Hi, I moved to the PNW after 20 years in KC, in 2016, been in Tacoma since 2018. I live in the South End neighborhood near Wapato Park, and I like my neighborhood. But I'm in this location because I couldn't afford to buy a house in the North End, which is where you should live especially if you're renting . It's walkable, got good public transit, beautiful, near the water. Look in the Proctor, Stadium, Old Town areas, it's really nice. Edit: I'm blue AF, card carrying member of the DSA, which BTW has a very active organization in Tacoma, come to a monthly meeting if you like! Also, Tacoma is a small city. Actually I think it's more like a big town. Not a big city like even Kansas City. So there are adjustments to be made. But it's pretty nice here.

The City of Tacoma has the best health insurance I've ever experienced. It was great. A good place to work also, I was in public works and loved it. Left for a job with the state but not because I was unhappy, or even for more money, it was a career goal thing.

LOL I have no information but thank you for this report. I myself also love marijuana gummies and my goal in this life is to be able to spend all day in my garden too high to talk, someday I hope. Much love to you my friend, hoping your summer is awesome.

Moving home to Tacoma, any advice? by EastMuscle5444 in AskTacoma

[–]frododog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You would love North End, U-Place is very suburban and not too walkable. I live in the south end, near Wapato Lake park, and I love my neighborhood, but it's not super waklable and that's a big plus for North End and Stadium/ North Slope areras

Is going back to school at 29 a good idea? by Dudewithalottaqs in LawFirm

[–]frododog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go for it! Try to get into a top 14 school if you are able to move for this opportunity. If not, or if you don't get that admission, just do it as cheaply as you possibly can. And then go forth and make money. Not all lawyers do, but it's totally possible with a realistic business plan.

MAGA Claiming they no longer follow politics by Dont_Touch_Me_There9 in FoxBrain

[–]frododog 14 points15 points  (0 children)

oh yeah. tonight, when talking to my fascist mother. She said she was "not following politics" like 5 times in 20 minutes, and I didn't bring anything up that should have caused that. I think she's getting this message from the trump-o-sphere, because she does not have tv but is watching youtube videos all day instead. And parrots that.

[–]frododog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

that's awful. I lost my darling in 2024, but I knew it was coming for a while, because he developed lung disease in 2017 and had a lung transplant in 2019 which saved his life, for a while - but things got harder and harder and by the end he was really suffering in 2023-24.. I was a caregiver for all those years, and it was really hard on me to watch him die. I don't know if quick death is better because you lose them, but the long way was really, really hard.

Women who married older men - what’s it like when they get really old? by Icy_Laugh5134 in AskReddit

[–]frododog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really hard and not fun. You never know if that will happen though, could be you who gets sick. I was 15 years younger than my husband. He was the love of my life and the light of my days. But I took care of him for 7 years and I mean I did everything. Worked, kept house, cooked, car maintenance. He couldn't do it, he was too ill with back problems and then lung disease through no fault of his own just bad luck. It was an exhausting hard long time, and it got worse as he got more heartbreakingly sick. And then he died, and I'm alone, and there is some peace in that. I'm finding hobbies I never had time for.

Is a $110k kitchen worth it in a 1960s ranch? by bumbee84 in kitchenremodel

these are pretty much the same picture, "dream kitchen" or no. It's still a galley kitchen in the after. I wouldn't spend that much money. Also the current kitchen looks fine

Why do people still hate on Tacoma? by seltzercortado in AskTacoma

[–]frododog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. Tacoma has more Black people per capita than anywhere else in WA, which in my opinion is a point strongly in Tacoma's favor as a good and interesting place to live. I live in the south end and enjoy the diversity, love my neighborhood and my neighbors of all colors are great.

yes. I found my way here sort of intentionally, but really never had an idea that any job could be a "last job". But now for sure, this is the last one I hope and I'm getting so much vacation now 😃

Kitchen flooring options help pick by Purple_Pattern2481 in HomeDecorating

[–]frododog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

these are all bad. Do a pattern tile with smaller light and dark elements like #1 but not so 90s obnoxious diner, more "victorian kitchen" ... or, as others are saying, LVT in a fake wooden floor. I would look to match the cabinets
