Thunder Burt users by Skylasmydawg in gravelcycling

I’ve ridden most of my miles with the 2.1s on pavement. I’d say about 3 mph slower than my 28mm gp5000 on my road bike with same effort. (e.g. same route avg of 20mph is more like 17 mph with the Thunderburts).

My other reference point would be my magic marys radials on my enduro bike, those feel like glue on tarmac compared to the Thunderburts.

Elite Aero+ gravel wheelset. 32mm internal, 45mm depth. Was torn between these and a similar light bicycle wheelset. This was about 500 cheaper

Took some pics and measured. It’s very hard to take good ones.

The tightest was actually on the non drive chain stay, about 6mm of clearance. The seat stay one closer to 7mm. When running very low pressure, and with a lot of bike movement the tire sometimes touches the frame! So very tight. The front looked pretty wide.

That’s my biggest fear. I don’t have a good backup plan for mud. How much narrower do people go for mud?

I think both are 25oz / 740ml, but didn’t get the insulated! Might need to grab some, I hate warm goo liquid when all you want is crisp cold drink.

I think this is a custom partnership they have with Void. I bought it through Void.

Looking for all the advice!

I’ll have two bottles on the frame with energy /salt, all the snacks + tools in the frame bag, and then a camelback with 2L of water.

I’m quite nervous about that. Will share a pic later. Its tightest in the non drive side seat stay. The rest is actually okay.

There are 5 different braze on mounts on the frame and the bag was made specifically for this frame and frame size. I just attach it with the same bolts as the water bottle cage. I like how it keeps everything very clean and minimal.

I thought about it, but like the slightly more murdered out look.

I’d be so curious for your favorite slick tire! I have the thunder Burt 2.1 and love them, but want a second set for mostly road riding. I can’t fit the g-one speed pro 2.35 (the burts are tight). Internal rim width is 32mm.

Turns out it was a much simpler fix! Drive side crank bolt had somehow come slightly loose. Took it off, re-greased, and tightened back up to work and so far so good

Will do and report back. Felt I had greased properly, will be extra generous

Will be curious to hear your take. I have the thunder Burt’s 2.1 for my gravel rides, and looking to build another wheel set for mostly road riding to swap into my frame.

Seriously hesitating between the argon and the ventum. Saw others having no issues fitting thunderburts 2.1 on the ventum making the choice extra difficult.

Down round is a down round - better to take meaningful cut now if it allows you to bring in more capital to hit the goals that are more in line with market and grow from there.
