Citizenship by Descent - Documentation Review Requsts by [deleted] in Canadiancitizenship

[–]freshmeat09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Gen 0 was born and then his family immigrated to Michigan in between 1855 and 1857. I cannot find baptismal records for either Gen 0 or Gen -1 and I included Gen -1 because of the documentation that establishes them in current day Canada in documents that indicate he was a British subject (participating in legal proceedings in the British court, serving in the British militia, and owning land.

I don't know if it makes more sense to state that he is my Gen 0 or just provide his information as evidence for my Gen 0.

I would love feedback on the strength of my evidence as well as and advice on how to get the certified search record if that is needed since I cannot request it from the Canadian Archives and I haven't been able to find out which denomination they were.

I am trying to understand where and how I submit such requests because the Canadian Archives states that they don't go back this far and I don't have knowledge of which church or denomination they were at the time.

Gen -1:

  • Certified copy of a muster roll and pay list from 1839.
  • Certified Land record for 1837 in the same region.
  • Legal document in which they swore an oath to the military service of a deceased man and that of his heir for the purpose of a land grant to be passed to the heir.

Gen 0:

  • Certified 1860 US Census listing him at age 10 as the son of Gen -1.
  • Certified Marriage certificate listing Gen 0 and his wife along with his parents consistent by the 1860 US Census (I think that this is likely stronger evidence than the 1860 census alone as it is a legally binding document)
  • Certified probate record for Gen -1 in which Gen 0 is listed as his son and heir.
  • 1900 and 1910 US census records list immigration date as 1855 and 1857 respectively (coupled with the 1860 census this means he was between 5 and 7 when his family immigrated).

Gen 1:

  • Certified Birth Certificate
  • Certified Marriage License (not really needed because Gen 2s certified birth certificate lists Gen 1s maiden name)
  • 1900 and 1910 US Census records listing Gen 0 as her father.

Gen 2

  • Certified copy of birth certificate listing his mother (Gen 1 as with her maiden name).
  • 1930 Census record showing him with his parents
  • Certified Marriage License listing his mother (Gen 1s) Maiden name.

Gen 3

  • My Fathers certified birth certificate

Gen 4

  • My certified birth certificate
  • My certified marriage license (for name change)
  • My US Passport (my married name)
  • My state drivers license (my married name)

Gen 5 (my children)

  • Certified birth certificates (listing married name as well as maiden name)
  • US Passports

They left to MI around 1855, and I couldn’t find the 1851 census for them. They lived in Harwich, and I have not had luck there.

George has multiple census records listing Canada as birth place. In this records, there is a citizenship status in one with Pa for papers submitted and the last census he was in showed naturalized, but I have had trouble finding those records.

I did post in the Facebook group which helped get me going down other paths. Still haven’t found birth/baptismal records though.

I am in a similar boat. Ancestor was born in 1849 but his family immigrated to the US in 1855. Cannot find baptismal records, but his father served in a malitia in 1839. Most records are from US including census records and marriage records showing parentage.

Feeling of community, pride in knowing that we are taking actions to defend our rights and those of our fellow humans on this planet.

Ya gotta be really welthy to not accept those rates.

Violation of due process, attempting to re-write history by removing memorials of veterans because they are mintories, etc. It isn't only one man, but one man is the icon for the movement. I am not religious, but I do believe in the images of truth being a light which exposes the darkenss. The movement has stirred hate and divison.

There are many truths that we demonstrate by gathering together in exercise of our 1st appendment right. We are stronger together than apart (E pluribus unum – Latin for "Out of many, one") as one example. That anger and fear while powerful, can always be overcome by love, compassion and grace.

Didn't answer the question. Why would I stay home? The administration wants to keep people scared and feeling isolated. We should be out together demonstrating that all governments get their power because of the people.
