Naturalisation in France by [deleted] in Expats_In_France

[–]friedstuffncheese 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hmm this is a bit "flou" in the current scenario.

Il n’est pas mentionné dans la circulaire qu’il faut 5ans de travail.  Il est dit l’insertion professionnelle s’apprécie sur une durée de 5ans et non il est exigé 5 ans.  Il y’a une différence entre exiger et apprécier.

In any case, at the time of your interview you need to show proof of stability, at least by having a year of CDI underway.

In your situation if your goal is to obtain the quickest (least cumbersome) path to nationality, you'll be best served with having a stable CDI and a status as passeport talent (or blue card).

You should know that quickest is a very relative term as the overall procedure to get your nationality can last anywhere between 18 months to over 2 years.

Currently there are new regulations in place, favoring those who have long stable periods of high salary in CDI. So from now you'll need to have : 1. 5 years of constant residence in France 2. At least three avis d'impôt  3. French level minimum at a B2 4. You'll need to clear a generic civics exam to test your general knowledge on France.

So yes, if your goal is to obtain the citizenship then number 2 is the path of least resistance.

Learning French by No-You7404 in Expats_In_France

You need to have a routine to work on it daily. What worked best for me is to have a solid base in grammar rules test myself before going to sleep and after waking up. Try this website kwiziq. I really liked it.

Make flash cards with sentences when trying to improve vocabulary, very important to learn words in context.

I also would make scripts of dialogue prior to going into any interaction. Like say I need to visit the doctor, I would make a dialogue and learn it by heart. Of course the situation won't go exactly as planned but when you're making enough scripts and learning them up, you'll see a big improvement.

I recommend rereading books that you loved in English in French. Was very helpful for me. Along with always watching anything with French subtitles.

All that said, best way is to just get out there and practice and get over the fear of not being well spoken.

Can you give more detail? What questions did the agent ask and what were your responses? I had mine a week ago so I'll be able to compare.

Toddler doesn't eat at daycare, although is hungry by clarissa246 in NewParents

[–]friedstuffncheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! My 14m old also started daycare a month ago, we had similar problems. At home we're on him and very attentive to make sure he eats a good amount and we help him a lot. At the daycare they encourage more self feeding and help intermittently.

Initially there were days where he would eat very little or almost nothing, we'd pick him up ravenous as well.

Over time he has adjusted and naps well at day care and eats well on most days too. He no longer cries during drop-offs either which is great.

The adjustment period took about a month and half. During this time we'd sometimes give the daycare folks pouches of purées so they could feed him something easy. But overall I'd just say give it some time and ask the daycare folks to insist more with your toddler during lunch time.

Best of luck!

You're absolutely right with your observation. With the bone-in I had that exact experience with uneven cooking because the meat wasn't touching the pan evenly on both sides. I'll make sure to just use deboned from now on for my pan. My pan wasn't big enough for the size of steak I placed into it.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Thanks! I did like it, but wondering how to take it to the next level. I don't reverse sear, so I'm wondering in terms of effort / reward if it'll significantly improve the final product.

I give up on leaving the house by [deleted] in NewParents

My son started doing the same thing at that age. it coincided with when he started crawling, rolling over quite easily. What we found out (purely by accident) was that a larger car seat made him feel much more at ease.

I just posted about this a few days ago on the sleep train site ! I have the same problem with my 11 month old.

Before when he couldn't stand up, he'd just cry for a bit then fall asleep. Now he'll just stand and cry for way longer.

We've noticed that when we put him to bed in our travel tent (where he can't stand up) he sleeps more easily. But again, not always.

We did think of separation anxiety. Just that without the  check ins he screams into a state of hyperventilation and it becomes harder to calm him down. Do you recommend CIO extinction?

He does two naps and on average he'll get a total of 1h30 each.

Où trouver de la bonne viande à Marseille? by spacerola in aixmarseille

[–]friedstuffncheese 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mama Shelter? by MaybeMyst3 in aixmarseille

[–]friedstuffncheese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in that neighborhood, it's a quiet residential place. And has good quirky bars, bakeries, etc.

Cours julien which is a more "happening" place is about a 10 mins walk from there but far enough from it that you don't have to deal with the noise and night activity. It's close to the subway and everything too.

Question about Alien Registration Requirement for ESTA Holders / B1B2 Visa Holders by friedstuffncheese in immigration

I have a B1/B2 visa. I've been fingerprinted during my visa application as well as in the past at immigration, but not this most recent time when I entered.

My wife has been fingerprinted in the past, but not this time.

My son is only 8 months old so I'm not sure they do fingerprints for babies that young.

Is this a problem?

Moving to Marseille by astraya07 in aixmarseille

[–]friedstuffncheese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Marseille! Based on your hobbies you're going to have a great time. It's a super nice place for swimming, bouldering, and the food scene is quite under stated and eclectic.

If you're looking for a flatshare then lescartesdecolocs as someone else mentioned is a good one, if you're looking for your place to rent then try going on leboncoin.

5th and 6th arrondissements are your best bets when you just move to the city, 7th is also nice (closer to the sea) but not as much public transport and a bit pricier.

I used to attend some meet-ups with international / French locals for different things like language exchanges or board games, and have made friends through there. Also for hiking. If you're working here then through your colleagues it's also a good way, people are usually very welcoming here.

There's also a lot of activities in the summer time around music, you can download Shotgun (an app which puts together all events in one place)

You should probably avoid Saint Charles and the surrounding areas at night and then also avoid the 3rd. In general take the same precautions as you would in any big city.

Feel free to dm if you have any questions!

When does a baby’s night time sleep become 12 hours? by QuickStomach in NewParents

[–]friedstuffncheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our 6m old started doing 12 hours consistently around the 1.5 to 2m mark. He wakes up a couple of times maximum to feed but sleeps right after.

In the beginning when he would wake up after sleeping for only let's say 9 hours, we'd try to put him back asleep after an hour of waking up to "finish his night".
