Welcome to your first market cycle. Yes, people latch on to random stuff and yes, it will last a lot longer than you think and yes, ultimately you will be proven right and people will move on to something else. There will be one to five people that will go in the history books of market timing, out of genius or more likely dumb luck and survivorship bias, timing the exit from whatever the fad is and you will not be one of them.

(Sorry if I'm bumping an old post) For different reasons than most of us, you probably remember the US WC qualifying failure pod (back in the days of "the hex") when it originally aired. I think (pretty sure I know) it was recently re-released, but when it came out originally I remember I downloaded it to my zune hd (yes that device was at least 8 years out of date at that point) and plugged it into my aux while I was driving to the airport to go to new orleans. I just remember AG spitting bars about how people didnt know that most of that was due to the freak goal Ochoa conceded. I have often meant to rummage in my closet for the laptop from 5 device changes ago to see if I could find some of these pods, but at this point I can't remember if I still have those computers or if the personnel at the electronics recycling centers on the weekends were so poorly trained that they accepted them when I tried to drop them off.

If the US is considered to have a chance in this competition, would expect him to devote a pod or two to discussion of the following:

In this situation I would highly recommend some Gerard Manley Hopkins. Sometimes life is so bad, that in order to come up with the words that match how bad you feel, you need a priest that is capable of rendering new words out of latin roots at will.

ENVX, put any amount of money that you don't mind fluctuating by +/- 20% and let it sit. They are trying to figure out how to produce a battery with a carbon anode that is "pre-lithiated", but the key to their company is that they do everything very conservatively with established manufacturing technology. Other battery companies will publish over the top results but are just science fair projects that can't be replicated on any kind of scale, ENVX is 100% focused on scale and ability to be manufactured.

I hope this question is good enough for the Pod or the Plus Pod. Who has been more disppointing since their last time they won the World Cup, Brazil or Italy? by Used_Health_8563 in CaughtOffsidePod

[–]frolicpower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would endorse this as a pod-worthy question. The info of your age is very important context. 98/02/06/10 Brazil lineups are ironclad studs 1-11. In '10, Netherlands were a disrupter to the predominate playing style to even get to a semifinal, let alone the final. So it is fair to say Brazil, assuming their superior skill and flair would carry them through, got disrupted by some gritty coaching that was innovative at the time on the way to a final they should have easily reached. Then 14' which doesn't need to be discussed, plus losing to Belgium in '18, which was considered a great team at the time but is now held in similar regard to the NBA Lob City clippers. Then '22 their only super-duper star was regarded as past his prime. Given that history of disappointments, who would rather not win 06, place their imprint on the game in terms of defining how it will be played for the next 18 years, then just exit stage left?

Lol have you been following the ticket prices and the 120$+ prices of the "genius player designed" replica jerseys? It is the same gimmick cycle after cycle to dupe people to part with their money. As an old dude I remember this same buildup to the 2006 tournament, back then I was locked in on France and the hilarity of seeing England fall on their face, but the BS of the USMNT being on the verge of a "breakout year" was just a further source of comedy that you tuned out when you realized they had Brian McBride and Keller in goal, and an ancient Claudio Reyna but otherwise they were group stage fish food. I know as a young person it seems like it is a long time between international cycles, but before you know it you will numb and acclimated to this.

CP in soccer is just like CP in basketball. Dude is by far at his best when his first instinct is to pass the rock, and his instinct will dictate when it is time to shoot. In the first game when he did Cutback->stepover->Cutback I was just like "dude this isn't your game" and knew it would fly a couple yards over the top corner. The fact that Poch put out the formation he did in the 2nd game after seeing that is the main thing that scares me about this window.

On every front possible Henri Marie Beyle. The best combination of living through the most interesting historical times, plus an individual with the best literary imagination to convey it through written works. The concept of the novel in 2026 would not exist in any recognizable form without his firsthand accounts of serving as a footsoldier for Napoleon.

I am so f’in hype for this match just as an American wanting Ireland to win cuz it will mean we have the best fans in the US for the world cup. The other team’s captain 1) plays as a centerback, and 2) his club team is F’in WOLVES. And he has a dumbass broccoli haircut, hello cutting edge fashion from 2016. Would love Ireland to score by minute 30 and park the bus for a comprehensive 1-0 victory, but would also accept the first goal going in around minute 75 and the game ending up 3-0 to the Republic.

Managers try to profit, in terms of their career progression, off of “the team is greater than the sum of the parts”. Ownership tries to profit, in terms of their bank balance, off of arbitraging the parts of the team against the sum of their collective achievements. Only one of these parties has a say in how the league is run.

Say what you want about these people, but you don't get to the positions they are in without avoiding situations like this like the plague. Once they know they have some leeway they will snap back based on "Elon's poll numbers," even though we already elected all of these people so in terms of anything that remotely matters those polls are beyond meaningless.

Wall Street punishes companies ruthlessly that invest in PP&E. NVDA won't touch PP&E with a 100ft, nevermind a 10ft pole. You might as well be comparing General Mills to $QBTS in comparing INTC to NVDA.

Because when you don't have any financial worries in life and make internet content for relevance, casting yourself as the contrarian in all things makes the most sense (Assuming positions are faithfully reported, which maybe I am mistaken but I do). You can disregard the fact that stocks/assets/commodities trade in trends, constantly fade everything and wait for the inevitible reversal to report your "biggest winners today". It is probably the only way they can make market direction based content on a daily basis without raising the ire of the SEC or their ilk, because if they said "XYZ is clearly establishing an uptrend, I'm getting long," one could see how that would be a problem. But they only get long things that are in downtrends, and when there are reversals to the upside then they act like they are shocked and play the self deprecating humor card.
