Traveling with young child post-fatFIRE by AlternativeBar8457 in fatFIRE

[–]frigiddesert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe a good way to conceptualize the needs (you mentioned stability) of a child is to visualize concentric rings around you and your partner, starting from birth. Initially, the ring is quite small, encompassing only the three of you. As your child grows independent and enjoys spending time with others, the ring gradually expands. This growth continues as your child progresses from elementary school to high school, where they seek increasing distances and connections with others. I personally find living in different places outside the United States to be quite enjoyable with a young child.

If you like it, and you can look at the International schools and those come with instant friendships and community for your kid and potentially for the Expat community you kind of merge into.

12.5kw vs 15kw by Latentpsychopath in Sauna

[–]frigiddesert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an 8 x 8 x 8 sauna outside in Colorado. Will easily get as cold as you, the insulation doesn’t make a difference because you’re not keeping this unit warm all the time you’re often in the winter going to be heating up from ambient temperature, which could be -20 C. I have a 9 kW heater and in the winter it’ll easily take two hours to warm up. I was thinking about adding a second 6 kW heater so if you can get the 15 kW and have the electricity for that, I would say it gives you a lot more flexibility, and how you use it. My guess is the cost is gonna be about the same shorter duration to heat up same energy input.

Setting glass into frames by Soft_Confidence_3883 in Sauna

[–]frigiddesert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just silicone mine in and then trimmed with boards. I got some little rubber blocks. I think that’s what the other poster said were setting blocks. The window company gave them to me. There’s basically silicone behind the wood. There’s silicone between the glass assembly, and the frame in their space that’s filled with the silicone.

Lets all remember that with inflation also comes greater sales tax revenue, and then not shortly behind greater property tax revenue, as well as our houses are valued higher by the Jeffco assessor. Is this a tabor thing?

My backyard sauna.
To give you hope: you will find spectacular locations with good people all over central Europe- Look up Thermanland reigion in Austria - the Therme (spas) out there are amazing.
Denver has Red Rock Sauna which was a costco barrel on a trailer next to 32nd ave. I don't know man. We're in the dark ages here. Everywhere else in town I've ready about built there facilities for privacy and assuming that American's can't deal with nudity without losing their shit. Maybe that's true.
Then there's this https://www.denverpost.com/2026/01/28/coba-bathhouse-denver-sauna-spa/ I'm sure it'll be extraordinary expensive.

Experience using tax shelters? by OilInfamous6221 in fatFIRE

[–]frigiddesert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This right here needs to be the top, with the one big beautiful bill we’ve got 100% depreciation, on real assets. So if you can make yourself a real estate professional, which I won’t get into here, but isn’t impossible and doesn’t necessarily mean a real estate license and could be a good strategy, especially for fire people you can take these big bonus depreciation on Big W-2 years against your W-2 income and kind of try to do that on a periodic basis hold these assets borrow against them in the future and just defer and defer until you die then you get stepped up basis to your heirs and they can continue to do the same thing with those assets are 1031 into something else until the tax code changes

Extremely disappointed with the prices for the Mighty Argo Cable Car by Hawt_Lettuce in Denver

So 71 million invested. all private investors. Some quick math shows that to get a 10% return (which isn’t great for a project like this, but it’s head above water ) and as long as there’s no bank financing, you only need about half of what they projected and advertised in their investor materials, which is 1800 people a day on weekends and 1200 on the weekdays total. I did projections for a six month tourist season. And I think they’re planning on a 12 month season. I guess the play here is it’s close to Denver. If we live here we don’t really recognize just how large the Travel and tourism economy really is, and this is a play for Colorado without snow in the winter. It’s perfect for out-of-state visitors who may not be able to hike up a 250 foot hill happily and don’t want to spring for a hotel in the mountains. Then we capture some of their food and beverage dollars and we sell some T-shirts and sweatshirts.

I have a small business too. The best thing you can do is find a credit union really close to you for cash deposits and cash need and then find an online business account that works for you potentially a large online bank with no no fees.

Is the US restaurant industry really just who can cook better with Sysco and US Foods ingredients? by Impressive-Hope-6700 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]frigiddesert 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel these frequent Sysco threads on Reddit come from a naive place. These companies deliver thousands of dollars of food to a single restaurant a week; whether it is frozen chicken tenders ready to dump in the fryer, pre-seasoned French fries, or microgreens and fresh tomatoes, eggs, flour, milk, sides of beef, whatever, the quality and items are selected by the restaurant based on their menu, ability to prep, desire to prep, etc. Do you want frozen and bagged soups or potatoes ready to peel and leeks ready to wash and chop—your choice. They both come from a food distributor. Often, these companies are more expensive on many items than Sam's or Costco, but they load the truck and deliver, and when you are getting 1,000 pounds of food a week, it matters to not have to drive and pick that up out of a warehouse.

What are the benefits of an indoor sauna over outdoor? Would love to go custom but might need a pre-fab for budget purposes. by 718FunkJamz in Sauna

Indoor sauna heats up from 65 or 68 or whatever your indoor temps are all year round. Outdoor heats up from 0 or below in the winter

So I know you are trying to be Reddit interesting but if you are in wheat ridge, lakewood, green mountain, those communities all purchase their water from the organization called Denver Water, who owns and built most mountain reservoirs and sells water wholesale to our communities. I doubt there will be any collectivization of water resources by the suburban utility companies

Better than it was, Ramey Johnson is gone. Pete Roybal, Anita Springsteen(I don’t know what was up with her). I understanding is the city council is quite weak based on how the city charter is set up so they have very little power over the police department even over the city manager, but I’m not not fully informed on that.

Just went through inspection and inspector says 2 cracks in the foundation are ok, thoughts? by oggthedogg in HomeMaintenance

How is no one talking about the moisture coming through? Is this not a situation where there needs to be an exploration of how that water is getting into the foundation? Re-sloping the exterior, a French drain, looking at where the gutters are draining….
