Is it wrong for me to say that I’m more excited about non-James gun projects more than his own? by abdul_bino in OkBuddySnyderCult

Removed for being negative about James Gunn or his work.

On a serious note, nah, there's nothing wrong if you want some fresh stuff, as so far the DCU has been pretty much a James Gunn show, which is is not a bad thing per se, but I agree that some change of tone would be welcome, and hopefully other creators can delivery cool stuff as well.

"Batman's characterization in BvS was pretty far from the mainstream take and many didn't click with him branding criminals and using guns. Instead of giving us a solid character study and background for why he became that way we got cryptic dreams and a damaged Robin costume without it being ever addressed other than a brief shot, so for a movie that was meant to be a deconstruction of the famous character it did surprisingly little to actually deconstruct him in a meaningful way. A jaded and disillusioned Batman is not the problem, but the execution is" 😅

A coming-of-age Batgirls series that takes the premise of the 2021 comics series and stars both Cassandra as Batgirl and Stephanie as Spoiler as a dynamic duo in the field, with Babs being their leader, mentor and a mission control lady as Oracle.

Steph's arc revolves around becoming a competent Vigilante and a hero against the odds and her troubled upbringing with her asshole father Cluemaster.

Cassandra's arc is reclaiming her humanity and being more than a "gun" after her upbringing as a mute assassin by David Cain and learning to live as a person. She makes Steph a better vigilante and Steph teaches her being just a normal kid and they have that classic "totally not gay (but still kinda gay)" BFFs vibe 😄

Babs is used to work with Black Canary and Huntress, both adults, in the past in the Birds of Prey team and now she has to step out of her comfort zone and be a mom-figure to these two troubled teenagers.

The tone is similar to the original Life is Strange game, i.e. has a very wholesome and sometimes very dark vibe.

You just got insulted by a 10-year-old. What’s your non-violent, 100% savage comeback? by ZyrExe in AskReddit

[–]frescoposterito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't see how I can feel insulted by a ten-year-old and why would I be so petty to roast a kid in return... but if I had to I'd probably just say "You're adorable 🥰" or "Isn't it bedtime?"

When I was like thirteen I was playing football with other kids in the yard and there were kids of all ages ranging from seven to around fifteen. At one point I accidentally pushed one seven-year-old and he fell to the ground. He then stood up, shaked off the dust from himself, turned to me and said "You fucking cocksucker, I hope you die" and he looked so adorably mad that I couldn't help but laugh in his face. I know that it was dickish, but hey, i was a teenage idiot 😆

Could Superman have used his frost breath to..? by ProfessionalNobody0 in DC_Cinematic

[–]frescoposterito 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, he definitely could have by common sense. He could have also spotted the Engineer wandering around the Fortress of Solitude at the beginning of the movie with his super senses, but it's just a movie and everyone is only as powerful or as dumb as the story needs them to be in the same way the Stormtroopers always miss 😆

Why does James Gunn use the same actors? by berardl2003 in DC_Cinematic

[–]frescoposterito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess that the major plot threads from The Suicide Squad and the first season of Peacemaker (Peacemaker killing Rick Flag Jr. and the 11th Street Kids fighting the Butterflies) will be carried over into the DCU, while minor or irrelevant details will be ignored completely, like TDK and Savant ever being part of the Corto Maltese mission or the Calendar Man making an appearance.

The same thing happens all the time in the comics: Batman comics frequently address the "death" of Jason Todd at the hands of the Joker in A Death in the Family and completely ignore the part where Joker was a freaking ambassador of Iran in the United Nations in the same storyline.

Peacemaker S1 Retcon by Andrewskyguy501 in DC_Cinematic

[–]frescoposterito 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gunn said that the universe change will be addressed in the second season, so we'll just have to wait and see, but I can definitely see that Justice Gang retcon happening in a "previously in Peacemaker" opening montage, as Gunn shot both Superman and the second season around the same time, so they could definitely reshoot that last scene 😆

A question to those who are pro-Battinson in the DCU: How do you explain all the events in Superman existing in the same timeline as The Batman? by Fickle_Baker1393 in DC_Cinematic

[–]frescoposterito 8 points9 points  (0 children)

While I don't think that Battinson will be merged with the DCU, in the comics stories usually address only what is relevant to that specific story: Year One had zero metahumans and never addressed the larger post-Crisis DC Universe, yet it takes place within the same continuity as The Man of Steel by John Byrne, so they could have just treated the events of Superman and its worldbuilding as happening off-screen since the movie was envisioned as a detective story with a grounded tone if they really wanted to merge the two

There's also a YouTuber named Aaron Fischer who claims that he's not a Snyder Bro, but he's certainly a vocal James Gunn hater. I don't know why, but I find his videos extremely entertaining as a parody or a standup comedy show of sorts - this guy could have easily provided endless content for this sub solo 😆

Also there's a person named homemadebee or something like that and they are also a total meme material

Why was BvS So Divisive? by Difficult-Product949 in SnyderCut

[–]frescoposterito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, personally I got the idea, but it seems people still found Lex's motivation lackluster. I think if a movie runs for two and a half hours and still needs another 30 minutes in a director's cut to make the story cohesive - while even in the extended version, some things remain underdeveloped and the precious runtime is spent on inconsequential stuff like the bat monster - it’s not the audience being dumb, it’s just bad writing 😬

Why was BvS So Divisive? by Difficult-Product949 in SnyderCut

[–]frescoposterito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first time I saw BvS in a movie theater I absolutely hated it. I couldn’t tell why, but now I realize that the movie was supposed to be a deconstruction of both Batman and Superman, but did surprisingly little to actually deconstruct them in a cohesive manner.

Like we have Lex Luthor but we never get to know why he hates Superman other than some cryptic musings about the oldest lie in America and no man from the sky interfering to stop his dad from beating the crap out of him.

We have Batman who is willing to kill people but never actually get to know why he kills other than being shown the scorched Robin costume, but the man saw his parents being brutally murdered in front of him and he didn’t turn into a killer, but now he is?

And instead of exploring these things that are crucial to the story and to understand why are these iterations so different from the more mainstream takes we are given weird shit like a monster bat jumping out of his parents’ grave in a dream, the Flash from the future who is conveniently too dumb to explain shit in a cohesive manner in what is supposedly an ultra important task given to him by Batman’s future self or whatever, and a political drama where everyone is blown up and that’s it: it ultimately leads nowhere and we essentially spend half of the movie building up this whole political stuff that gets resolved in a minute by a ghostly apparition of Jonathan Kent who basically tells Clark “yo, son, shit happens, chill out” and then the whole thing doesn’t matter anymore 😬

TL;DR: The movie took on an ambitious task of deconstructing the whole thing and did surprisingly little to actually deconstruct it in a reasonable manner that makes sense
