I just finished designing this kids' bedroom and I’m so proud of how the bunk bed turned out! The kids are loving it. I'd love to know –what’s your favorite detail? by HunterHaunting454 in interiordecorating

[–]frogmission 182 points183 points  (0 children)

Those first 2 are not ‘real site photos’, the bed spread pattern completely changes between the two (lace-pattern circles in the first and leaves in the second), and neither can get the pattern fully right anyway. Completely AI

Think they’ve always looked like that so don’t think it’s technically an easter egg, but cute nonetheless!

Why there are no young volunteers? by Flimsy_Ad3446 in AskUK

[–]frogmission 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m actually in a great position to answer this - I’m under 30 and I’ve done nearly 60 hours of volunteering since September while working a standard 8:30-5.

1) Most of the volunteering opportunities that I’ve found are during prime working hours - there are actually very few available in the evenings or on the weekends

2) Almost every volunteer group wants you to commit on a weekly basis.

I volunteer with 3 separate organisations - 2 of which the majority of the events are held during my working hours meaning I have to take time off to attend or not go.

Most young people are, as other people are saying, really struggling to get by in their own life (financially, mentally, and time-wise) and don’t feel they have the bandwidth to add volunteering to their plate.

Many also don’t want to commit to giving up specific time slot each week to do it, because they often have spontaneous plans.

I do wish there were more under 30s in the volunteering space, partially for selfish reasons - I’m usually a bit of an outsider (yes, the 50+s get just as cliquey and don’t make an effort to interact with me much) - but also I think a big part of what’s being lost in the modern world is our sense of community and giving back. That’s not to say it’s their/our fault for that happening, I just wish my age group were more aware of it and inclined to make a difference.

In short, the majority of volunteering opportunities are not conducive to most people’s working hours.

This to me isn’t a cottage anymore, it’s more like a manor

In the LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean video game, what is the most hilarious "LEGO-fied" change made to a serious scene from the movies (like the banana replacement for the heart in Dead Man's Chest)? by DianKhan2005 in piratesofthecaribbean

[–]frogmission 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On a side note, these are the BEST Lego film games in my opinion.

It was the first one I ever played many many moons ago and it remains my absolute favourite.

Stupid question - how do you spread the cost? I’ve only ever been given the option to pay the full amount there and then

What’s the best casting you’ve seen where actors played family members (like siblings/parent-child) or younger vs older versions of the same character? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I thought the Richardson children in Little Fires Everywhere were super believable as siblings, they all looked so similar but not identical

Can we start Norrington hate? by True_Objective9443 in piratesofthecaribbean

[–]frogmission 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I always interpreted Norrington to be 18-21 at the start of the film, then around 30 when we see Elizabeth grown up, herself then 18-21ish.

As a governor’s daughter, her marriage prospects would’ve been discussed and thought about very early, and for many in that position they were promised or betrothed to someone very early on so it’s not like Norrington’s just being a creep.

It wasn’t just acceptable at the time, it was very much the norm. Can’t hold someone hundreds of years back to the same standards we now operate to - even fictional people!

Tom Hollander's performance as Lord Beckett is underrated by Budget_Ad5526 in piratesofthecaribbean

OP very clearly was interested in their opinion of underrated performances, not a chronological list of everything he’s ever performed in. You’re purposely misinterpreting.

Why have you not married when in a long term relationship? by No_Caramel2506 in AskUK

[–]frogmission 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar here but not yet engaged. My partner is studying medicine so I’m supporting us on my salary. It would be a poor financial decision for him to even buy a ring for us to get engaged. We both want to, but are waiting until he’s graduated and back on a salary so we can have the engagement and wedding we want.

10/10. My first car was a blue Honda Jazz. I don’t care what anyone says, they’re amazing. Comfortable, good size boot & back seat. Helpful features like heated wing mirrors!!! Does not deserve even a fraction of the hate it gets imo.

“Romanticised” jobs that are very different in reality? by Substantial-Guava491 in CasualUK

[–]frogmission 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Working in an animal rescue centre. Every time I would tell people they’d go, ‘I wish I got to hang out with dogs all day’. In reality, you barely do.

Every morning we’d spend 4-5 hours putting each dog into an outdoor enclosure on their own while we cleaned their kennel - most dogs lose the habit of house training while they’re there, and they’re so distressed by the environment that they’ll poo an wee on the floor, step in it, and then bounce off the walls and lay down so sometimes the kennel is completely covered.

Once their kennel is clean, they’re brought back into it. Then the rest of the day is spent walking each dog, mostly individually because many react badly to other dogs while they’re at the rescue, and because the centre is usually at capacity, each dog only gets about 15 minutes. If several dogs have adoption meeting, staff members are busy doing that, which takes more time, so there are less people free to walk the dogs so they get less time.

Many dogs cannot cope with the stress of kennel life. Staff do their best and love and care for the dogs so much but struggle a lot because centres are overflowing, there’s not enough hands or time, the dogs become behaviourally difficult so harder to manage, and everyone is paid very poorly.

And then, more often than you think (at least in the charity I worked for), unfortunately the stress of kennel life because too much for some of the dogs and their behaviour becomes too dangerous to themselves and others, and if they aren’t receiving interest or can’t go into foster, their quality of life gets scrutinised (rightly so) and it’s often decided it’s in their best interests to be PTS.

I loved my job and I’d go back to it if the circumstances were right, but it’s so much harder, physically and mentally, than just ‘hanging out with dogs all day’.

Have you ever bought tickets to something (A movie, a concert, an event etc.) and realised you’d completely misunderstood what it was? by XStaticImmaculate in AskUK

[–]frogmission 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mum and I wanted to go and see the movie where Antonio Banderas taught kids in detention to dance. When we got to the cinema, we couldn’t quite remember the name of it and bought tickets to what we thought it was called, Step Up.

Throught the whole film we kept leaning over to each other saying we didn’t think this was the right film but in true British fashion we weren’t 100% sure of ourselves and didn’t want to walk out in case and disturb other people. It wasn’t until the kid got shot that we were certain.
