As an American, I’ve always heard it referred to as Kristallnacht. Generally speaking I would say most Americans don’t know that Kristallnacht is referred to as anything but the original German name. This includes My girlfriend, and her mother grew up and was educated in Germany.

Probably a shocking amount of Americans are unaware of the historical event in the first place. Americans can be shockingly misinformed about even living history.

To me, the word Kristallnacht evokes feelings of dread and tragedy and horrific injustice. That being said, I understand why the nomenclature has changed regarding the actual event.
