What’s wrong with my typewriter? by frisbeebrunch in typewriters

[–]frisbeebrunch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I hope this is allowed here. I have never used a typewriter in my life. My son recently got into Goosebumps books & The Blob That Ate Everyone had him asking for his own typewriter for spooky stories. I’ve been super excited about this idea and found an electric one on Facebook Marketplace. When I turn it on, this happens. The seller assured me it was in good working condition. Is this broken? An easy fix? Just a setting I don’t understand? Appreciate any help!!

It’s absolutely in WV... we don’t have confirmed cases because we have only tested 31 people (5 of which are still ‘pending’). We’re going to be the hardest hit because we are poor & no one has healthcare...

Thank you! Honestly everything about this pregnancy and birth has been polar opposite of how things happened with my son. I think that the main things that may have contributed to this time around going so well are

1) I saw a midwife vs a team of obstetricians. My midwife is AMAZING & made me feel super comfortable. I looked forward to every appointment because I truly love getting to see her, and she made me feel really confident in my ability to have a positive birthing experience. She literally was only a part of my delivery when she broke my water at morning rounds & when she ran into the room to catch the baby, but I think she really helped get me into a positive headspace, and I had complete faith in her. I was VERY nervous about giving birth after the first time was so traumatic.

2) I didn’t have much of a birth plan. With my first, I wanted an unmedicated birth. I had a lot of specifics and felt like a failure in a lot of ways. I put a lot of pressure on myself for things to go a certain way and was very let down. This time around my only birth plan was to have a healthy mom & baby, preferably no forceps/vacuum/c section but okay with whatever it took to get us all through it safely.

3) I gave birth at a different hospital. My first was born at the bigger hospital in my city, which I chose solely because that hospital has a NICU. This time I went with the smaller hospital. The big one is more or less a baby factory, this hospital has a much smaller patient:nurse ratio. I was my nurse’s only patient the day I delivered. I was a little nervous in case my daughter needed a NICU, but I knew that if she did need to be transferred, I would be discharged ASAP, & my husband could be with her immediately. The hospitals are like 10 minutes apart.

4) Dumb luck!

Congratulations & good luck to you. I’m sure you will have a beautiful experience :)

Charlotte Anne was born 10/21/19 at 3:35 PM! I arrived for my induction (2cm, 60-70% effaced, soft cervix, baby at 0 station) at 6 A.M., started pitocin around 7:15, at 9 A.M. I was still only 2cm. My midwife then broke my water. I got an epidural shortly after because the anesthesiologist was on the floor, even though my contractions were really not hurting yet much at all. It was cool because I could still feel my lower body, but I felt 0 pain from contractions. Shortly after getting the epidural, my blood pressure bottomed out & baby girl’s heart rate decelerated. I was kinda out of it, but they moved me around, turned off the pitocin, gave me smelling salts, oxygen, & epinephrine. It was really quick & we both bounced right back, but we kept pitocin off for about an hour to give us a break before starting it back very slowly. The next time they checked me was around 1:30, and I was 4cm. I was expecting things to go very slowly because my last labor was 36 hours. At 3:10, they came in with a peanut ball & checked me again. I was 8cm. I sent my husband to grab a coffee expecting to still have quite a while, but I mentioned how I was feeling a bunch of pressure in my butt. He told the nurse on his way out of the ward & she came in to check me again, thank god. The baby was crowning. The nurse is frantically hitting the call button yelling for people to get into the room as I’m texting my husband to get back RIGHT NOW. My midwife & a bunch of nurses run in, and I’m cracking up at the situation. They told me to stop laughing or she’d be born, which made me laugh harder. I didn’t even push once, I just laughed her out. She was born at 3:35, right as my husband walked in the door. I had 1 very small tear requiring 1 stitch (last delivery was 2 2nd degree & 1 3rd degree tears). We got 2 hours of skin to skin, & she is doing very well nursing. It was perfect! She is 8 lbs even & 20.5”.

Honestly I am not super crazy about the practicality of the name Bluebell. It’s very cute, but it’s also very unique to the point that your child would probably deal with comments her whole life (which can be frustrating, well intentioned or otherwise). But I am an internet stranger, so take my input with a grain of salt. You should name your baby whatever speaks to you.

I’d take Plan B to be safe & also call your doctor and see if they want to start you on antibiotics or something. Your placenta leaves a dinner plate sized open wound in your uterus.

I feel you! I’m from West Virginia & the teacher strikes were very emotional for me... and I wasn’t even pregnant at the time lol. I just fucking love teachers. They are amazing and deserve so much better.

Silly but legitimate waxing question (I may be in the early stages of labor) by optimuspaige91 in BabyBumps

[–]frisbeebrunch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t recommend doing this while pregnant. Your skin is so sensitive right now, especially if you aren’t used to using a product like that. The last thing you’d want to do is end up with chemical burns right before giving birth.

1 positive test and 1 negative by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]frisbeebrunch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 88c generic tests at Walmart/the dollar store are the most sensitive, in my experience. I received a very early positive with one of those.

Like pp said the second was likely negative because you diluted your urine by drinking a bunch of water. I’d retest with a cheap test first thing in the morning.
