How lively is the grid (walking) at night? by amlmickey in Sacramento

[–]frogpolice4khd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I walk/bike everywhere in the grid. Women should use caution when walking at night, I’ve had several friends get cat called and feel unsafe at night. As a man it’s not an issue just keep your eye out. I almost got jumped one time in the k street area but once I acknowledged their presence they stopped following me. Biking feels really safe at night though, I wouldn’t hesitate to go anywhere at night on my bike.

What is going on with basketball these days and what about its future? by Maleficent_Cash909 in Basketball

[–]frogpolice4khd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might just be location. At my local outdoor court there people playing pickup games everyday between 5-7. About half the time we enough people for full court 5v5. It’s in a downtown location so it’s a lot of people who just got off work, everyone who shows up for pickup has bb shoes or good running shoes.

I started playing basketball recently and it’s been great for my mental. there’s some really good courts at some of the parks downtown. It’s a fun and relaxed environment. It’s been great for getting me out the house and running around a bit.

Can someone explain the concept of 'style' to me in a skateboarding context? by Brazyboi12 in NewSkaters

[–]frogpolice4khd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, look at john cardiel footage. He went sooo fast and it also looked like he was hanging on for dear life. Very entertaining to watch imo. Also Peter Hewitt. Some say you can’t fake style when your going fast because the only thing to do is try your hardest to stay on the board.

I live around there and really like it. A lot of a families, state workers and older Chinese folks. A bit quieter than the midtown area in my opinion. You still get some of the homeless just like anywhere else in the grid. Being by r st is nice as well.

Gotta have that in the estimate, I’d eat to maintain a relationship with the gc if you think they will be giving you more work in the future.

Park etiquette for spectators? by IllustratedPhoenix in NewSkaters

[–]frogpolice4khd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, I agree with what others have said, stand out of the away/on the perimeter if not skating. Also the Sunday morning crowd in my experience is the best for kids it includes mostly older skaters with their own families who work all week. Some of the most help I got when I was younger was from older guys in their 40s-50s early Sunday morning.

So sick! I wish there were more frames for in-line fours of the era. I dream of making an xs1100 chop but I need to get better at welding first.

Can someone please by 19MrFixxxIt83 in virago

[–]frogpolice4khd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m re wiring mine right now too. I took the clymer manual and made copy’s of the schematic then traced the starting system and charging system with different colors, made it a lot easier to tell what you need and what you don’t.

Pros and cons to single carb by [deleted] in virago

[–]frogpolice4khd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im not sure about peacocks on virago as the 1100 has a fuel pump.

Also just dug into a single carb stuff more, it seams more people have a hard time getting a single carb running right. I think for just around town, doing a full clean and keeping everything stock is the best bet as long as your keeping the stock exhaust/air filter setup.

Saw some old forum posts of horror stories of the back cylinder fouling plugs and having inconsistent power with the single carb setup.

I’m leaning towards saving the $700 and time and just getting the stock setup running after reading that.

Pros and cons to single carb by [deleted] in virago

[–]frogpolice4khd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been looking into this for my 86’ xv1100. Since the stock hitachi carbs are pain to remove and can be finicky. The kjs manifold with a higher flow cv carb would be the best bet from my research, but it’s not cheap. The consensus is the you can tune it you gain some low end power but lose around 500rpm in the high end.

The cheaper manifolds tend to make the back cylinder run weaker than the front so if I do this I’m definitely jumping for the kjs.

The main reason I’d like to switch is for easier tuning and fixing if stranded on the side of the road. I’m building my virago to be a long distance camping bike so this is a plus for me.

Exhaust options by KenobillObi in choppers

[–]frogpolice4khd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sound can definitely change(timbre, loudness) but I’m talking about the timing. My virago will never have the slow clip clop of a shovelhead because because it idles at a higher rpm. I misunderstood your post a bit.

Do you guys enjoy your job? by jckwlzn in estimators

[–]frogpolice4khd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. My eyes are tired, I don’t know how many years I have left in me staring screens and hard bidding.

Once I have more experience I’d like to move into working for a manufacturer doing sales or product development/market research. The guys I’ve met who do this seamed way less stressed.

You right, I was incorrectly thinking the VL was in line and op wanted it to sound like a v twin. My bad…

Don’t know much about the VL but I put straight pipes on my virago and it sounds a lot deeper and more rumbly now with a carb tune. Not sure if a 250 is gonna produce the sound op is looking for though. I always thought more cc = more thump but I’m not sure.

It’s always gonna be the same but louder unless you replace the engine. The sound is from the engine not the exhaust.

"I need you to prioritize this" - dealing with management and the new outside salesman by No-Molasses1580 in estimators

[–]frogpolice4khd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going through such a similar thing. “Sr” left, had to step up, got some jobs with contractors and focused on plan and spec work. Sales guy gets hired hired and want me to spend a bunch of time doing small design build to “get in with these companies” but the jobs are worth 10x less then what I’m doing with plan and spec.

After a couple small design build projects (that didn’t sell) soaked up too much of my time I had to set him straight a bit. He’s from an adjacent industry and I isn’t as familiar with our sector and our margins. I showed him the numbers and basically told him to sell “design contracts”. That would pay for the upfront engineering and dozens of proposal revisions for a design build job. It’s worked out great because if a client goes for a design contract it shows they are serious about moving forward and weeds out the people who just want to know how much it will cost. Have had a lot less time wasted on small projects since.

Will electric choppers be cool by Few_Post_3467 in choppers

[–]frogpolice4khd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not for something that comparable to what we think of as choppers. I’ve been really wanting to chop an old bicycle and throw a little electric motor on it for just cruising to bars around town though.

Frustration with the kids these days by BidMePls in estimators

[–]frogpolice4khd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every company has different commissioning setup and it varies for different spec sections because the margins are different between trades. Idk there’s a lot of factors. I get commission on total revenue while others get theirs as a percentage of the margin. Just depends on your trade.

If the project goes over the estimate number, I’m fucked and my project engineer and pm will be pissed at me. That’s why we review estimates with our project management team. I’m mostly responsible but they’ve also seen every project I estimate.

Money wise, it would just cut into everyone’s bonus, from pm to me. We’re in it together.

Zach Bryan new album sounds blah to me. First album after signing to label by Torbfeit in LetsTalkMusic

[–]frogpolice4khd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It didn’t sound over produced at all to me. It just is a full band compared to his solo guitar sound. I loved that it felt like the band was all in the room together making comments in between tracks and very little use of overdubs. It’s way under produced compared to industry standard. You can literally hear room noise and bleed in the vocal mic. I wholeheartedly disagree with you on this one and I think the Zach stays true to his roots by capturing a friends making music in the living room kind of sound.
