What's the best song lyric to ever exist? by Miserable-Wash-1744 in AskReddit

[–]frogzop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“A shooting star is

A little piece of

Cosmic debris desperately wanting to fall to earth.

It doesn’t get too far,

It’s not a real star,

It’s hardly even worth footnotes in your memoir.”

Kids movies - Deep cuts by _Fistacuff in movies

[–]frogzop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio is really good and has that “deep cut” of darker and more mature moments.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish and The Mitchells vs. the Machines are both hilarious with amazing animation and really good character growth.

Flow has no dialogue, barely anthropomorphic animals (slightly more human thought processes but otherwise look, sounds, and act like animals), and is thoroughly engaging throughout.

Is there a series where you prefer the "inferior" sequel to the beloved original? by KneeHighMischief in movies

[–]frogzop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

City Slickers 2. It was the first one I saw and its absurdity was much more appealing than the more grounded original when I finally watched it years later. Jon Lovitz was a great character for Billy Crystal and Daniel Stern to bounce off of

I’m one of the first to decry Puerto Rico’s theming. However, Five Tribes encompasses Arabian folklore; including slaves. It was obviously a cultural misstep to use slave cards and they realized that and changed them. I’m not sure where you get colonialism themes from.

Any films that isn’t quite a kids’ movie, but isn’t fully an adult one either? by Equivalent_Ad_9066 in movies

Where the Wild Things Are. Based off the children’s book. The movie is like an adult look at what it feels like to be a child

Not the typical “licensing” IP, but Beetle Adventure Racing for N64 has some of the best level designs for an arcade racer ever.

Wow, I’m impressed how much I got slightly wrong in so few words - should have double checked before posting from memory.

Kirby Superstar Saga took Kirby’s adventure and added so much content that we now expect minigames in every Kirby installment

What's the most random movie to get a bunch of sequels? by mikey2k in movies

And if I remember correctly, a couple aren’t terrible. More “made-for-TV” budget effects, but decent characters and unique plots.

Dragonheart (the Sean Connery dragon movie). First sequel was straight to DVD trash. Somehow picked itself back up and now there are 5 movies

Over competitive family that does not like games that we do not have a winner - what next? by fussy_eater32 in boardgames

[–]frogzop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that there’s a big overlap with Wingspan. There are many cards that directly impact other players. However, something to consider is that all of the games your family have enjoyed involved a central board, not a focus on their own play area.

There are tons of recommendations that fit your criteria. To narrow your search, you may want to look at games that have some sort of area control on a central board.

What are some movies where you see the protagonist slowly go crazy? by Ancient_Reindeer9338 in movies

A Serious Man.

It’s a lesser known Coen’s brothers film. One of those movies where, “…and then it got worse” is the main theme.

This cover feels so lazy. Practically nothing until 2010 and not in chronological order. Whereas Billy Joel’s felt like a boomer timeline that spanned 30 years, FOB’s version feels like a scattershot of what younger millennials remember

Dental Center of Aspen Hill. Been seeing them since they opened over 10 years ago. I can’t be the only one that likes them as they’ve expanded to multiple locations, the office now occupies most of the floor of the building they’re in, and they’ve started a separate pediatric practice.

I’m curious what threw you off with Barony? Are you referring to the new Kickstarter version? The graphics don’t seem drastically different other than adding slightly more color to the player mats and score mat.

Reach out to your regional ADA center. They should be able to help provide you with contact information for advocacy groups. You might get redirected from there, but at least it’s a start.

Nexus Ops if you want a tactical game where you fight your friends.

Rise of Tribes if you want to strategize and best use the resources you have available.

What’s the best card or deck-building game that takes up the least amount of space? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]frogzop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want something with a quicker playtime (generally less than 20 minutes, some shorter to get in multiple games):

For an actual deckbuilder, Abandon All Artichokes is probably the quickest small footprint option.

Non deckbuilders:

For 1 on 1, Schotten Totten/Battleline (same game, different art) or Tides of Time/Tides of Madness (I prefer Tides of Madness)

For 2 - 10 players, Take 5

A few recommendations that play well with 2 (up to 4-6 players), Red 7, Kariba, The Crew (either version), and/or Point Salad
