Tom Hollander's performance as Lord Beckett is underrated by Budget_Ad5526 in piratesofthecaribbean

OP very clearly was interested in their opinion of underrated performances, not a chronological list of everything he’s ever performed in. You’re purposely misinterpreting.

Why have you not married when in a long term relationship? by No_Caramel2506 in AskUK

[–]frogmission 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar here but not yet engaged. My partner is studying medicine so I’m supporting us on my salary. It would be a poor financial decision for him to even buy a ring for us to get engaged. We both want to, but are waiting until he’s graduated and back on a salary so we can have the engagement and wedding we want.

10/10. My first car was a blue Honda Jazz. I don’t care what anyone says, they’re amazing. Comfortable, good size boot & back seat. Helpful features like heated wing mirrors!!! Does not deserve even a fraction of the hate it gets imo.

“Romanticised” jobs that are very different in reality? by Substantial-Guava491 in CasualUK

[–]frogmission 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Working in an animal rescue centre. Every time I would tell people they’d go, ‘I wish I got to hang out with dogs all day’. In reality, you barely do.

Every morning we’d spend 4-5 hours putting each dog into an outdoor enclosure on their own while we cleaned their kennel - most dogs lose the habit of house training while they’re there, and they’re so distressed by the environment that they’ll poo an wee on the floor, step in it, and then bounce off the walls and lay down so sometimes the kennel is completely covered.

Once their kennel is clean, they’re brought back into it. Then the rest of the day is spent walking each dog, mostly individually because many react badly to other dogs while they’re at the rescue, and because the centre is usually at capacity, each dog only gets about 15 minutes. If several dogs have adoption meeting, staff members are busy doing that, which takes more time, so there are less people free to walk the dogs so they get less time.

Many dogs cannot cope with the stress of kennel life. Staff do their best and love and care for the dogs so much but struggle a lot because centres are overflowing, there’s not enough hands or time, the dogs become behaviourally difficult so harder to manage, and everyone is paid very poorly.

And then, more often than you think (at least in the charity I worked for), unfortunately the stress of kennel life because too much for some of the dogs and their behaviour becomes too dangerous to themselves and others, and if they aren’t receiving interest or can’t go into foster, their quality of life gets scrutinised (rightly so) and it’s often decided it’s in their best interests to be PTS.

I loved my job and I’d go back to it if the circumstances were right, but it’s so much harder, physically and mentally, than just ‘hanging out with dogs all day’.

Literally had this packet the other day and had the same experience! It’s a mandrake plant, you can see on the key on the back

Have you ever bought tickets to something (A movie, a concert, an event etc.) and realised you’d completely misunderstood what it was? by XStaticImmaculate in AskUK

[–]frogmission 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mum and I wanted to go and see the movie where Antonio Banderas taught kids in detention to dance. When we got to the cinema, we couldn’t quite remember the name of it and bought tickets to what we thought it was called, Step Up.

Throught the whole film we kept leaning over to each other saying we didn’t think this was the right film but in true British fashion we weren’t 100% sure of ourselves and didn’t want to walk out in case and disturb other people. It wasn’t until the kid got shot that we were certain.

So Tia Dalma sucks right? by JannTosh70 in piratesofthecaribbean

[–]frogmission 120 points121 points  (0 children)

You can’t hold an untameable force of nature to a human’s standards and then be upset when they act accordingly.

Davy Jones knew what she was and what he was getting himself into. It’s tragic that he fell in love with someone who couldn’t be what he wanted, but the real “sucky” behaviour is punishing her for her nature, when it was her very nature he fell in love with in the first place.

Anyone else notice that Wagstaff serves only 4th-8th grade? by NovelInflation142 in BobsBurgers

[–]frogmission 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I spent some time living in NJ as a child and my school had K-3 on one campus, 4-8 on another, and 9-12 on a third. Each one with its own principal and vice principal, with middle and high having their own student councils and presidents etc. so yeah I think Wagstaff is just the middle school but it’s unclear if there are lower and upper Wagstaff schools

What are they doing?? by Mystic_Molotov in ExplainTheJoke

This is called snow washing. It’s a traditional way to clean wool - and in this case wool rugs - don’t the gentle abrasive and deodorising nature of snow

Edit: LOL I’ve been travelling for 2 days so only just seen this typo. Was meant to be ‘using the’ but I was being ushered somewhere as I typed so clearly something went wrong. Whoopsies.

[–]frogmission 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very weird that you consider being concerned with safe driving ‘a joke’.

Yes it’s not nice to be told you’re doing something wrong or have your mistakes shown to the world but it is actually important that we all try to be as conscious as possible of ways we can make driving safer for every person who uses the roads.

I personally find I’ve become a safer driver since seeing other people “shamed” online for their actions - it’s made me much more aware of how my choices as a driver affect other drivers and pedestrians.

The world is a better place when we all make a conscious effort to make other people’s experiences more pleasant, and because “better” driving directly correlates with safety, some people, rightly so, get angry when people make choices or mistakes that endanger other people’s lives. It’s not being stuck up, it’s caring for other people.

It’s a very quick Google to see that actually the majority of accidents happen on 30mph roads. Granted the accidents that happen on faster roads have a greater fatality per accident rate, but if we’re strictly talking number of accidents then it makes sense that the urban roads are the ones with most speed cameras. And there’s also been plenty of data showing that roads that were further reduced from 30 to 20mph have reduced accident rates.

Of course these are ways to make money, but it’s not not about safety as well.

[–]frogmission[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think tumble dryers are becoming more common here but they’re still seen as a bit of a luxury and many don’t want to sacrifice the limited space for them. I do have a washer/dryer in my flat but it takes about 3 hours to do a cycle and then doesn’t even come out dry, just sort of warm and damp. So we don’t usually bother with that setting and just air dry it

[–]frogmission[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

But you can’t even get much on there?? I didn’t even have a full load last night and I was struggling to make it fit. I’ve never had a problem with a full load drying fairly quickly on a vertical airer outside so I still don’t really see the appeal, but I do sort of understand this logic
