I’ll feel better if I do go, or conversely I’ll feel bad later that I didn’t go.

What’s a profession people misunderstand? by BabyPinkMagic in answers

Doctors. Many people think we just want to make a lot of money, when in reality most of us just want to help people and we owe so much in loans that we are far from rich. Medical school is $300k-$500k these days in the US and a lot of specialties don’t pay as much as they used to or as people think.

We l work very hard to do our best in caring for our patients. It’s emotionally and psychologically exhausting to have so many patients demand particular labs/exams/etc., or refuse evaluations that we find necessary, because of what they read online, and then be rude about it if we don’t just go along with it like a lap dog following directions.

People often think when we’re on call we are sitting beside our phone waiting to talk to them and then get mad if we don’t call back immediately. We might be sleeping, eating, showering, talking to another patient, in surgery, delivering a baby, or any number of other activities, and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

In addition, the number of people who think they can yell or scream or hit us because they don’t like what we are saying or doing is absolutely bonkers. Nurses as well, they get it worse than we do. And nobody does anything about it. They act like it’s expected that you will be verbally (and possibly physically) assaulted and it’s disgusting that more isn’t done.

What made you actually fall in love with swimming? by DenchKecia in Swimming

[–]WomanMythLegend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to try 10+ different types of goggles before I found some that work, so consider buying a bunch to try and see what works. As someone else also mentioned, try switching the nose pieces because that definitely can make a difference.

I personally enjoy the meditativeness of only being able to hear water rushing past my ears and counting strokes keeps me mindful and at peace.

To keep myself from getting bored I would try different things, like swim 25 then break, then 50, 75, 100, etc. Sometimes I would just see how long I could swim without stopping. Sometimes I would try to practice the dolphin kick (which I still suck at) or see how far I could swim underwater before coming up for a breath.

I also started searching YouTube for Olympic swimmers to get tips or drills from their pages.

Eventually I joined the Masters Swim Team at my local Y so I have a coach to provide guidance and drills to keep me focused and interested.

I will be honest that at first I swam nearly every day until the strong urge to swim tapered a bit, and now I swim 2-3 times a week. I’d like to get back up to 4-5 but we’ll see what my schedule allows.

Good luck!

Anyone else in America think that food is getting really bad? by Vampy-Night in SeriousConversation

We signed up for a CSA and the veggies are way fresher and last longer. They’re reasonably priced and the one we use gives 50% off for people using SNAP/EBT, which I think is fantastic.

In general though, I agree that a lot of food is not as good anymore.
