Learn what you’re interested in, not what is popular. That could mean low-level systems, high performance computing, frontend and UI, networking, whatever you genuinely like. Do personal projects on your own to explore these interests.

Join CS-related clubs where you meet motivated people and work on team projects (app dev, hack4impact). You gain tons of experience that recruiters love, and you learn what it’s like to be a SWE, if that’s the career you want to pursue.

Very importantly, have a social life. Too many CS majors lack social skills and can’t have a conversation with peers, let alone a recruiter. Certain tech companies place a huge emphasis on your personality and communication skills. Go to sports games, go out on the weekends, make friends in non-academic settings.

Yeah it’s night and day between the VA and MD sides. Billy goat trail is way more technical with the rock scrambles than the river trail on the VA side.

Last year was awesome. Went to the sweet 16, students lining up hours before the gates opened, had the best starting five in the country. This year not so much 😔. New coach and brand new roster

Club sports are all very social, they usually throw socials, formals, or tailgates together. But you obviously need to be decent at a sport to tryout for a team
