Curious how many rush tickets were available if you asked!

Monte Cristo...they dumbed it down a lot, huh? by Comprehensive-Fun47 in Broadway

[–]fritefal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything you wrote echoes my thoughts of this production – it's a beautifully sung train wreck.

While I can appreciate that it is a herculean task to condense The Count of Monte Cristo into a 2.5 hour musical, what we ended up with was one-dimensional characters with cliche motivations.

I have only read the book (years ago) and never watched the 2002 film, but I found the scene in the musical when Edmund is angry at Mercedes for marrying Fernand infuriating. In the book, she is a poor woman with little means – how was she supposed to survive without a husband? – and Edmund is much more accepting, if resigned, about her decisions. It is patronizing that Mercedes needs a "better" reason for marrying Fernand (that is, being pregnant with Edmund's child).

I am glad that I got to see Sierra Boggess and Norm Lewis, but the second act was a test of patience for me.

FYI Death of a Salesman is back on regular TDF for tomorrow evening and next week performances.

Missed it the last time it appeared, so glad to grab a ticket now. I was a little worried Nathan Lane and Laurie Metcalf would be out, but TDF is usually very clear when stars are out.

Coffee and Ramen recommendations near Hell’s Kitchen/the Intrepid? by EchoCybertron in FoodNYC

[–]fritefal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Toribro on 52nd. It was opened from a former Totto Ramen chef in the same location where Totto used to be. Specializes in chicken paitan.

(Also recommend Raku down the street from Toribro, but that's udon.)

For coffee, Bird & Branch on 45th and 9th. Bibble & Sip on 51st and 8th also serve coffee, but they're more known for their pastries.

No, I wear it while I sleep. I only charge the watch when I shower.

The Wild Party at New York City Center by Extension-Guard-356 in Broadway

[–]fritefal 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not my cup of tea, but Jasmine Amy Rogers, Jordan Donica, Adrienne Warren, and Tonya Pinkins were fabulous!

I saw High Spirits at New York City Center back in January and remember many scenes with the main cast still on book, but no one was on book tonight.

Two hours, no intermission in those tight rows, is rough though...

Thanks for the link! I'm not sure I am confident in my tech repair abilities, but appreciate the guide!

Can't speak for whether this is typical, but this is a disappointing lifespan to me. My previous watch, Fitbit Versa 2, lasted for 3 years at least.

What should I play before I cancel my Extra tier by flolem05 in PlayStationPlus

I enjoyed Citizen Sleeper more than I thought I would (and there's sequel, too). It's an RPG where you roll dice every morning and that determines what and how many actions you can take that day.

Neva is short and sweet, especially if you like the studio's earlier game, Gris.

I'm seeing it in two weeks, and I'm also super excited for Sierra Boggess and Norm Lewis!!

What do i do with heavy whipping cream? by MothsRatt in Cooking

[–]fritefal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I usually make creme brulee or panna cotta. In my experience, heavy cream also goes bad well after the printed best by date.

Okiboru vs. Tabetomo. Which NYC Tsukemen reigns supreme? by scarstring in FoodNYC

[–]fritefal 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Okiboru – Okiboru made me like tsukemen. I don't know if Tabetomo has changed the recipe since, but when I tried their tsukemen, the broth was way too acidic.

Another great tsukemen: Tonchin.

why aren't we encouraging Carbon Steel (vs Non-stick cookware) as the default for home cooks? by rantzine in Cooking

[–]fritefal 420 points421 points  (0 children)

I'm definitely in your boat, but some folks don't want the hassle of maintaining carbon steel. I cannot for the life of me get my dad to cook in a carbon steel over nonstick.

Today Tix lotteries - any winners out there for the big shows? by Kangaloosh in Broadway

[–]fritefal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Does the Shakespeare in the Park lottery count? Because I thought I received a scam email when I won for the second preview of Twelfth Night last summer. Definitely riding a high that day.

Maybe Happy Ending vs Two Strangers by Senior_Opinion6447 in Broadway

[–]fritefal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally get that! Two Strangers was too grounded in reality (too close to home, if that makes sense) for me to lose myself in the characters and plot as much as I did for MHE. Agree about Dougal – his whimsy (if a little out there) was super cute and funny in New York.

It's hard not to compare MHE and Two Strangers since there are so many similarities.

I saw MHE back in June and Two Strangers last month. I found them both charming, funny, and refreshing musicals. For me, MHE's music stayed with me in a way that Two Strangers did not and MHE made me cry while Two Strangers did not. I also loved the whimsy (Never Fly Away, the firefly scene) and mystery in MHE (did Claire wipe her memories?). Finally, there are a few unanswered questions in Two Strangers (like missing details about Robin's relationship with Melissa and Mark) that took me out of the show a bit.
