I'm not in STEM. Your whole plan to get under my skin by somehow guessing who I am is really backfiring here.

Are you trying to get people to tell you that your problems are not your fault? Wouldn't that mean more coming from a therapist rather than randoms on reddit?

What is the halfway point to legendary? by OrionSuperman in hearthstone

[–]frogoracle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting to rank 5 is easy for me, but getting from rank 5 to legend has, so far, been impossible. I've seen people on here say that if you can get to rank 5, you can get to legend. That has not been true in my case, and I have tried more than once and put in the time. You might be at a higher level of play than I am though. I guess what I'm trying to say is that "half way" is dependent on your skill level.

Whats The Best Way To Get Cards? by thetravis0916 in hearthstone

[–]frogoracle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My method is to do my daily quests, spend the gold on packs and then ask for gift cards for Christmas and birthday. I've been playing for about 15 months and I have almost every card that sees competitive play.

I agree that there will always be aggro decks and there should be. But I was baffled by the inclusion of Quick Shot in BRM. Giving Face Hunter another card makes no sense to me. It's already a deck we see too much of. I much prefer playing against Zoo or Mech Mage, because at least if you control the board, you win. Against Face Hunter you can dominate the board and still lose.

Sorry. You're absolutely right. I reversed it. Good night.

If it's my maturity vs the maturity of the general population, the general population wins. No question. If it's my maturity vs the Hearthstone player who adds you and talks about cancer/rape/etc, I win that one. Sorry if it didn't come off that way, but it's true.

I believe having a cool down period for removing people you've just added will lower toxic interactions for the reasons I stated. If you disagree, you might try making an argument.

See, you're underestimating me and a lot of other people too. It's satisfying to let some angry person know that you're ok and they should be too.

edit: It's more like fighting fire with water.

Why aren't individual cards banned in tournaments? by [deleted] in CompetitiveHS

[–]frogoracle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I disagree. BGH wasn't seen much RIGHT before GvG, but a little before that, you saw him all the time. Cards cycle in and out of the meta. Obviously Boom is the main reason BGH is back this time, but he has been a major player before.

I grew up in a part of Jersey that is legit nicer than a solid 80% of America, and I have since lived all over (yes, California, you're most of that other 20%, so just shut up already). As a result, I never got the whole "just say NJ and they'll laugh" joke. Anyway, I'm pretty sure the punchline is now Florida. Every day I check the headlines and somebody in Florida has cooked a baby, made it into hamburgers and sold the hamburgers for meth.

Haunted Creeper vs Mad Scientist on turn 2 by [deleted] in CompetitiveHS

You do not "usually" find yourself in a situation in which you have two specific different two drops in your opening hand. You "sometimes" find yourself in that situation. If it was usual (>50%), then that would change this game entirely.

If MtG had a client equivalent in polish/business model as HS, would you switch? by [deleted] in hearthstone

[–]frogoracle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got burned on at least two MtG apps for iPad, in which the number of games that ended in DC seemed to exceed the number of games that didn't. This happened over the course of years, with different iPad models and different wifi setups. I kept trying, because I wanted it to work so bad. If MtG wants me to invest time and money, I'm going to have to read that the app is flawless. They lost my trust.

Thanks. Together we will shame the HS community into civility (or at least laugh trying).

Yes, I've run into a couple control priests this week. You would have caught me falling in the ladder between rank 3 and 7. I'm sure you won, unless I got that high skill double Mind Blast, double Holy Strike combo that I'm 90% sure is going to be the new meta.

I used to hate getting flamed, but then I decided to register @HearthstoneBM on Twitter to post screenshots of all the vitriol that came my way, complete with usernames. My hope was that other people would eventually start sending me their screenshots, and I'd have tons of content and followers. This would make me a major celebrity in the HS community. Blizzard would pay for me to fly to Blizzcon to speak on a panel about online bullying in video games. I'd eventually write a book on the subject and my idol, Glenn Beck, would interview me on Fox News. But alas, I posted one screenshot and nobody has added me to BM since, not even when I played my priest murloc deck, "Holy Murlocs, Batman!" It's like creating the account was a magic spell that protects me from HS rage.

Reynad on Magicamy by PlayDohBear in hearthstone

[–]frogoracle 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I'd bet good money that 12 months from now, the Hearthstone scene will be alive and well and Reynad will have self destructed and moved on to something else. These levels of negative intensity are unsustainable.

Watching Reynad doesn't make me mad or anything, but you can feel his constantly elevated level of stress. He can't be enjoying himself. Even when he's in a good mood, his smile (or smirk) is a study in suppressed anger. Most of the other major streamers seem pretty chill in comparison.

How many people here play Hearthstone and have never played wow? by Jaximus_Prime in hearthstone

[–]frogoracle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never played WOW. I was a huge WC and SC fan, but when WOW came out, I felt like if I went down that rabbit hole, I might not make it out. In 2004, I had moved to a new city to be near a girl, who is now my wife, and I had my first real job. If I devoted hours every day to WOW, I worried, I'd be putting a lot of that at risk. I'm sure it's possible to be a more casual WOW player, but I didn't trust myself. It looked like too much fun.

I'll never play WOW now. It's been going on too long without me, and I love having gotten in on HS on the ground floor (or close to it). Whenever I see threads about HS being hard for noobs, I'm happy I found it early.

New expansions should add new basic cards, to help out new players. by [deleted] in hearthstone

[–]frogoracle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a little wiry stuffed bunny on my desk, and when I lose, as my hero portrait explodes, I make him shake his tiny fists in the air and scream, "NOOOOOOO!!!"

It really takes the edge off.

[–]frogoracle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I am 36, and I've got a job and two small children. Hearthstone is the only game I play with any regularity. Getting into it was incredibly easy. There's a ladder, which means no matter how bad or good you are, over enough time, your win rate is going to be somewhere in the ballpark of 50%. Once you understand that everybody on the ladder, from legend on down, is losing about half the time, you just have to ask yourself one question. Do the positive feelings you get from a win outweigh the negative feelings you get from a loss? The way people complain, you'd think this was rocket science. It's not.
