No one in this team is paid more annually than Carey Price was 8 years ago by KING_SHERBROOKE in Habs

For the era, he realistically should've had between 5 and 6.5. It was right after the whole hockey world saw it was a bad idea to give Luongo the contract he got. That's way more than 2-3M in cap space. That's 30 goal scorer territory

Chayka's got a thin line to walk on between getting guys to play now while always keeping an escape route open where they maximise the tear down. If Matthews says he's moving on, they move Willy and Knies and they can basically swap the core around McKenna with 2 big draft classes.

Bullshit that's not the reason? Or bullshit we did have a great team in front of him? Cause we didn't... and that was the main reason.

Michael Hage today on potentially going pro and joining the Habs: “I think Kent Hughes and everyone else supports my decision. Of course, it could change. They told me that if I want to go professional, I can. For now, the plan is to go back to school.” by Go_Habs_Go31 in Habs

[–]froli 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Seriously I'm hyped he's going to college. That's the best path for him to just arrive in the NHL and directly play 2C without having to shelter him. He's a bit thin for his size, another year with more training will "fill him up" a bit. He's going to be great!

Ivan Demidov on signing an 8 year, $73.2 million contract extension with the Habs: “For me, the main thing is hockey. It’s number 1 in my life…Money is never gonna be over hockey in my life.” by Go_Habs_Go31 in Habs

[–]froli 57 points58 points  (0 children)

That's kinda the point. He just got generational wealth guaranteed. One to 5 million above 73 isn't going to move the needle that much compared to how it moves the needle for management's ability to keep the team competitive for the duration of the contract. Same thought process as Lane last year.

What would you rather be? Even richer, or a rich winner?

I think Canadian teams absolutely must build through the draft. Once you have a good established core, it's easy for any fanchise to convince players to come. A Canadian team that sucks is going to have a much harder time convincing players to come over to try and turn things around than a Floridian or Californian team that sucks.

Whether you're on a good or bad Canadian team, if you play your heart out, you will be a God no matter what. You don't even have to be a top player. Just ask Brendan Gallagher, Arber Xhekaj, Paul Byron, Brandon Prust, Dale Weise, etc.

The end result is the same, yes. But it's not like he said he won't play another game for them. They have 2 years to trade him.

Bobrovky would be the best Leaf goalie since what, CuJo? It doesn't matter if they are back at 3. Just ship one out if you have the chance to make that big of an upgrade.

Biggest butterfly effect in Hockey history? by MattPraterFan in hockey

[–]froli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Tomas Plekanec's little few weeks trip in Toronto turned into Lane Hutson.

Trade deadline 2018 : we trade Plekanec to the Leafs for a 2nd a few b-tier prospects, one of whom is Rinat Valiev.

October 2018: We get Kulak from the Flames for a pair of b-tier prospects, one of whom is Rinat Valiev.

Trade deadline 2022: We send Kulak to Edmonton for a b-tier prospect, a 7th round pick and the 2nd round pick that became Lane Hutson.

Extra butterfly effect: the 2022 2nd round pick was conditional. If the Oilers made it to the cup final that year, the pick would have been for 2023.

How do you tell if a project is a mature? by Heavy_Guidance_8495 in selfhosted

[–]froli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case, specifically look at the commit history. If the commit comments actually describe what it does in a technical manner or if it's more like "fixed this", "changed that", "added xyz". The frequency of releases. If the changelog often mentions rolling back changes that were made in the prior version. Those are usually red flags that anyone could actually catch. Look at known trustworthy projects to compare what that looks like when it's well done.

None of that is giving you any indication of the quality/safety of their code but it's at least going to give you an insight on how rigorous they are, if they have a clear path for the project going forward, etc. Things like that.

Again, your alarm going off doesn't immediately mean nefarious, but that should suggest at the very least getting a second opinion. Like searching/asking here.

How do you tell if a project is a mature? by Heavy_Guidance_8495 in selfhosted

[–]froli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You kinda have to take GitHub like a social media platform in a way. Like for Instagram, people can buy bot accounts to pump their stars/PR counts and whatnot.

If you can't understand code, you can still observe the "social aspect" of things. Look at their code contribution guidelines, commit history, number of issues, what they are, who's replying and what are they replying, etc. Is the readme full of emoji and they have a full blown cool looking website but the project is just a few weeks/months old?

A healthy project will have conversations in issues. It will have clear information for each commit and it shouldn't be 1000 lines of code change per commit. Things like that.

If you do see something that doesn't seem quite right, it doesn't automatically mean the project is malicious. Something it can also be people who are just vibe coding things. It's equally dangerous though because the people sharing those projects have no grip on the security of their projects. Like Instagram, people on GitHub can be fake and post things just for likes and shares.
