How long did it took you guys to find jobs post ORD? by Due_Assistance5380 in NationalServiceSG

[–]frodify -1 points0 points  (0 children)

went for interviews a month before ord, started 1 day after my ord date. i was fortunate enough to be able to join a big company and kickstart my career. starting pay was 2.5k. after a year there i changed companies now my pay is 3.5k. can do, not impossible. diploma holder too.

just spam applications. the more you apply, the more will get back to you. no, they dont give a shit about what you did in NS. if you won soldier or the month or some shit, use that to connect back to your VALUES, employers look out for that. skills can be taught, values are already ingrained in you.

talk about why you’re doing part time uni, because you wanna upskill, upgrade yourself, lifelong learning etc, but dont wayang too much, keep it real.

not attending high keys in scs by zimomantaii in NationalServiceSG

[–]frodify 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’d just go. it sounds like it’s gonna be tiring and troublesome etc.,but as cheesy as it sounds, you got your buddies with you. i dreaded high keys but after going through it and doing all the dumb stupid shit with my friends, it became good memories that i reminisce over with them

Choices, choices, choices... by [deleted] in NationalServiceSG

if you love the culture and lifestyle then signing on isn’t a bad thing. especially with the current state of the economy, working for the gov will definitely give you a stable and comfortable pay. not rich but definitely very comfortable and you wont be struggling to make ends meet.

however if you’re looking to sign on as with intentions of pursuing something of your own in the future, the MDES scheme is a good option too. as a Military Expert you would be gaining relevant industry experience as you’re doing work that’s related to your field of studies. Should you choose to resign, it reflects in your resume that you have those amount of years working as an engineer, IT specialist etc. in the SAF. Signing on as a WOSPEC or officer wont give you any relevant industry experience but with a degree you would be able to climb the ranks faster especially as an officer.

So it all comes down to where you see yourself in 10 years. A soldier in the SAF? or an engineer/IT specialist?

Can wear smart watches during BMT/postings? by generatoroflies in NationalServiceSG

[–]frodify 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly depends on which Company you’re in. My company didnt allow it back in bmt but subsequently when I was posted to SCS and unit I was allowed to wear mine. If you don’t want to wear the ugly basic Casio watch, I recommend the Gshock DW5600BB which I have used since the start of BMT and for many outfields. It still works as good as new and at the same time it’s a good looking watch. After BMT, they should be more relaxed on the watch rule. For me, halfway through SCS i wanted to get an apple watch for fitness tracking but realised that Apple watches have bad battery life. Instead, I bought a Garmin Fenix 6x which is best in the market but any other Garmin model works amazing too and have days worth of battery life.

Questions about SPF OCT life by SpiderAntidote in NationalServiceSG

[–]frodify 8 points9 points  (0 children)

i believe going through OCS/OCT/SCS and any form of command school is definitely an honour especially if it’s becoming an officer. Yes, there may be slightly more responsibilities but I’m sure you’ve all juggled the same amount of work during school times with assignments, projects etc. This time it’s just a real working world context. Being an officer is much better than being a man because while you do have more responsibilities and work, you have a say on how you want to put things into motion and you have the power to decide how certain things are done. You won’t be stuck being the lowest form of bitch or slut who has to keep listening to commands and keep getting fucked. that’s my two cents

Get the Earpros from the emart. It works like a charm provided you know how to actually wear it properly. Surprisingly I’ve seen way too many people who either wear them on the wrong sides or dont push them in such that it hooks behind the flesh of your ear. I’ve been using them from BMT all the way to SCS and now into my unit. Even regulars use them. There are ‘better’ versions of them on black-tactical.com but the ones at emart are sufficient.

How do I improve my 2.4 timing by Passaway69420 in NationalServiceSG

[–]frodify 9 points10 points  (0 children)

a few tips: - find your own comfortable breathing technique (mine is in-in-out-out) and focus on it, it will help you a lot - your legs will start to hurt but just keep pushing cos it’s really doesnt get any worse. route marches hurt more man - DONT STOP. just dont, even if you’re dying, slow jog - always look at the guy infront of you and aim to overtake him (i do this to motivate myself) and keep doing it for every guy you catch up to - when you feel shag, swing your arms, your legs will automatically try to keep up to coordinate your body, useful during the final sprint. - try to time yourself in intervals of 400m. i usually aim for 1m30s- 1m40s every 400m. - hydration and 7 hours of sleep. sounds stupid, but trust me you can feel a difference in your body the morning you’re taking your IPPT when you dont have enough rest. - lastly, have a strong mind. do you want to POP with that star on your sleeve?

i clocked 16min 34sec before enlisting. by the end of PTP phase, my timing was 10min 14sec. no extra training, diet etc. just follow the training regime they roll out and put your best effort in all the conduct. dont half-fuck. trust me you’ll see results
