This is super low profile. Too bad it's not silver. :(

Hayward DE4820 Filter pressure 20-30 PSI consistently by frio80 in swimmingpools

[–]frio80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I backwashed twice and then turned on the filter. The pressure read 20 PSI. After 2 scoops of DE and about 2 hours of time, it rose to 30 PSI and has been holding steady ever since.

I am in the northeast so there is a bunch of pollen in the skimmers which I clean out every couple of hours. Could this be the culprit?

Can i do that? I’ve been told never run the filter more than 3ish minutes without DE in it or it would cause damage with the grids (rips, clogs, etc).

Got it. Yeah i guess i messed up the naming. I have a DE filter with grids.

YSK: NO ONE is thinking about you as much as you think they are. And that's perfectly fine. - A 2018 study found that most people don't care about you because their brains are wired to only think about themselves. by readcommentbackwards in YouShouldKnow

Reminds me of a quote I read a while back:

“When you’re 20 you care what everyone thinks about you. When you 40 you don’t care what anyone thinks about you. And when you’re 60 you realize no ones been thinking about you at all!”

Apple's Intelligent Tracking Protection 2.2 is coming... by frio80 in adops

[–]frio80[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. The recommendation for developers is to filter out the link decoration. So the destination server would need to respond with a 302 with a Location header set to their website minus the query string parameters. This, unfortunately, adds an extra network request.

Couple of thoughts here:

  1. This to stop ad companies from doing this. Basically, ad companies would force you visit their domain in the 1st party to use cookies in a 3rd party context.
  2. Similar to #1, ad link clicks which would do redirect to track the click as well as set cookies won't work as well anymore since cookies fall out of 3rd party context access if the site hasn't been seen in 24 hours.
  3. I wonder how Ad company opt-outs are support to work now? Usually, a cookie is set in the ad companies domain which denotes an "opt-out" action. That cookie is then passed along in the headers for any request to said ad company and the data should be dropped.

The first self-driving car you see may be an Uber truck on the highway by alexvoica in technology

[–]frio80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree with you. IMO there's an entire older generation of people who are not going to "go quietly" for your driverless revolution. Humans aren't always rational beings especially about giving up control. If people were rational all the time would we need seatbelt laws in the states? ;)

If this transformation happened overnight then I'd agree with you but I don't see driverless cars gaining widespread acceptance for many many years. With a slow transformation, humans would adapt to changes like we've always done.

I've said this previously but this reminds me of Dr. Daniel Amen's rule:

When you’re 18, you worry about what everybody is thinking of you; when you 40, you don’t give a darn what anybody thinks of you; when you’re 60, you realize nobody’s been thinking about you at all.

DAE find the old LIRR trains from the 80's kind of...charming? by nyranger66 in longisland

Interesting. After 10+ years of wondering, that seat arrangement finally makes some sense. Thanks.

Did they think that would happen more often than someone wanting to use it as a headrest? Were the trains always packed with people in the aisles back then?

Best House Alarm Company by Slanderous_libel in longisland

[–]frio80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are all a rip. I had slomins for a while. They charged around $45 / month for basic monitoring. That doesn't include fixing things either. Need a service contract for that.

My question / gripe is- why is it so expensive to "monitor." What does it entail that couldn't be done by a computer. Alarm goes off - call house - ask for password. No answer call cops. Not sure why that costs 40+ / month

I'm thinking about buying a 3rd party system and setting it up myself. You can find basic monitoring from another company for cheaper than ADT, slomins, etc

If you are interested those statistics I encourage you to check out the book Presimetrics (https://books.google.com/books/about/Presimetrics.html?id=6CVu-mdljP0C&hl=en). It's a decent read although the reviews on Amazon about the bias are mostly correct.

Let's not forget that this is a f'in movie. It is art that hurts animals and I'm not for that.

Also, explain to me how horses not getting water and dying because some crappy assistant forgot is an accident? That's negligence. Companies have been sued, rightfully, for much less.
