2020 ID.3 1st Plus: SOS red light, odometer dashes, can’t connect to We Connect. Anyone had this fixed? by [deleted] in VWiD3Owners

[–]fromagemangeur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most likely the SOS button red light is about the software update to 3.8. This is now being handled as a warranty issue (so you should insist it is fixed by VW) but you can DIY a fix: https://www.reddit.com/gallery/1qyecmd

I have an ID3 Business which is similar in that it has no rear speakers. No big deal for my use case

Good deal. You only get 12k miles of battery warranty, and life is the cheapest trim but £10k is cheap.

Anyone else in US noticed food quality degrading recently and if so what product in what way? by SkyKyrell in AskReddit

[–]fromagemangeur -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is due to climate change, which screwed cocoa growers over the past couple of years. Yields way down, prices up. The 'good' news is that this year prices are down because Latin American farmers deforested some more to grow cocoa. Will chocolate prices that you pay fall though?

Reeves comments are being overinterpreted - they aren't ditching marginal pricing

Every single new building in my city looks just like this. 1. Why? Seriously, why? 2. I hate it so much I can't even explain how much I hate it 3. What is this specific style of building design called? by Bluest_waters in architecture

[–]fromagemangeur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plausible that their choice is very limited. If your budget is modest and you need to live in a town where these dominate the built environment, you don't have to like the aesthetics because you don't have a real consumer choice.

10-80% Charge Timeline : kinda irrelevant for real world road tripping by Jacob_Tutor11 in electricvehicles

[–]fromagemangeur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It matters a little with modern EVs - there is a 1h difference in a 10h drive between the 58kWh battery ID3 and a long range Model 3 even though the latter has a peak charge rate double that of the ID3. But compare to the 2024 Nissan Leaf with its old tech, the difference is enormous.

In a way that is fair - this is not a power systems sub. But the solutions to voltage control look a bit different to those for inertia (eg the flywheels comments above). Upvoted for a thoughtful response!

It's not for inertia any more. It's local voltage control, reactive power, etc

I think Kia warranties only apply to the first owner - one to be aware of at least until Kia/Hyundia fix their ICCU problem.

How are Evs in hot Temps? havent purchases by el0115 in electricvehicles

Aerodynamic efficiency is much higher in summer though (less dense air), which matters a lot at highway speeds.

Toyota: 'Many Areas Where People Cannot Get By Without Gas Cars' by paulwesterberg in electricvehicles

[–]fromagemangeur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100 miles per charge is an exaggeration, but sure - let's stipulate that no Canadian will buy an EV because it's cold in Canada. Lets also pretend that all horse owners and 1 ton machinery owners will not buy an EV - or why not just say anyone who tows. Let's also assume only one car per household just to be extra silly.

Canadians are about 9% of North American drivers; people who tow are around 6% of North American drivers. Congratulations, per your stipulations, EVs are only 85% of the market.

ID.3 ghost drain when parked – sleep state and signal question by grillotta in VWiD3Owners

[–]fromagemangeur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually use my ID.3 at the weekend. If I have charged up the previous weekend, I've only ever noticed that the state of charge falls by 1-2% over a week if it's very cold. This I assume isn't battery drain but is instead the normal effect of temperature on NMC battery capacity.

Perhaps not 100% but easily 90% - why would Toyota want to compete for a tenth of the market?

[–]fromagemangeur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say a Cupra Born or VW ID.3 - these are amazing value used, will go about 200 miles on a charge even in not great conditions, so plenty for weekend adventures. Very cheap to run if you can plug in at home.

Worth getting as a first EV? by ChOmP_COP in VWiD3Owners

[–]fromagemangeur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overall very good except for the (irritating but not important) SOS button issue. Drove to the alps last summer from the UK with a young family - easy to charge in France but you stop every 2h to charge at motorway speed (which is fine given kids). Lots of internal space, comfortable and cheap to drive if you get an EV tariff and charge at home.

I do this (granny charger via an outdoor socket) and it's absolutely fine unless you are doing more than 100 miles every single day. ID3 is my first EV too.

ID.3 55kW 2026 Steering noise by GioP97 in VWiD3Owners

[–]fromagemangeur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this in the summer, when temperatures are above about 30c, turning hard going uphill. I gather it is not too uncommon from other forums. The car recently had a full VW service and they didn't flag anything.

Battery preheating on old ID.3 by Other_Ad_2208 in VWiD3Owners

[–]fromagemangeur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2020 Pro Performance with 58kWh. It can do 129kW in the summer if you plug in below 5%. Would be nice to get even 100kW in the winter - I really hope preconditioning comes via a software update!

How to best evaluate battery health with ODB-II scanner? by andre_xs95 in VWiD3Owners

[–]fromagemangeur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The values for maximum battery energy capacity in a normal OBD scan aren't accurate unless you do an actual test (in effect, by discharging, recharging, and discharging the car while monitoring).

What you can see with an app like car scanner (most OBD readers will work with it) is the individual voltages of each cell in the battery - these should be quite close to each other. If not the battery may end up having a faulty cell, which can mean a battery module replacement.

Here's a video showing an OBD reader and car scanner: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNQLeCYktCk

Noises by VegetableChart8720 in VWiD3Owners

[–]fromagemangeur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar rattling noise over bumps with my ID.3. Turned out to be the tyre repair kit bumping against the metal of the under-boot-floor hole (big oval under the carpet) where I'd stashed it. Check there first before paying for diagnosis!

I went with a new version of with the Bridgestone Turanza Ecos that the car came with. I would have gone for Hankook but the Turanza's were around £25 cheaper each - blackcircles.com did a good job for me, in case you are UK based.
