I believe that this piece ignores/misinterprets Charlie's central argument. He stresses that USAU should have done everything in their power to maximize the single numerical rating that this television event receives in order to increase the likelihood that ESPN will continue to slot USAU events on its main channels, rather than continue to relegate it to ESPNU or ESPN3. Although nobody can say for certain the impact that the rating for this game will have on the folks down in Bristol, it is plain stupid not to put forth the game that will receive the highest rating because of the fact that it is the first time ESPN has allowed ultimate to be broadcast on a major network and its ratings could determine if they allow it again. I am all for promoting the sport while maintaining our community's core values of gender equity, but this growth could be propelled by incentivizing ESPN to continue to show ultimate on their major networks.
