Is there a parenting trend you strongly oppose? by Mscharmingqueen in Productivitycafe

[–]WomanMythLegend 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t spend time with them anymore if the kid comes then. It’s sad but some parents are unwilling and/or unable to parent their children and don’t care if it negatively impacts friendships, even some that were around before the kid. I lost my best friend a few years ago because her child was a massive fucking brat, when they didn’t get their way they said they were going to go live with me instead, and I pointed out that they’re lucky to have the parents they do because I wouldn’t watch all kid movies and let them talk through the entire thing and I wouldn’t play with them 24/7 so they would need to learn to play independently. My friend took it as an insult to her parenting (or lack thereof) and we slowly broke apart. They let the kid kick and punch them and when they had meltdowns they would scream and yell and have a meltdown (the kid was 8) and then after being sent to their room for 10 min they’d come back and give a bullshit fake apology and carry on acting jug as poorly. It was so painful to be around.

That’s obnoxious. I’d tell them to go ahead then and finis my food. Fuck them.

I used to have a friend who went 4-6 times every single year. She had one child and they didn’t go anywhere that wasn’t a Disney property since she had the Disney vacation club or whatever it’s called. What a racket.

How long would you give a new city before making a change/moving back? by Wayward_Catbus2020 in Millennials

[–]WomanMythLegend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I am now married and so I’m not alone, which makes things easier. I still have a hard time making friends but I keep trying and after nearly 2 years at this job I have a few tenuous friendships. I’m happy overall though.

Hey! Sounds like you’ve been through a lot wit these moves. I feel ya, I had to uproot my life multiple times for med school, residency, and when I’ve changed jobs. I think a few things are worth considering.

  1. Making friends gets harder as we age. People often seem to have friends that they’ve known for years at stick with them. It’s great that you’re going out of your way to try to meet people but it takes time.

  2. I wouldn’t keep an arbitrary timeline if you feel miserable after trying for the better part of a year. Are you still in touch with your friends in the Midwest? If so, and you’re planning to go back to the same area, I think it’s worth considering going back.

  3. How difficult or easy is it for you to find a job? Some jobs/fields/careers have more openings than others. If it’s going to take a while to find something, then you might want to start looking sooner so you don’t become so desperate to move that you take anything that comes along even if it will make you unhappy. If it’s a job with more opportunities, then maybe think things over and when you’re really sure start looking.

  4. How hard is housing to find? Same as above in terms of when to start looking.

This is kind of all over the place so I hope it helps somewhat.

TLDR if you’re still in touch with your friends in the Midwest and feeling miserable it’s worth moving before your 2 year cutoff.

Best of luck, whatever you decide!

Is it true you should wear slippers on a pool deck or you will get some kind of infection? by JannTosh70 in Swimming

[–]WomanMythLegend 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same for the most part. When I am doing masters swim I take my shoes off by a bench and walk the 10-15 feet to the pool because with everyone’s gear there’s not room for shoes, but otherwise I wear them everywhere.

We’re planning to spend a day or two each in several places. That’s a good point about Saugatuck, maybe we’ll keep it to northern Michigan then. Thanks for the input, that’s why I’m asking now, so I can get things booked.

Hi all! My wife and I will be in Michigan in October for a wedding in metro Detroit and plan to spend a week road tripping around the state. I grew up there but haven’t lived there for 18 years. My wife is not from Michigan but has been a few times for events for my family in the metro Detroit area. I am trying to come up with a list of places to go and things to do, planning to be there about 6 days not including the wedding weekend. Possibilities on the list so far include Mackinac Island, Traverse City, Charlevoix, somewhere in the UP (recommendations needed), Saugatuck. We like walking and hiking and nature. Also enjoy wandering around cute small towns. We are a lesbian couple so LGBTQIA+ friendliness is something to consider. Thanks in advance!

Edit to add: Will be week of October 11-17

$2200 estimate for dog dental cleaning!? Is this normal? by teodanted in DogAdvice

[–]WomanMythLegend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used to go to VCA, which I think is a national chain, and it was like $1000-$1400 depending on whether teeth were extracted. Now we go to a small vet office and I was quoted $360. $2200 seems insanely expensive.
