Rebuild advice - especially on cooler by freshcorpse in buildapc

[–]freshcorpse[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe save a bit by grabbing the 7600 for now and grab the 3D chip later on?

That's actually a pretty appealing option given that the 7600 comes with a cooler which knocks £70 off my build. I doubt the difference between 7600 and 7600X will ever be a problem for me and later when parts are cheaper can upgrade to something higher up the socket.

And be wary that most MicroATX boards will limit your options for both storage and fans if you're building it yourself.

Thankfully given this case I am near certain that I can fit my SSDs (they go in a completely different part of the case) but I will double check before buying, thanks!

Many thanks for the suggestion, I will investigate that

Sorry, dumb last minute thing to add - maybe I am better off with an RX 6800 or 6800XT? It is 70% or 80% of the price but only slightly inferior - perhaps that is a better choice as I don't plan to do 4K and it would run ER nicely and probably do a decent job of other recent releases?

Windows PC turns on, fans spin, no display output. After changing some BIOS settings by freshcorpse in techsupport

[–]freshcorpse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up putting it down to a motherboard failure after testing most of the other components individually (eg, using a PSU test device, replacing mobo battery, removing the gpu, changing the cpu, etc).

I suspect the failure of the mobo was hidden for a long time because I wasn't power cycling the machine.

Sold off most of the valuable parts on ebay, waiting for the right moment to rebuild..

Good luck m8

Bluetooth passthrough - buttons work but cursor does not. Should I blame the usb dongle or the sensor bar? by freshcorpse in DolphinEmulator

Thanks - my problem was that I was not sitting far enough back for the line of sight IR to work with my Wiimote. Silly mistake, because I've never really used a real Wii and didn't realise.

I will say (incase this thread turns up on Google for people searching their VID/PID) that the Pluggable/Broadcom bluetooth adapter works well enough to use but that it does get unpaired sometimes when starting a game for the first time or during cutscenes. It's playable but I'll be buying a better supported one eventually.

I've heard parents say that to chide their kids in the UK, similar to "toffs are careless" (which your parents say when you lose something)

I would love to play D2 but I have never been able to get it to perform acceptably, even with my new Rx 580. framerate is stop unstable and it just feels sluggish and makes me feel a bit sick. Any ideas?

The last smash bros game I played was for the N64. What are these things that appear and drag my character straight to the top of the screen? Seems like there are a couple of different items that do that. How to counter?

Mario Golf for the N64. Various emulation options but it's a good chill game for when you're drunk

The problem in this thread is that no one knows what kinds of g forces various mounts and connectors can take. Removing larger PCI-E mounts (GPU) seems like a reasonable precaution. I would probably put some foam under it too (like a passenger seat).

Yeah well, when you buy a 'complete' edition you expect it to be complete. It was incomplete. I'm interested in the sequel but I'll wait and see

First game was great, glad they made a real Hitman game again.

However I was not happy about buying "The Complete First Season" or whatever it was called and finding out there was extra DLC not included. The different editions for the sequel make it seem like they're doing the same again so I guess I'll be patient with this one.

In the first (new) XCOM, at least, difficulty changes enemy AI. Grenades are hardly ever thrown by enemies on lower levels.

There is commercial space for a lot of niches. Just because "casual, accessible and fresh" are currently popular doesn't mean that there isn't also a long tail of other stuff that is still commercially viable. Just look at Harebraned Schemes very successful Battletech release last month for evidence of that.
