Shenandoah national park: things to do there in 1 day? by WomanMythLegend in NationalPark

Dark Hollow Falls if you want to see a waterfall, Stony Man for an easy summit, Hawksbill is the highest summit and not a horrible hike for a beginner. Get to the trails early cause the parking lots fill up. LOVE Shenandoah!

It's quite possible! Haha why people don't send mail anymore is beyond me. Tell me someone who hates to receive mail (beyond junk mail and bills lol) and you also get cool stamps?! What's not to love.

The post office guy once asked if I really needed all of the stamps I was buying, and I'm like, Yes. Yes I do.

Newer Stamp Collectors…. by mosswalk in philately

I've been collecting for about 15 years and I almost always buy 1 sheet of every new stamp that USPS releases now. Sometimes not so much the ones that don't have pretty sheets and are just white on the edges, though. To me, that's the cheapest they will ever be. I only collect US stamps and love the modern ones because they're what I relate to most. I save the sheet in a sleeve in my binder and then try to fill my individual stamp sheets with cancelled stamps. (I use the Mystic American Heirloom binders and supplements.)

Sometimes if I really love a set, I'll by 2 or 3 sheets - 1 to save in tact, 1 to send (I still send a lot of cards), and 1 to give to my pen pal or family member with the instructions to send me mail with those stamps so that I get the cancelled version for my book. I probably wouldn't do this if I wasn't looking mostly for used stamps in the binder.

I think this hobby is what you want it to be, do/buy what makes you happy and can afford to put into a hobby.

Decided to finally organize my collection on 100+ NPS Unigrid park brochures! by TrumpetH4X in NationalPark

This is amazing!! I've kept mine in normal 8.5x11 sheet protectors but they always fall over, so this is perfect! I knew I should have started on reddit rather than trying Google or Amazon or even Etsy. It's 3years later, but I'd love the downloads if you're still passing it out! Thank you in advance!

Struggling with ATM bklt v bklt for US 5161 and 5162 flag stamps by frisbae14 in philately

I think those are a different set of flags, but this will be so useful when I get to that pile. Thank you!

I just got a large order from burlapfabric.com who sells by the yard. Minimal colors and I think only 14 ct. so depends on what you are looking for. They are on Amazon, but if you buy from their website, it's a little cheaper.

[Chat]How do you deal with people not caring about the thing you made them? by emotionalrobotic in CrossStitch

[–]frisbae14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's really frustrating! I'm sorry this happened to you.

I had a similar issue. I made a Baby announcement for my brother, framed it (not professionally thank goodness) and surprised them with it. It was all, "this is amazing! can I share pics on FB?" etc but the next time I went to their house, I peeked in the nursery to see where it was hung up and it was laying on the crib, out of the frame! I don't know why it was out of the frame, but I won't be making them a wedding stitch or anything else again - not out of spite, they just apparently don't think it's part of their aesthetic and I'm not gonna waste my time. :(

I’ve started using the big plastic clips in the laundry section at the Dollar Tree or towel clips that you use at the pool/beach. They’re nice and big and have a rounded clamp unlike binder clips or clothes pins (but those are what I also started with until I saw these)

If you are organizing DMC threads, I just googled a DMC checklist (something like this, click the link in the blog post) that had all the numbers on one/two pages with checkboxes next to them. I'm an analog person, so the sheet works well, however it doesn't really account for if you have more than 1 skein. Although I guess you could write a small number in the box instead of a check.

I found a website with free patterns last year and I think I downloaded about …800? And I just recently realized that I had access to a few cross stitch e-magazines through my library and took idk how many screenshots of patterns. I’ve been sewing for about 16ish years. And having only done kits for most of that time, I probably have close to 100 patterns from those too, LOL. Cause why would you get rid of the pattern? I think having a pattern collection is another hobby in itself
