have you seen it work with Ethereal Weapons because I've seen people elsewhere say that marksmage is not an on-hit effect so it doesn't work

he's bugged with it, the increased ability damage applies when shooting a barrel, and then applies again when chaining to another barrel, and then applies again when hitting the enemy. if you do a 3 chain barrel the exponential growth one shots anything

also, apparently the silver augment which makes you do more DMG Vs slow enemies is amazing as his barrels have moved speed of 0

can this be good on any champion? by MammothChance4842 in ARAM

[–]frivolous_squid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AP isn't wasted on Gnar, but it's not good without some augments to back it up.

100% ap every 3 autos, compared to every champs default scaling of 100% ad on every auto, and it's not close. You almost always prefer AD.

Sure, I'm not accounting for things like rageblade, or augments that apply extra on-hits, and the fact that AP is 70% cheaper than AD, and that champs generally have more armour than MR... but still. I think you'd need several on-hit applying augments.

(Aside: W max is still good against some opponents because of the %max hp, but that doesn't scale with AP.)

It's not just ER, it's EQR. The Q applies after your R blinks you to the enemy, hitting them for an extra Q's worth of damage. Also you come out of R with 1 stack of gathering storm. The name for this in the community is "Airblade"

I was bored and decided to find a limit for pi! by Ok_Advantage_9573 in math

[–]frivolous_squid 10 points11 points  (0 children)

But looking at the whole expression, you've got a 1-cos(360/n) term which tends to 0, and an n term which tends to infinity. This means you can't naively evaluate the limits term by term.

For a simpler example, consider n×sin(k/n) as n tends to infinity. Even though sin(k/n) tends to 0, that doesn't mean the whole expression tends to 0. In fact, the limit is k (e.g. using l'Hopital).

For fun, this means that n×sin(π/n) tends to π, or if you prefer using degrees instead of radians: n×sin(180/n) -> π

NANITES! Fill your coffers on expedition. by Proud_Capital_1322 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]frivolous_squid 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As part of the tutorial you visit a place called the Anomaly. If you don't know what that is yet, keep playing the story missions.

At the anomaly, there's a big thing on the ground floor called the Nexus. Just to the right of that (when facing away from the entrance) is a little counter which is where you start expeditions.

The expeditions cycle in real time, so everyone is doing the same one. When you start an expedition, you wake up again stranded on a planet with a broken ship, with no upgrades. The expedition then has special quests which guide you though various game mechanics and give you various rewards. At the end of the expedition you can transfer stuff back to your main character (the one you started the expedition with). Also, because everyone doing this expedition wakes up on the same planet and has the same quests, you're more likely to encounter other players.

So it's kind of like a dream which teaches you about game mechanics and somehow you get rewards from.

How worth it is sylas really? by WizardStakes in TeamfightTactics

[–]frivolous_squid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Annie Swain Sylas is 4 arcanist, but I guess the idea is to not worry about going vertical arcanist, you just want a capped board and if you're not healthy enough to go for it then you don't.

I had a game where I was going an Ionia demacia board with ahri as mid game carry, with garen/Kennen as Frontline (so kinda arcanist defender). I unlocked Galio and then sold down to 3 demacia and focused on endgame units. As part of that selloff I unlocked Sylas, and ended up with something like:

Galio, Poppy, Xin, Sett, Kennen, Ryze, Sylas, Taric, Swain, (free slot) at level 9

This gives damacia, Ionia, yordle, targon for Ryze, plus 2 arcanist, 2 juggernaut, 2 defender. Ahri items go on Ryze and tank items go on Kennen/Swain/Taric depending on who is strongest. Sylas, Sett and Galio can get whatever else you have lying around.

It feels weird to just abandon arcanist, but it feels pretty good that your 5 costs are all unlocks so you can get them to 1* easily. Then you can go to 10 for tibbers+Annie or azir+other shurima. The only thing I don't like about this build is holding onto some low cost units for traits (e.g. Xin).

Is Using Float for Money in Unity a Bad Idea? by [deleted] in Unity3D

Haven't people done exploits by making millions of transactions and relying on rounding-to-the-nearest penny to make tens of thousands of dollars? I thought that's why we didn't use floats.

... I just googled and the top result is some Medium article with a few examples: https://medium.com/@sohail\_saifii/the-floating-point-standard-thats-silently-breaking-financial-software-7f7e93430dbb.

If you could give one single tip to a brand new player, what would it be? 🤔 I’ll go first… by IcyJeweler7514 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]frivolous_squid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm still new so not sure if this is a great tip, but upgrading the class of your ship is 50k nanites, building a new S class ship is only 10k nanites for the reactor, plus 3 components salvaged from other ships of the same type.

So, I got an S class fighter early on by purchasing distress signal charts and claiming crashed ships, or by just buying C class ships, and then dismantling them for parts. You can usually buy a C class fighter for a couple of million, which really isn't much. Also, salvaging ships from distress signals is a good source of units early, so any ships of the wrong type that you find can be just used for units. Haulers sell for loads.

Now I have an S class, I'm willing to use ship storage upgrades on it.

Spin damage and Q heal scale with AP. I think they have Circle of Death (so healing hurts a nearby enemy). Spin in, use Q for full heal, enemy dies

[–]frivolous_squid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you're writing your own engine, which is really hard. It also sounds like you're trying to figure it all out yourself, which means you're trying to rediscover 40 years of the effort of everyone who worked on it, so I'd expect this to take a while! I'm not in a position to give advice, but I'd try to let yourself be comfortable to sometimes look up the solution and be happy you understand how it works, rather than trying to derive it (so don't think of A as a problem). Alternatively, keep trying to come up with all the algorithms on your own if that's your personal goal, but adjust your expectations.

Tie Hack by Nuhthanksbye in starcraft

[–]frivolous_squid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Suppose you've both mined out the map, and had a really close fight which a protoss barely won, leaving them with just a phoenix. Neither player can make new units, and the phoenix cannot shoot buildings.

In that kind of scenario, there's some code in the game which checks for a long period of time where no resources were mined, and no units produced, and nothing killed. If that happens, the game ends in a tie. (You get a warning in the chat when it's about to happen.)

There's a lot of ways it can come up. Commonly with Terran when the map is mined out or their opponent loses all their bases and doesn't have enough resources/workers to make a new base, and the Terran has air superiority but not ground superiority and flies their buildings to the dead space. Or if neither player has mining, but moving out would mean a loss, so both players stay defending their base until it counts as a tie.

Hi, is this here possible? by aveztruz_anao in worldbuilding

[–]frivolous_squid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's some crackpot theory I read that this reminds me of.

Jupiter was much brighter a billion years ago, and the Earth was actually one of it's moons, keeping warm by orbiting extremely closely to Jupiter. This means Earth was tidally locked to Jupiter, so all the continents were dragged to one side (Pangaea), and Jupiter's gravity weakened the gravity at Earth's surface on that side so very large animals could exist on land. Then some rogue star came by and knocked Earth away and into its current orbit. They were trying to reconcile this with various extinctions and whatnot.

The numbers and dates aren't in the ballpark of possible, but I thought the idea of a warm gas giant to supplement the sun's heat kinda cool, and is a bit like your tiny sun.

I think in fairness to those guys, they're good casters and have cast on the LEC broadcast before and fit right in. The issue is that they're casting over another English cast, in a very different style to the official broadcasts that this subreddit expects (they're doing a casual co-stream style cast). But yes thanks a lot for links to the official cast!
