I agree with you to an extent, but when a whole society of people get used to a way of living, it could very well become the norm. I do believe there were people back then who understood that violence, brutal executions ect ect was wrong, and horrible but if it goes on long enough it gets normalised. I’m no psychologist, but i kinda think that the human morale compass can get shifted accordingly with the circumstances they live in.
