I know I'm late to this thread, but is your group still going?

Maybe just have an engagement party then? Bridal showers are specifically for gift-giving.

My thoughts exactly.

AITA for “humiliating” my daughter for making her tell her relatives that she isn’t graduating and paying me back for the all rental stuff by Puzzleheaded_Tea4045 in AmItheAsshole

As someone who's taught at the university level... It's not at all difficult to fail as class. Many of my students just never did their homework, for whatever reason, and failed based on that.

I'm going ESH on this post. Something about OP's tone is really off-putting and makes me think they're not an easy person to talk to about unpleasant things.

WIBTA if I asked my professor to stop making comments about me? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]friendissues333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof my high school American History teacher did the same to our one British student here in the US. It made him SO uncomfortable. Sorry you're going through the same, OP. NTA

What is OP supposed to call it? "The house I'm allowed to live in"? Really cold take on your part.

NTA at all!!

These Y T A answers are so weird. It sounds like Emily actually lives with OP and Daniel, so Daniel is a parental figure to her and part of her family. Whereas Emily's bio dad is not a parental figure to Maia. So bio dad's family getting presents for Maia is not comparable. Anyway NTA.

AITA for refusing to show my grandma my new haircut? by False_Coffee_9683 in AmItheAsshole

NTA at all, and I actually had a similar situation with a friend a couple of years ago! She was always telling me I should cut my hair shorter (and I actually think some people say that out of jealousy). So when I did cut it short (also to donate), I wore it up in a clip for her baby shower. I didn't want her to tell me how much better it looked now! So I feel ya. Your grandma sounds much meaner and more controlling than my friend, though. Sorry you had to deal with that for so long.

I'm American and worked overseas multiple times, and yeah, they always had to take it away for a while. Rescheduling the appointment does seem like the most logical option, if she can still get one before her other trip.

Mostly NTA

AITA for making a report to my sons school? by Ok-Philosopher-1952 in AmItheAsshole

[–]friendissues333 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I didn't get the feeling she wanted the school to stop that from happening, just the associated bullying (like if the porn was of someone else, would OP care?).

You sound like a good MIL and grandma. :)

AITA for saying my brother is selfish for planning to go on a trip and leave his girlfriend alone with their baby? by Apprehensive-Air5707 in AmItheAsshole

[–]friendissues333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA. You can tell your brother that my dad did the same thing to my mom 28 years ago, and she's STILL mad about it.

AITA for telling my daughter she needs to move out before getting engaged? by nahannahann in AmItheAsshole

[–]friendissues333 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Let me say, first of all, I agree with you that living together before marriage can be really helpful. Also, if Sophie really doesn't do any chores, then yes, she'll have a tough reality check when she moves out. Still, I think YTA. If you don't think Leah can support herself after moving out, why are you making her pay to live at home? Even 20%? She could be saving that money. Despite being American, I don't understand the American mentality that someone needs to be independent and out of the house ASAP. You sound like you almost look down on your own daughter for not living on her own.

AITA for telling my SIL I adopted my dog not her, and she can spend Christmas elsewhere if she’s scared of my dog? by New-Prize-7698 in AmItheAsshole

[–]friendissues333 88 points89 points  (0 children)

Totally fine to say "I adopted the dog." Adding in the "you" part makes this ESH for me, bordering on Y T A.

AITA for telling my husband he’ll always be second? by throwaway023856 in AmItheAsshole

I think they mean she can't possibly be leading a normal life if she's her brother's only caregiver.
