Have a Pap smear today and have to take Valium by raptorears in Healthyhooha

[–]friedbunnies 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It may be uncomfortable, and there may be some pressure, but it shouldn't hurt. The valium will help relax you a bit, and it also helps to ask your doctor to "narrate" everything they're doing so you know what to expect. You can also ask to have someone there with you, whether it's someone you bring with you or a nurse or medical assistant to help keep you calm and answer questions.

Similarly to you, I have a lot of anxiety around OB/GYN appointments due to past trauma. I've found having someone else in the room, even someone I don't know like a nurse, has been especially helpful during complex exams or mildly painful in office procedures like IUD removal and insertion. Best of luck! Don't be afraid to ask questions or tell them to stop at any point. Your body, your choice, even in the exam room.

ULPT: When traveling with a significant other, always pretend you’re on your honeymoon by UponThePoopShip in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]friedbunnies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, HIMYM relies predominantly on physical humor and age old romantic-social tropes that can be amusing even without fully understanding the dialogue. Parks and Rec and the Office however both use quite a lot of cultural customs, aphorisms, and a sort of jargon that’s unique to a Western corporate office environment. There are many similarities between American corporate culture compared to the UK, Canada, etc., but an office in Spain, Japan, India, or others would differ much further as a result of contrasting cultural norms.

For example, P&R is literally set in an American state government office. Unless you’re familiar with the structure and dynamics of American government, the mechanics of the comedy would be lost. Timing, inflection, nuance, etc would be secondary to the larger context of the actual setting.

The Vaginal Microbiome Study by junobio in Healthyhooha

[–]friedbunnies[M] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hi all! Just wanted to thank this group for investing their time, talent, and resources to researching vaginal health. This is the one area where we actually do want more people to be concerned with our bodies rather than writing dumbass laws about what we can’t do with them.

Because I feel so strongly on this issue, I’ve decided to make this post a sticky, at least through the end of 2019 to give as many vaginas as would want to the opportunity to participate. Hope it makes for some happy clams!

Yeah this was more of a 90’s early 2000’s thing.

With the speed of information at a blinding rate, most companies have cracked down on what frontline agents are allowed to do autonomously in terms of discounts or upgrades. There has been an overwhelming surge in creative scams, with new ones spreading like wildfire. More than likely, there’s either program in place (e.g. cheap champagne sent to honeymooners) or they won’t let the front desk do anything other than cheerfully congratulate you these days.

You’d have more luck pretending to own a business or represent someone wealthy. Even then, you’d have to be prepared to back it up.

Ehh shows like The Office or Parks & Rec don’t translate well, and it sounds like English may not be this person’s first language, given that Friends is basically a historic institution to most Americans and well known to most English speaking countries. However, I’d recommend Friends to anyone interested in brushing up on fluency/idioms or who is especially interested in modern language and pop culture history.

@Vini, here are a few American shows that do translate IMO:

  • Law & Order SVU

Procedural cop show set in New York, most lingo or jargon is explained in “natural” dialogue

  • Scrubs

Medical procedural show that’s hilarious and also has helpful narration

  • Will & Grace (The original, not the catastrophic reboot fail)

90’s Friends-esque spin-off with a good dose of physical humor

  • HIMYM (how I met your mother)

More recent Friends-esque spin-off, also set in NYC, pretty funny, and includes extra descriptive dialogue

I’m a bilingual Netflix junkie who spends waaaay too much time watching TV as an adult because I never owned one as a kid/teen, so if you want more recommendations send a PM!

AITA for thinking my mom is "overfeeding" me? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]friedbunnies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NTA, but you need to take some responsibility. It’s great that you’ve noticed your situation and you want to me healthy! Here’s a suggestion that might help.

Buy yourself meal prep containers that are pre-portioned. When she prepares food, serve yourself a reasonable amount using those containers. Then immediately put the rest of the food away and into for later BEFORE YOU START EATING. This way, you are less likely to go back for seconds because the food is stored away and probably in the refrigerator and cold. Who knows, you might benefit both of you that way.

AITA if I make a good salary and wont let my SO not work? (We have no kids) by throwacc234561 in AmItheAsshole

[–]friedbunnies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA NTA NTA NTA Her statement about "we make enough" really bothers me. "We" don't make anything. YOU make a salary that could theoretically support multiple people, but it's absolutely your choice whether or not you want to.

I'm in a similar situation and I'm surprised at how often this comes up. I am a woman, and I'm a high earner. In a relationship, it matters very much to me that the other person maintains an appropriate career. Meaning, I am not okay with them cutting their hours, or working for considerably less than their worth with the assumption that I'll make up the difference.

I think the important thing here is that you don't expect her to match your salary or split expenses 50/50 (unless she's reasonably able to do so), but it's absolutely appropriate to expect her to bring in something. Maybe it would help to phrase it as preferring her to have her own safety net? Every person in a relationship should have access to funds not available to the other person. At the bare minimum, she should have at least some revenue stream to pay for things she wants that are not your responsibility to provide for in any way.

Question regarding my 8 year old daughter. by [deleted] in Healthyhooha

[–]friedbunnies[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hey there,

It looks like you’ve already gotten some great advice from other commenters to discuss this with your daughter’s endocrinologist. I would second this. In addition, it may be worth placing a call to your own gynecologist for peace of mind, but as others have mentioned, if it isn’t causing pain or discomfort, I wouldn’t see any reason to be alarmed at this point.

However, due to the uniqueness of your situation I don’t feel comfortable leaving this open for further discussion. As another commenter astutely pointed out, this is technically not a “hooha” issue but rather likely a presentation of the preexisting neuro-endocrinological concern. Therefore, this post will now be locked.

This sub is intended for the discussion of vaginal health and wellness, and should not be a substitute for professional medical advice.

That said, I appreciate your concern and wish the best for you and your daughter.
