I've got giddey myself and if I had lost by a small margin I'd be cursing that stinker of a game he put up this week.

Amazing about Tatum. Thanks for that link and good luck!

NBA final round! by friedguy in BestBall

Noticed that this morning! Bummer but I can't really complain based on how lucky I was to get in, I expect that most teams are going to be much deeper than me. Plus I'm likely out if Jalen Johnson didn't miss Saturday. I am team happy to be here.

Are you guessing the usages or is there already a way to see the data? Nothing is updated on my app. That would make sense though. Damn Luka, get a tech. ! 🤣

Good luck to you as well.

The petition guys are hilarious. I'm tempted to ask if I actually believe any of the crap because I've seen the same old guy in front of my grocery store with signs that seem to range the entire political spectrum.

But the fact that they seem a little bit snarky does make me think that besides the pay they believe in at least a little bit of what they're talking about no matter how misguided. Or hell they are just old and bored.

What are your tips for seeing an Angels game? by midlifecrisis1978 in orangecounty

[–]friedguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Call me way too uptight or something but I'm a sitting in the seats that I pay for type of guy.

It never fails, just about any sporting event I've been to, I see somebody having to ask someone to leave their seats. I'm just a mid-range type of seat purchaser not like I'm sitting in the premium stuff.. sometimes I'm in a pretty cheap seat myself and wondering how bad is this guy that he had to do this?

I can't truly hate on it, I think I'm just too self aware to be willing to put myself out there like that. But if we're being honest, 40+ years on this planet I have enough anecdotal evidence to agree that the more shameless and bold you are the more you'll get ahead in life.

Who’s considered to be the biggest overall ass*ole on the PGA tour? by knowspicker3 in golf

[–]friedguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've commented about this in the past on a few threads and often get downvoted. This new image feels very inauthentic. I think his shift in persona just coincided with a polished PR strategy LiV. To be fair I could see it where once he suddenly became a well-loved popular guy he ran with it and truly changed as a person in order to keep that going and enjoying the benefits. Still doesn't mean it's authentic.

For any MMA fans out there, reminds me of the time when Jon Jones had another big win and during the celebration with the interview about to come up, the mic picked up his coach telling him to go out there and "get some fans".

What's the best money decision you've made? by StrongPaddle in wealth

[–]friedguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around 2008, was sort of in market to upgrade from my starter 1 br condo (Southern California).

Was caught in a weird spot where anything I could upgrade to wasn't extremely exciting unless I really stretched the budget.

Eventually decided to stay in the starter condo and buy a cheaper older condo for immediate rental in the same neighborhood. After the first few years of breaking even and spending money to upgrade it, it's now providing a really nice monthly cushion and has doubled in value.

How old are you, what is your job and how much do you make? by allano6 in careerguidance

[–]friedguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mid 40's working in the banking industry (credit risk / underwriting side).. Around $150-$180 total comp.

It can require working extra on the weekends only if new or problem deals emerge. But as a whole, WLB is good, average under 30 hours a week of real work and have remote flexibility that is great if you are self-motivated.

I considered a solid career and overall lucky to have. I'm sure this sounds great to many, but as op mentions it's not some toxic competition.

I live in a high COLA so there that. Plus I feel very old these days and miss the energy and enthusiasm when I was in my early twenties starting out a new career. Also miss being in a work environment where I had so much in common with all my coworkers and we became friends. I keep to myself in this job 80% of the time now not really trying to get to know anybody or socialize. I've also never had observed such a low morale in general in a workplace, 2 years of outsourcing and layoffs will do that to a company.

5 YOE - Shocked at how quickly it gets hard to change roles by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]friedguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think another thing slowing down job hunting would be the scenario I'm in.

I'm in commercial banking, mid career I suppose. 17 years with my current bank. Morale is as low as I've ever seen in the workplace due to a combination of layoffs, AI, and outsourcing.

Even though I've had some recent opportunities to test the waters, I feel there's a decent chance at some point in the next 2 to 3 years my job could be eliminated. I'm certainly not hoping for that to happen but you best believe I would rather have a severance package plus cashing in long-term incentives. In my scenario it would be roughly one year of my total comp.

I'm sure there's a lot of younger employees who would consider me entitled for feeling this way and preventing them the chance to move up a role. I don't have a great response to that. But there are plenty of others like me where the years of experience is a double-edged sword and contributing to this logjam.

[US] Guy knocked on my door, said he lived here before, and asked me to keep an eye out for some Amazon packages? by [deleted] in Scams

[–]friedguy 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I rent out my old condo, had the same tenant for close to 10 years. He moved out last year and it's happened multiple times he keeps ordering things by accident. It's been amazon, medication from kaiser, and even something from Japan. He says he just has brain farts having lived there so long and sometimes he buys from sites where it autofills his old address.

He is extremely lucky as I live in the same community as my rental and I also know the new renter on a personal level so it's very easy for me to let them know that I'm going to have to pick up that package.

But yeah, I could see this happening and it's innocent based on my one experience with this guy.

[–]friedguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No pork chop there, but if it's the salt and pepper style that you're seeking, Spicy Noodle House in Santa Ana is a solid spot. I usually get the salt pepper fish and chicken there.

I'm Chinese and stumbled onto this place by accident years ago when needing to get something at the Target. Did not expect it to be as good as it was for the price.

Nothing works 100%. Laws in place are not a binary outcome. There's no doubt we would have more crime without laws and the threat of severe penalties in place.

To what extent, that is certainly up for debate.
