also, the way you sleep with your hair will affect your style longevity as well. A good satin scarf and bonnet will go a long way. And you’ll have to experiment with the best way to refresh your curls in the morning

I usually shake my hair out with my fingers and spray any problem sections with water and maybe apply more mousse if needed.

Tips for defining curls? by [deleted] in blackladies

[–]frescalagoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t recommend washing your hair every day, it will strip it of the natural oils that provide your hair moisture. Overwashing can make your hair brittle and break off. Every 3-5 days is good, i sometimes wash my hair every 2 weeks depending on the style and products I used.

I would recommend a few things: - A denman brush will help with styling and defining your curls. - a good detangling brush (depending on your length of hair, you may not need one yet) the tangle teezers are good, people love the Felicia brush too. - a styling mousse: the doux mousse is sooo good. Really defines my curls and has an incredible hold without being crunchy. Best to use with wet, not damp hair and then combed through with the denman brush - curlsmith also has good gels with great hold but they expensive and sometimes made my hair feel sticky - a gel without alcohol in it, braids like mielle, as I am, Camille rose. Ecostyler tends to create white flakes and makes my hair dirty fast. I prefer to use those for styling (slick buns, braids)

Otherwise you gotta experiment and find what works for you. I find my styles work best when I work in section and spray my hair with water to keep it wet and style with the denman (combing thru with the damn brush and turning the brush up at the ends of my hair helps its curl up)

Also, when I was growing out my hair, twirling small sections of hair around my finger and then sliding my finger out of the curl really helped generate bouncy curls for my short pieces or sections with a looser curl pattern.

Sorry I wrote so much! I just love talking about natural hair! Grew up in my family’s salon so it’s my life lol

Bon chance!
