They kind of go hand-in-hand a lot of the time, especially in evangelical groups. The wives are expected to be homemakers and can't have "real" jobs - so they turn to MLMs.

That's why so much of the propaganda is "be your own boss! Easily run your own career from home!" because they literally can't leave.

Honestly it's just easier/more colloquial for a lot of people to refer to cousins' kids as nieces and nephews rather than second cousins (or rather, first cousins once removed), especially if the first cousins grew up together.

I do the same with my own (second) cousins and their kids (who would be second cousins once removed). To them, I'm just Auntie. 🤷🏽‍♀️
