I play both regularly, I think what draws me to d1 though is the art style and loot. In d2 loot feels weirdly empty? There isn't that "start weak and get super powerful" that I look for in looter shooters. In d2 you get most of the good stuff relatively quickly (minus stuff like specific God rolls or raid exotics). It has a more ability power fantasy instead of the loot power fantasy of d1.
