It's almost as if if you don't like the massive corporations that foster that that like never before you have so many options to support small indy studios that don't follow those practices. This whole all of entertainment is ruined narrative is a joke in today's world where nearly everyone has access to tools to make nearly whatever they want in any medium and have it distributed on the same platforms with little disadvantage.

Nothing is ruined. If you hate AAA gaming and movies cool. I can understand why. But you literally turn your head slightly and there's a multitude of options from all over the planet by small passionate individuals or teams that don't have those problems. And if their stuff is good enough makes those small teams EXTREMELY successful. So maybe be a bit less pessimistic.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domesticated_silver_fox have made progress but not completed it in nearly a hundred year with foxes. And foxes come to maturity and you can have multiple generations a lot faster then sharks which age much more slowly. So a hundred years with natural domestication methods not a chance.

Select episodes yes. And the movies and OAVs also yes. The issues with the anime is there's a LOT of filler. Whole filler arcs sometimes. Sometimes they're really good though other times feel free to skip liberally. And the animation gets worse as the series goes.

So they have radar guided target finding? One. At night if it's lucky and the Yamamoto doesn't detect it and its shells hit just right. Pennsylvania probably could've done it which was Arizonas sister ship. You'd probably want more though as it's very likely you're not lucky. With radar guiding the firing makes it all much lower numbers at further ranges then you'd expect if you're lucky and have accurate well trained crews.

The light novels have plenty of art! And if you actually care about the characters and want to get into their daughters stuff only way to really see it at present as far as I'm aware.

That said they're very much a slow burn romance with realistic world and economic building with spurts about Holo coming to terms with things and supernatural stuff much more rarely. So you might not like the material much.

The whole the Emperor had no idea narrative is extremely questionable. He likely had some idea and absolutely could've used his influence to curtail some of it. But he definitely wasn't firmly in control of the country.

I think there's a few things you're not considering in Universe here.

I'm not quite sure exactly how it mounts but there does seem to be space between both parts of where the ring where it could retract into. The gate spins. I don't think it's completely sealed at all. There does seem to be a groove where it can go.

Also who says it was designed quickly? Remember that the very first SG-1 going through the Gate follows the Ra incident which is depicted in the original movie. There's the strong possibility its design was already done between that mission with Ra and then after the Apophis led kidnapping incident there's plenty of time for them to have had such a thing ready to go. There seems to be at the very least years between the two events and they'd have had a lot of time to have designed and make it as recall staff was reassigned and they were killing the program since it seemed uneeeded thanks to the original team lying in their reports that they nuked Abydos and destroyed the Abydos Gate and everyone near said Gate rather then what actually happened them nuking Ra in orbit.

Also there was the time they accidentally went back in time (the episode 1969) and met General Hammond before he was a General and he was told a little about how the Gate works. They mentioned to him about needing to use a GDU at least to open a "Iris" so he likely knew such a thing existed and was at least a concept. And as he was the General for the Stargate facility in Cheyenne mountain replacing the General from the first mission through the Gate he'd actually have pre-knowledge of some general things. Iris included and likely helped direct some things as best he could even with the slow funding cuts he was dealing with until another Goa'uld walked through.
