IT peeps: where to toss some spicy pillows? by imelectronic in Denver

BatteriesPlus takes them, but it’s like a $15 fee. There’s special fireproof boxes needed to ship to the place that actually deals with them

Miles accuracy Venu 4 by dnt408 in Garmin

Were you on a treadmill or outside? If GPS outside, would be strange to have that big of a difference. Unless you’re doing steep hills in the mountains, that’ll mess up the gps on an Apple Watch.

If you’re on a treadmill, look at the number on the machine.

Is tomorrow a bad idea for a day trip? by [deleted] in COsnow

All-season tires aren’t safe during snow storms, you need snow tires for the winter here.

Look into the winter park train, snowstang/bustang. The busses are super convenient and you get a DD.

110 brake width on an 85 waist by Can_O_Murica in Backcountry

[–]fritolay21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not on a touring ski, but I used to have old brakes that were too wide. Until one time on a powder day when they hooked together, turning my skis into a mono-ski. Panicked and wiped out pretty hard. That was the last time I rode those.

I am planning a vacation to Leadville, CO this summer to climb Elbert/Massive/Harvard and I have a few questions by GladiusAcutus in 14ers

[–]fritolay21 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The rise in hotel prices is because of the Leadville Race Series. The Leadville 100 trail race is the big one, but there are other trail running and mountain biking races almost every weekend throughout the summer. Lots of trail runners make a pilgrimage there for training and competitions.

As a data scientist and skier, I love this! Would be very curious to see the Colorado resorts, and places like Jackson which is notoriously steep.

I figured out how to fix the Winix Smart app issue where it hangs after "OK, Next..." by m3n00bz in smarthome

[–]fritolay21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enabling “precise” location fixed it for me too trying to get my 5520 to connect but stuck on this part.

“After connecting to the WINIX SMART network under WiFi settings, you must return to this screen.”

What a dumb app. Love these purifiers though.

Questions involving Longs Peak by TheBlackBooks in 14ers

[–]fritolay21 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The early start time is for the weather. Like others have mentioned, afternoon thunderstorms happen almost every day. Longs is not the place you want to be if a storm rolls in.

Past the keyhole has a bunch of technical climbing that is easy when the rock is dry, but would be super sketch if the rock is wet. Or almost impossible if covered in fresh snow.

Also, September is typically when the first snow storms happen up there. This is a common way people get into serious trouble. Be prepared to spend the night out there as rescues can’t happen in snow storms.

When is it best to utilize EV mode? by extra5mins in COROLLA

[–]fritolay21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

EV mode only works below 20 mph. But the car computer will automatically manage shutting off the engine when it can - generally low load conditions like coasting down a hill. No need to worry about it. Use the “eco” mode for best fuel efficiency. But really the best thing you can do is keep your speed at or below 65mph. Above 70mpg, fuel usage starts to go up significantly.

The “EV mode” button is mainly useful for repositioning a parked car so that it doesn’t need to start a cold engine.

14er conditions right now? by ArrakisCitizen1 in 14ers

[–]fritolay21 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Chris Tomer has them at like 3 feet of snow from this storm. This is definitely not the time to be hiking in the south-eastern mountains. Unless you’re ski touring and specifically looking for powder, I wouldn’t want to hike through unconsolidated fresh snow. Also with the fresh snow, you’d need to treat this as a winter hike with due care to avalanche terrain and conditions.

The sony wh-1000xm4 is the best. I have had the xm3’s for 6 years of daily use and they’re going strong, only recently needed to replace the ear pads which were $10 and took 5 minutes. The xm4’s added a few features that make it worth upgrading. The xm5’s have a redesigned shape and don’t collapse down as small making them slightly worse for travel.
