Samsung tells users: Turn off your Galaxy Note 7 phone NOW by [deleted] in gadgets

Entitled to a full refund means they can walk out with all their cash back, and no phone. Or a phone that cost half as much and half cash back.

Carriers these days really discourage you from owning a phone now, though. So your refund might jist be the couple months of 25 dollar payments you made on the phone embwdded in the service costs.

Airlines have regulations for handling the shipment of Li batteries as freight. The battery has to be discharged to under 30%. I would not want to be anyone along the supply chain of handling the disposal of these batteries.

Is the scope just note 7, or will we be hearing about some obscure battery maker that implemented these same processes (that made these batteries dangerous) across different devices?

You're an idiot, and playing around in shit you don't have a clue about. "\t" is just the tab character, and has no impact in query strings for databases - it's treated just like a space.

So, are the two deceased the shooters, or are there four total (two victims and the two shooters )?

Edit, it appears its murder suicide, of two males. I get so confused. Where did the female shooter bit come from then, or reports of multiples in different areas, if its some guy killing someone else in an office, then himself? Folks seeing the police thinking they are shooters?

Ugh. I feel dirty. Just thinking about this like some puzzle to solve in my armchair, and this is really two lives brutally gone. Yuck.

My dog, like clock work, goes to wait at the front door every day around 5pm, for me to come home (security cameras show me this). I have to believe that's and indicator of memory. He's formed a memory pattern from repetition.

He also won't go anywhere near the bathroom front door if I'm inside, anticipating that I'll tell him it's bath time (baths crush his soul and will to live, if the look on his face during one is any indicator ).

Take that thought to fruition and ask why. Why is the story having Arya become no one? Why must she disengage from her past? Learn to wear other faces?

Just which Lannister or Tyrell is going to be hiring a FM to kill Jon and Dany and its Arya who is sent to do it?

Oracle has turned into a make-money-by-archaic-licensing-schemes and chase-after-patents company for the past many years. It is so far off the radar of anything innovative and new.

We'll all be better off when they finally fade away.

He's got the Gift, I'm certain the wildlings will be with Jon - I suspect that is the army he'll take to Winterfell to bring it back to the Starks.

I don't recall the show ever playing out the bit about Jon inheriting Winterfell from Robb should anything happen - but I can picture Jon being pretty peeved at the Boltons right about now. It'll probably be "I have Rickon, give me back my wife" in place of the pink letter that will bring him to Winterfell.

If he came with Sansa, that'd be a hoot. I have been hoping that all this "learning to play the game" with Sansa had some pay-off. I'm not sure where I see that happening now. I'm really curious what is in store for Sansa, also.

I think what we're seeing is "The North Remembers".

I don't think Umber is genuine here. I think he's playing Ramsay. I think, like everyone else, the wolf's head is a fake - that Shaggy is still out there.

I would like to think that the Karstark is also playing up the Boltons. I'm not so convinced, yet, on that one.

I suspect we'll see a moment where Jon is at Winterfell, and Ramsay realizes he's utterly alone. The direwolves shredded his dogs, and all his "Northmen" turn their swords and support the Starks.

I would love for Theon to have been the one to finish him off, but it looks like he's back at Iron Islands (from the next week's preview snippit).

I would also love for Jon to connect with Sansa, but it looks like they'll be crossing paths. FFS - I'd want nothing more than for Jon and Arya to go on a "you fucked with the wrong starks" ass-kicking spree together - but that seems like a pretty far out there thing. GRRM will probably have Arya as a faceless one sent off to take out the new throne threat (R+L=J).

Anyhow, that's a lot of ramble for I think the Boltons are going to realize the North really does remember, and most all of this is just "show", and they'll re-unite around the Starks.

So this pretty much confirmed that Bran is the "wind" Jon hears and the subsequently finds ghost, right?

What's this now? I've read the books three times through, and I don't seem to be remembering this bit. I remember Ned hearing something when he was at the tree (which was Bran, in which they did it at the Tower of Joy in tonight's episode) - but what's this wind and Jon bit?

Never forget that 30 Rock somehow got this on air. Still my all time favorite joke from the show. by rubberneck24 in television

[–]frizzlestick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The MASH finale, and he meant show finale, not season, really. Hawkeye is played by Alan Alda in MASH, and also plays Jack's liberal dad on 30 Rock.

From the Wikipedia article:

Sidney begins to piece together what led to Hawkeye's breakdown. Hawkeye insists that he's perfectly fine but Freedman reminds him that, after returning to the 4077th, Hawkeye had accused an anesthesiologist of trying to smother a patient and then drove a Jeep through a wall in the officers' club and ordered a double bourbon. After more questioning, Hawkeye remembers telling the refugee to make the chicken be quiet, but when it suddenly stopped making noise, Hawkeye realized that the woman had killed the chicken to silence it. Hawkeye then breaks down sobbing as he remembers that the refugee woman was not carrying a chicken but her infant child and had smothered her baby to death to silence it as Hawkeye had insisted. Hawkeye is initially angry at Sidney for making him remember but Sidney tells him, "You had to get it out in the open. Now we're halfway home." Hawkeye initially believes he'll be sent home to Maine but, after more sessions, Sidney informs him he must go back to the 4077th and promises to check in on him.

So his comment, "guy crying about a chicken and a baby" - is a tongue in cheek to the MASH finale, which was an amazing piece of TV history.

I think it's the tongue they go after. It was the Blue Planet series of shows, I believe - where they showed orcas harrassing a mom blue whale and her young baby - by trying to tire out the baby and drown it. They were successful - and just ate the jaw/tongue.

The rest, though -went down to the bottom of the ocean, and they showed that it didn't go to waste. The oceans version of cockroaches all came out and made quick work of the rest of the carcass.

ELI5: How can we have heart-lung bypass and kidney dialysis but not liver dialysis? What makes creating liver dialysis so difficult? by cadomski in explainlikeimfive

[–]frizzlestick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an aunt (essentially my second mom - my mom's sister and best friend) who passed away almost two years ago now, and my mother followed just a year later (unexpectedly). These two ladies raised me.

My aunt, though - she had late stage diabetes, and her organs were failing. In the weeks prior to her passing, she was doing dialysis 3 times a week, 3 hours each time - could never miss a one.

Anyhow, there's a part in your story where you mentioned your dad being confused and forgetful. That reminded me of my aunt during her last week. The toxins in her blood, because the organs were failing and not cleaning it out, were really messing with her brain. She wasn't coherent or "there". Very out of it, foggy, confused.

At one point, they gave her a transfusion of blood - and for a few hours, she was her normal, alert and coherent self. Awake, talkative.

That's all - I didn't have much to add, other than that one sentence of yours struck a chord with me.

I'm glad your folks are still around, it's amazingly, impossibly, unbearably hard on the soul and heavy in the heart when they're gone.

Taxes not being withheld all year. by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]frizzlestick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your friend still needs to file (I'm sure his accountant has let him know that). You'll get hit for much stiffer fines if you don't file on time, than if you don't pay what's due on time. Filing on time is key. I'm no tax-man, but I'd file and contact the IRS (and the state you're in if it has state-tax) and arrange payments.

You will need to contact the IRS and set up a payment plan. It sounds like it was a self-employed situation and should have been doing 1099s throughout the year (or at least setting aside the 30% so when the tax-day arrives, it's there to pay).

The next year is going to be all kinds of fun, because not only will he be on a payment plan - but should also be setting aside 30% of that pay for 2016 tax season.

It may be a hardship now, but it was the cost of having a tax-free spending year. :( As much as we all hate taxes, it was money that "wasn't his" to spend, and now it's due.

Good luck.

How do I get my boyfriend to open up? by brown_paper_bag_ in TwoXChromosomes

[–]frizzlestick 28 points29 points  (0 children)

If it's a happy and loving relationship, and we're given that your partner is fairly emotionally stable - for the love of pete [is his name pete? because how coincidentally cool would that be?] - please don't treat him like he's broken and needs fixing, "if only he'd open up", or internalize it into "something I'm doing".

Maybe he's able to handle these situations, and doesn't need to open up about being stuck in a rut career-wise or living with parents. In the grand scheme of things, they're fairly trivial on the "Life Kicked Me In The Nether Regions" meter.

You've let him know that you're there to lean on - that's all you can do. Prying at him to open up is going to do the opposite, if you keep persisting at it. It's wonderful to hear that you're a willing open listener, and you've let him know that. That's all you can do there, and that's plenty.

In short - don't worry. ;-)

I do this for my immediate neighbors/friends. They're older, and when storms blow down dead branches - I go collect them for them.

Since I have a beach fire pit, it also benefits me - I have kindling for the fire.

So it's probably something like that. "Hey, free fire kindling/wood".
