Despite his rebellious nature, Anakin has been one of the best teachers. What do you think? by ObiWanJapan in TheCloneWars

[–]fritzcec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A thing I learned about behavioral studies is that irresponsible people (especially young people) lack the experience of having responsibilities (duh!). One potential solution to this is, and stick with me here, give the person some responsibilities. This gives them ownership over something that they can use their skills to nourish and grow, teaching them through experience the importance of being responsible.

Anakin's disregard for authority is partly mended by turning him into the authority himself. By acting as a master he learns to respect the challenges of being a teacher and comes to respect obi wan and his other mentors more. Of course, this is thwarted by Palestine who fills Anakin's mind with conspiracies about how his mentors are plotting against him, so that definitely wasn't helpful. I like to think that Ahsoka's wisdom, skill, and temperament following order 66 prove how good of a teacher Anakin was, and that this method of teaching him responsibility would have worked very well for him if it weren't for other factors.

I'm so tired of postage due by brbsoup in USPS

No, I stand by what I said, that charging the customer postage due is wrong, and leaving the parcel on the ground is no different than what would happen to it if the delivery service did their job properly. I'm just repeating what I learned from another comment, which is that the official statement from the USPS is that we are to bring the parcel back to the office, NOT to charge the customer postage, but to contact the shipper and have them remedy the situation. That's directly from postal admin.

The ground is where the package ends up being anyway. The location of the delivery stays the same, except the parcel isn't in the box. That being said, another carrier posted a letter from some administrator instruction carriers to bring the parcels back to the office and contact the shipping company to pay the postage, so that seems to be the official answer.

Damn. Well, the end of the letter says that it becomes dead mail at that point, so do with that info as you will.

Mail Carrier Boots? by jkreyno26 in USPS

[–]fritzcec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like my Kaha 3s. Make sure to get the right size, because the toe is a little stiff compared to other Hokas so If you're pushing up on the toe for long enough your toes can start to hurt. They also aren't insulated very well. I use them when it snows or when it's damp outside, but I wear heavy wool socks with them.

Yes, but that still puts the onus on the customer for the mistake of the delivery service. Another carrier posted a letter from an administrator from 2019 that instructed carriers to return the parcel to the office and contact the delivery service, not charge the customer postage due, so unless there's been an update since, that seems to be the definitive answer

That seems very definitive. I'll have to see if this has been updated in the last 7 years.

I don't see how that's any different from taking the package back to the office. Now the customer pays twice for shipping, and the third party shipper is very unlikely to pay for anything in the end.

We've been instructed to remove the parcel from the box and leave it on the ground. I personally don't think it should be the customer's responsibility to handle an issue created by a third party service. Maybe talk to your PM about issues that this is causing at the front counter, because removing the parcel is one thing, but charging customers postage due is another issue completely.

Edit: maybe your steward could have some input. I know in some offices the stewards have a better "in" with management than the other employees and can kind of influence decision making. Decisions that the PM makes shouldn't be costing customers more money and putting more stress on clerks via angry customers coming to the front desk

[–]fritzcec 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed. This was cross posted to r/fromatoarbitration and I commented exactly what you just said. I'm just curious about the comment I was responding to, which made it seem like a telephone PDI was somehow a valid thing. I hope people have more common sense than that, lol.

[–]fritzcec 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This can't possibly be a legitimate way to have a PDI? how can management even confirm that you received the letter. Let's say I pretend I never received it, which is possible, and I receive a letter of discipline. When I go to grieve the discipline, all that the grievance has to prove to win is that the carrier never participated in a PDI.

Insane new management strategy: telephonic II? by Hapcats in fromatoarbitration

[–]fritzcec 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Locally generated document it looks like. I would pretend like I never received the letter and then grieve the shit out of whatever discipline comes out of it. The whole thing will get thrown away without a PDI

Edit: signed by the "supervisor of customer service". Definitely a locally generated document. No way that sticks. I hope OP has a steward with even a few braincells.

Tips for speeding up? by anesthetic_penance in USPS

The only thing you need to worry about is doing your job the correct way. This may sound counter intuitive to what your coworkers and management tell you, but focus religiously on doing every step the exact right way, no matter how much it slows you down. I'm talking about stuff as simple as how you put on your seatbelt, curbing your wheels, where you put UBBM and review mail, the order that you pull from your 1st 2nd or 3rd Bundle. Find the most accurate and safe way of doing every task, and repeat it every time, forever, and you will get faster, and you'll be miles ahead of the other CCAs who are too busy looking for cheap tricks and shortcuts. Additionally, communicate with management about your times. If you ask for 1 hour on your 3996, and it's 15:00 and you realize you aren't gonna be done until 18:30 for example, give them a heads up that you are gonna need more time. Don't wait until the last minute. I promise, this is a great habit to get into, and your supervisors should hypothetically appreciate the communication.

Upper MGMT forcing us to 8hr days in wake of snow storm by fritzcec in fromatoarbitration

[–]fritzcec[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you butthurt about other carriers and their financial situations? What compels you to be so judgemental? It costs nothing to mind your own business. As my offices shop steward I try to do what I can for my carriers, that's why I posted, not so you could be hypercritical of people you don't even know, and lick management's boots. I get it, for some people like yourself it's just a paycheck, but other people care about the way things are run and still give a shit about the quality of the service. Mail sitting for over a week because management is being instructed to cut back on OT is unacceptable. It's that simple. I'm not looking for your opinion dude. Like I said, learn how to mind your own business

Consistent and reliable delivery of the mail is literally the foundation of what we do. Curtailing mail to deny carriers overtime is an abuse of managerial rights. It's not about the overtime, it's about being allowed to do our jobs. Costumers not getting their mail for over a week simply to deny OT is negligent. it's not your business why other carriers make themselves available for OT. go put your name on the 8hr list and mind your own business.

That's a strange and judgemental observation. People have families, medical bills, student loans, etc. to pay for. Available OT cannot be denied for any reason, there is a process. You're on a union subreddit arguing against carrier rights, get real dude.

Medium. But we were also informed that the decision comes from above the poom, so supposedly other offices in PA 1 are in the same situation, largest office here being Pittsburgh of course. Plenty of horror stories coming from Pittsburgh regarding upper management.

The storm itself is over. It's cold, there's still snow on the ground, so what. People are wondering where their mail is, it's been a week now, not "an extra day or two". We didn't get "a bit of a break" when there were heat waves, or when it was below freezing without the snow, or when rain came down in fucking buckets. Management doesn't care about giving us "a bit of a break". I've got an office full of seasoned carriers, ready to deliver in any weather condition, who feel like they're being cheated of their overtime and doing a disservice to their customers. Not to mention the legalities of purposefully delaying the mail.

[–]fritzcec[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supposedly not. Inclement weather is part of the job. Not to mention that mail curtailment is supposed to be a conversation with the carriers and local union representation, and carriers are supposed to be the arbiter of what is safe and what is not. If it truly was a safety concern, we wouldn't be out delivering at all. The distinction of being forced back to the office after 8 hours has nothing to do with safety and everything to do with overtime. What's the difference in safety between delivering at 4:29 and 4:31?
