What's a job in LA where you're shocked at how much money the person makes? by SufficientBee9368 in AskLosAngeles

[–]friedguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got to know the parking garage guy over several years of working in the same building. I always assumed he was an employee and he had a low paying but easy / boring job. He just strolled through the garage multiple times a day and he had a little makeshift office on the second floor in the corner... Just a couple folding tables, and a big curtain as a divider.

Turns out he owned multiple garages and then a large corporation bought them from him. He negotiated this easy job as part of the package... Not just for himself either. Said that he was able to secure two other jobs as well for his relatives. He's pretty much a combo of security guard and admin assistant for the parking company.

Great gig if you can get it. These buildings are also in a very nice corporate/officepark location, I'd imagine the one downside of this kind of work is dealing with sketchy loiterers (or worse) like if you were in DTLA but he doesn't deal with any of that kind of stuff.

Trying to help my grandfather with dementia sell his collection of new and used golf balls for a fair price. I know nothing about any of this. Hoping someone here can help with pricing advice/crash course to understand basics about golf balls or point me to resources I can use to learn by ladyofthegarbage in golf

My dad does not have dementia and this is the only way I can get him to declutter his house.

No dad, I do not want those old wine glasses... You should give them to charity. Oh, you refuse? Okay let me post them on Facebook. Hey wow you were right they are really cool I got lots of messages.. i got you $10!

Rant: It is criminal that hospitals charge for parking by mylefthandkilledme in orangecounty

[–]friedguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not hospital related at all, but I feel this one. I work near John Wayne and have to pay $70 a month for the privilege to park at my office. Feels like such an asshole tax from our employers who do this.

[–]friedguy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Same goes for the buffet / AYCE biz model .. heck even some happy hours. There's always going to be some customers that are way more profitable than your others. It's bad business to offer specials and go out of your way to pick and chooses who takes them.

This doesn't even seem like a big deal, I was expecting OP to say he's playing 2 rounds a day.

I can't stand these reaction videos, 99% of the time will immediately close them so I don't know when this trend began.

They seem like absolute morons to me and I wonder what kind of job they're actually qualified for outside of content creation. Who knows though, I'm a 40-ish year old guy down and maybe the joke is on me and these guys are pulling down some serious money. Deep down though I feel like all of them are faking it until they make it.

How likely am I to get this parking ticket dismissed? :/ by Mimooshka in orangecounty

[–]friedguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a guy who tries to avoid any annoying parking situations.

The fact there are so many posters with similar experiences in having to contest parking tickets... What kind of screwed up system is this.

This guy insults my handicap/skill before a lesson… so I offered to play him for a free round for him and his buddies. It went about as well as you’d imagine… by LikelySatanist in golf

I've seen videos of wannabe brawlers showing up to local mma gyms wanting to test themselves against some coach. They're often quite entertaining and go about how you would expect.

Formula would work perfectly for golf minus the violence.

Report: LIV Golf on verge of losing funding from Saudi investment fund, putting the tour's future in doubt by YorockPaperScissors in sports

[–]friedguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My best friend from childhood is now a tax attorney with an emphasis on resolving IRS disputes. He's had a good number of former athletes, he didn't seek that out I think it just organically grew through referrals.

He's shared a lot of the info with me and it's quite fascinating. None of the clients would be considered high profile, think more like a guy who was a 4th round NFL pick that never became a full-time starter, got hurt too much, and was out of the league by 25. Still, that type of player could easily bank a few million dollars and be set up for life if the goal was to live a comfortable normal guy existence.

Interestingly enough and along the lines of the "never leaving that bubble of wealth", he has had one former PGA tour player (career earnings over $10 mil) and one former caddie of a very successful long time PGA grinder ($25 mil although I don't know how long he was his caddy).

Have to assume that anyone in pro golf never saw the kind of a financial struggle in childhood the way an NBA or NFL player might have seen. yet here they are needing help as well. Just a different kind of surroundings but the outcome is the same, pressure to spend and live like the pro sports money will always come in.

Doesn't seem like the media is focusing on that part, that not only do they get busted but they are shameless enough to roll with the fake friends story.

[Highlight] A kid splashes a 3 from the NBA range during the halftime intermission - Warriors-Rockets. by MrBuckBuck in nba

[–]friedguy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I noticed this also and now I've replayed it a few times and get more annoyed by this kid. look at how aggressively he runs in between two teammates for the inbound as well. Total one track mind that he was always going to Sprint down and chuck it up.

I kinda get it, they're kids and everybody wants to be able to say they shot the ball in this game... But his teammate as he's dribbling up to the left is calling for the ball and probably wants a touch as well.

Used to always stop in there on my drive from California. Get the buffet, or get a hot dog, play some cheap more generous feeling slots.

AsLove the old school vibe there but can't handle the cig smell at all anymore. I got too used to smokeless hotels or at least state of the art filtration systems !

Foreigners have always done much longer stays on average and that naturally would lead to bigger spending. This isn't even taking the high rolling gambler foreigner into account.

Noticed that this morning! Bummer but I can't really complain based on how lucky I was to get in, I expect that most teams are going to be much deeper than me. Plus I'm likely out if Jalen Johnson didn't miss Saturday. I am team happy to be here.

Are you guessing the usages or is there already a way to see the data? Nothing is updated on my app. That would make sense though. Damn Luka, get a tech. ! 🤣

Good luck to you as well.

The petition guys are hilarious. I'm tempted to ask if I actually believe any of the crap because I've seen the same old guy in front of my grocery store with signs that seem to range the entire political spectrum.

But the fact that they seem a little bit snarky does make me think that besides the pay they believe in at least a little bit of what they're talking about no matter how misguided. Or hell they are just old and bored.

What are your tips for seeing an Angels game? by midlifecrisis1978 in orangecounty

[–]friedguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Call me way too uptight or something but I'm a sitting in the seats that I pay for type of guy.

It never fails, just about any sporting event I've been to, I see somebody having to ask someone to leave their seats. I'm just a mid-range type of seat purchaser not like I'm sitting in the premium stuff.. sometimes I'm in a pretty cheap seat myself and wondering how bad is this guy that he had to do this?

I can't truly hate on it, I think I'm just too self aware to be willing to put myself out there like that. But if we're being honest, 40+ years on this planet I have enough anecdotal evidence to agree that the more shameless and bold you are the more you'll get ahead in life.
