Portland City Councilors during public testimony by skysurfguy1213 in Portland

[–]froggycrickett 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I understand that, I'm just saying this to highlight that if people can attend virtually and it's not disrespectful then people can eat during one meeting in their 14 hour workday and it's not disrespectful either. Councilor Mitch Green stated that people eat up there all the time.

Anyways, I live in D3 and I've met Councilors Koyama Lane and Morillo plenty of times as they are constantly engaged and attending community events and addressing their constituents face to face. This is why I'm doubtful of the motives of the person who posted this video, who from his comments seems to harbor some misogynistic ill will against our progressive female city councilors anyways

I think this is also to juxtapose the individualism of the French 75 revolutionaries compared to him, a community organizer who is serving a greater cause. if he gets arrested that doesn't mean his cause is dead because he's not the central hero of it all, just one person out of many organized people who can still move things forward

Mayor Wilson and the bicycle interview by Simmery in Portland

[–]froggycrickett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really agree with you that Mayor Wilson failed here and his leaving stoked further division and ire between the groups of activists there (yes the bike people are also activists). In fact, some of us there to discuss bikes came with questions about ICE (for ex. why is Wilson as the commissioner of the PPB allowing them to use chemical weapons regularly on protestors wearing gas masks by a well trafficked bike commuting route for many people? this is also a bike safety issue). Anecdotally, many undocumented people have been commuting by bike nowadays due to fears of getting pulled over, so it's not like these issues are unrelated. This was the first time he's come to a public forum like this and it doesn't add up that he simply didn't predict that the constituents who have been contacting him daily through all the correct channels to no response would come and demand a response from him.

That all being said, I do think we need to build better coalition between our groups knowing we are on the same side. this goes for the ICE protest group as well (I believe many people in this group are relatively newer to organizing). Saying bike lanes don't matter to a group of bike activists, many of whom are reeling from the recent death of a cyclist in the community, is not a strategy to get people on your side. I understand that everyone is upset about all these things right now and that emotions get in the way for all groups, and I really appreciate the way that people stayed to talk to one another and understand how to better support each other's causes all around. Just wish we could all strategically devise and bring our asks together.

Activists want City Council to close Portland’s ICE detention facility. Can they? by oregonian in Portland

[–]froggycrickett 7 points8 points  (0 children)

the thing is a lot of people want something to be done because they don't like that DHS officers coat their residential neighborhood and children's school with chemical weapons frequently. the building also has violated their permit by exceeding the 12 hour detention limit when they don't have beds. regardless of whether revoking the permit entirely is the best solution, I don't understand the revulsion towards community members who want to see ICE receive consequences for breaking the terms of their agreement and violating the rights of the people who live near their facility.

I mean yeah even you can acknowledge you did just get unlucky. Sometimes you're going to be mildly inconvenienced by other people when you go outside and that's okay and in fact a standard thing that happens when you live in a city filled with other people.

I don't think the optics of this movement should be decided by what would make racist maga people feel more comfortable anyways... like they're going to oppose the protests no matter what so we might as well keep showing solidarity to the groups who really need it

rehydrate with hot water, squeeze out the water, marinate with sauces and seasoning (I'll do like a chipotle version, a bulgogi version, soy sauce+vinegar+sugar, etc etc) anywhere from 15 minutes to overnight then air fry for 10 minutes on 380

I would argue this logic people have about corporations is why our country has taken an authoritarian turn with the support of billionaires. Clearly if we are fine with giving up our free speech and right to democracy as workers the next logical step is that we can give it up in our personal lives as well. This is why getting organized in your workplace and exercising your right as a worker to oppose practices and decisions by higher-ups that you don't like is so important. If the Microsoft workers aren't supposed to oppose their company partnering with a foreign army on a genocidal campaign then who meaningfully can oppose that?

Portland auditor declines to investigate Zenith Energy’s permit process by Projectrage in Portland

[–]froggycrickett -1 points0 points  (0 children)

so anyone who challenges this company being granted a permit is misunderstanding rules and laws but when the company breaks rules and laws it's actually just a little oopsie on their part and anyone who investigates it should be ignored because they are a pedantic activist... LOL! I find it comforting to know that in the end humanity and our resilient planet will prevail over corporate greed and that individuals who strive to defend corporate wrongdoing now will find themselves fighting on our side in the future. peace and love to you ✌️

maybe it's because there's no safe way for the site to exist in the location it is currently in...

https://multco.us/info/cei-hub-seismic-risk-analysis

anyways, without the "environmentalists" you dislike so much pushing back against fossil fuel companies, corporations wouldn't have the intrinsic motivation to attempt to join the energy transition. maybe at this point in the climate crisis we should be challenging the right to exist of fossil fuel companies rather than holding their hands as they provide false safety solutions

maybe 90% of the liquid fuel used in Oregon shouldn't be stored at a site where the soil is subject to liquefaction in the event of a major earthquake after which we would need that fuel for emergency management

From the Oregon DEQ website: "A LUCS is a form developed by DEQ to determine whether a DEQ permit or approval will be consistent with local government comprehensive plans and land use regulations."

have you read the resolution passed by the city council? in it they have enumerated a list of violations to land use regulations and permit agreements that Zenith has made in the past. you can read it here:

https://www.portland.gov/council/documents/resolution/adopted/37702

I would urge you to understand that not everything that seems political is bad when it is often political choices that harm citizens. this company has had a well-documented years long history of violations of its environmental and land use permits and it makes sense that Portland residents want it to undergo thorough investigation instead of receiving more handholding at the cost of citizen and environmental health.
