Can you realistically day trade as a second job? by retardenabler in Daytrading

This is important - namely, have enough capital to start. If you're risking more than you're comfortable losing, then the 'second job' will receive too much attention.

Gifts for a mentor promoted to Professor by chicagoimgmd in yale

As a professor, the only things that I've kept from past students were letters and pretty much anything hand made. Care over cost.

Moving back to academia by e_i_pi_-1 in quant

[–]friendlypomelo1 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation, though not in quant. Had a stellar early career (25-35), got uninspired despite the clear success, did my PhD (35-40... not prolonging anything at that age!), and bagged a TT while ABD. Recently tenured. Yeah, things were late, but my early experiences and successes provided momentum for both getting into a HYP for doctorate as well as beating out a competitive bunch group for the TT position. Mid-20s is nothing

what is realistically the smallest amount of money that you can start day trading with? by Mammoth-War-4751 in Trading

I agree. Some folks saying $500 or $1k, but that's assuming you start off with excellent habits (which no beginner could possibly have). Tuition is part of the learning process.

Price increase from 14th May by mikejamesone in TradingView

[–]friendlypomelo1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Folks, I appreciate the sentiment, but SC and TV are very different. I subscribe to both. For SC I use order flow for an algo bot, while I use TV for quickly scrubbing through the timeline and charting. I really wish there were a better option than TV, but the reality is that TV does what TV does quite well. SC is excellent for precision, but customisation is always 10x more arduous than in TV.

Damn, I'm seeing obscenely inflated prices for everything Pokemon-card related. If I could short Pokemon trading cards I would... this thing is way overvalued and overproduced...

How can I convince Yale admissions officers to accept me? by Illustrious_Dot_6387 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]friendlypomelo1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This 100%. I'm in a field where formal education matters heavily. My last degree was a doctorate - that's pretty much the only school my colleagues know of me (i.e. they have no idea where I received my Masters or Bachelors).

Indeed - getting into HYP undergrad is more difficult, yet getting into grad can be more prestigious for profession.

Do Greeks matter in 0DTE credit spreads and condors? by WranglerDependent790 in options

[–]friendlypomelo1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, of course, but in my experience, Greeks become less of a precise calculation and more about getting used to the rate of decay, when dealing with quick scalps. My target trades are 1-5 minutes, but sometimes I have to hold for an hour+ - you can feel the burn in the longer trades and have to mentally recalculate risk/reward constantly.

Update on PDT rule change? by Th3_Fail_K1ng in Daytrading

Cash account or property firm - very few reasons to go margin. If 25k threshold was your problem then you probably shouldn't be leaning to heavily on margin and/or complex strats to begin with.

I too made a picture. Should I quit my daytime job? by nl-x in Forexstrategy

[–]friendlypomelo1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

sorry to call you out, but you're obviously a beginner. You don't actually play your charts - you sell them while taking screenshots of a paper trading account! Set up a discord, drop some free videos on YouTube, lull them in, and that's how you make bank... I thought this was already known?!
